    Joe Kennedy's Near Miss

Or near no-hitter ... of course, it was only vs. the Tigers. The lefty gave up a single on the second pitch he threw, then pitched nine full innings without allowing another base hit.

It was the first one-hitter in the six-year history of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays ...

And here's an interesting stat: "Six teams—the Yankees, Red Sox, Blue Jays, Rockies, Cardinals and Cubs—have more runs this season than Detroit has hits (159)."

Regardless of the team, a no hitter is a great feat. For as horrible as the Tigers are, the odds are against them getting no-hit this season. Only Sandy Koufax no-hit the 1962 Mets. The following season, he no-hit the Giants, who had won the NL pennant the year prior, and in 1964 he no-hit a Phillies squad that won 92 games..
