Hampton says he won't waive his no trade clause because he wants to play for a contender.

He doesn't seem to get that his performance + salary makes him unattractive to any team that has a chance of being a contender.

If I were him I would do it and resurrect my career.

If this goes down this is a great trade for the Rockies. They get rid of Hampton's salary, replace Juan Pierre with Preston Wilson (Wilson will put up nice numbers at Coors) and get a catcher which is something they've been looking for.

If it weren't for Hampton's salary, I'd want him on the Yanks. I don't consider his stats because of where he pitches. They weren't so spectacular is Shea, which is a pitcher's ballpark, but I think Hampton is a better pitcher then he was on the Mets. It will be a good trade for both teams.

I don't understand why Colorado would give so much money to a pitcher, with so many years, and a no-trade clause when they haven't proven they can pitch there. I heard Verducci from SI on the radio yesterday saying Glavine was saying you have to work so much harder to follow through your pitches there that you leave there so much more exhausted -- after just a series...if you pitch there long enough, your mechanics start shifting to overcome the follow through, exhaustion and aches. It might take Hampton a year to get back to the pitcher he was...although I think getting out of there will help him mentally a great deal...

I don't think Hampton will approve that trade -- although the Marlins have a decent young team and the Braves are being dismantled a bit...he should consider it. But he's in the driver's seat...
