Eric Almonte.....a problem other teams would love to have...

I'll admit that I haven't watched 1 game this season due to the fact I don't have a home til may 2nd but it sounds and looks (stats) like this kid can really be something! When Jeter comes back what do we do with him? It's almost a shame to send him back down when he obviously can play in the Majors. I have alot of thoughts I am just going to say out loud becuase I'm tired and have to get up early for work so I'll just say them in no coherent way and you make of it what you will:

    1. Damn the yankees must be loving the fact they have a young kid who can step up and play just as good if not better than anyone they can trade for.

    2. Man what a damn showcase for the yanks. He's raising his trade value so if we need a young stud around the trade deadline it proves he's a bonafide prospect.

    3. Can we put this guy at third? What if we did? What's that tell Henson? At this point I am almost ready to write Henson off. Hell with it one more year for Henson if he doesn't come around then he won't ever come around.

    4. Man it looks like the Yanks might be trying to stockpile some young pitching talent knowing full well Clemens, Wells, and maybe Petitte might not be around next year. I like that pickup on the Phillips kid...another indication they are aware of the lack of young pitching studs in the minors. Well at least the ones who can contribute within the next year or so.

I'd like to keep him around as a utility player after this year as Zeile is 38 and Ventura is getting top old to be playing everyday. Henson is finished. These are his stats so far at AAA: .200/.294/.333. Henson makes Brein Taylor look like decent gamble.

No one is dying to have Erick Almonte. He's 25 years old, an average defender, and he hit .235/.282/.412 at AAA last year and earned himself a demotion. It's nice for him to do well while filling in for the franchise, but that's going to be his value. Be happy with what you're getting. If he has enough upside in your mind to help someone, it should be the team he's on right now.

D'Angelo Jimenez was the top SS in the system (outside of Soriano) and he was traded for Jay Witasick. If you're looking for trade chips, Erick isn't it.I'm happy with the team are it is currently constructed, and a team with that payroll shouldn't have any flaws or it reflects poorly on Cashman. They need to stop trading from the farm system, as it has a lot less depth now (due to injuries, lost picks and trades) than there was even two years ago.

I don't think you people understand how annoyed I get when you say these kinds of things....

What's even worse is that I don't think you care.

    Henson

Give the man a chance, no need to rag on him , I still feel he will turn it around.

Henson is getting his chance. But the post has a point...Almonte has proven he can play at the major league level and Henson hasn't proven that he can play at AAA yet. When we turn over the 3B duties in a year or two it just may go to Almonte.
