Ending the abbreviated season, the Red Sox beat the Cubs, 2-1. The Sox thus win their fourth world championship in seven years. They will go the rest of the century without winning another one.
(The season was shortened due to the war)

The first pitch was thrown out by Strom Thurmond.

Must have War Time. No wonder they had an Armistice!
Cubbies can't beat BoSux or the ChiSox. No wonder they've never won anything since 1908.

I'm not sure if the the great Influenza Pandemic of 1918-1919, which killed more Americans than all who died in both World War One and Two combined, and that had just begun, also influenced MLB to truncate the season. By late October no one went outdoors without a mask on (they didn't help).
According to The Sporting News
"In the aftermath of the United States' entry into World War I in 1917, a U.S. government edict called for the end of major-league baseball's 1918 regular season by Labor Day and the playing of the World Series immediately thereafter. Accordingly, the 1918 Series was a late-summer classic that ran from September 5 through September 11."
