    Anyone Heard From Lantigua?

The Yankees were very excited when they acquired this guy (in the Duque trade) and from all I have read, rightly so. Then he had visa problems and was very late getting to spring training. Since then, I haven't heard any news about Delvis Lantigua. Does anyone know what his current status is?

He was taken off the 40 Man roster and put on the restricted list becasue of Visa problems related to an age descrepancy last I heard.

Are the Yankees going to get compensation from the White Sox if Lantigua doesn't pitch for us? What's going on?

    No compensation

Its always buyer beware with Latin players on ages. It is just a balance thing- last year we traded 2B Bernie Castro the SD for OF Kevin Reese. Within a short time of the deal, SD found out that Castro was actually 2 years older than he claimed. SO, now the Yanks get the raw end of a deal.

I think that Lantigua must have very serious issues if he can't get here and he went on the suspended list- the Yanks had a lot of trouble getting Deivi Mendez here last year (he didn't age at all- just problems with proving his age- born at home, birth certificate issued later), but I don't recall Mendez being put on the suspended list.

I really don't think the Yanks are going to expend a lot of effort for an average RHP who might or might not be 23.

    Found this from Yahoo Sports

Yankees minor league right-hander Eddi Lantigua, acquired with Osuna from the White Sox, allowed three hits including two infield singles and struck out three over three scoreless innings in an extended spring training game against Philadelphia in Clearwater, Fla. Lantigua reported late this season because of visa problems.

Looks like he's in Extended Spring Training

At the risk of asking an incredibly stupid quesiton, how did Lantigua's first name go from being Delvis to Eddi?

Something needs to be done about these age descrepancies. This is outright fraud by these dominican players. The only bright spot about this trade is that Osuna has been a solid reliever while duque is out and Colon is horrible so far while eating his way out of Pedro/Hampton/Moose contract status.
    Bring back Ted Lilly!

Mitch Jones drove in four runs and scored the other in a 5-3 win for Double-A Trenton on Tuesday. Jones had a solo homer in the second and cleared the bases to drive in three more runs with a double in the sixth. Delvis Lantigua picked up the win by holding Norwich to two runs in six innings.

    Name change:

Delvis Lantigua, 23, a right-hander acquired from the White Sox in January, defeated New Britain for Trenton Saturday, then had the team announce that he would henceforth be called Eddy Candelario. Director of minor-league development Rob Thomson had no idea why.
