Mike Hamton?????????//

I heard that rumor (Manny for Hampton, something like that) too! Can Boston take any more salary tho??

Its been in the paper here for a couple of days. I think they realize that Darren Oliver and Frank Castillo aren't the answer in the 4 and 5 spots in the rotation. Hampton makes a lot, so can you justify taking on his salary? Depends if you just want to make a run in '02 and then look to dump salary after the season. I also don't know how much the new owners have to spend.
talk talk talk talk
Peter Gammons probably started this rumor, so that he could write some more articles. don't believe the hype, folx.. the new management ain't taking on any more salary this year. Besides.. Hampton has been AWLFUL
it's been rumored for a the last week or so that the rockies are putting everyone on the table and that the sox, yanks and rangers are interested in hampton...
the sox they say would require hampton to restructure his deal, which i'm sure he'd do and void his no trade clasue to escape that pitchers graveyard in coors...
whatever you think of him, and i happen to think he's still got 15 win stuff, he's still better than oliver and castillo... but the thing is he's still gotta hard on about gettin in the batters box... so maybe he'll hold out for an nl team not named the mutts...
the rumor of the sox and hampton doesnt include Manny Ramirez from what I understand.
The original Peter Gammons nonsense proposed that trade which would also include Walker.
But from what I have read The sox might be interested in Hampton but would give up a prospect or two and a veteran (Clark, Daubach, Offerman)
Hampton has a no trade clause, thus he would have to approve any trade.

jpao, Hampton has long been campaining for a trade. I'm sure he'd approve a trade that will send him to a legitimate contender, even if it's an AL team.
DnIoRmTaYh, a prospect of two and one bench player (in addition, Clark and Offerman are grossly overpaid) for Hampton is one lopsided deal. That's like the Yanks can have him for Duqucito and Vander Wal.
I still think 2 solid prospects and a veteran might do it...
Hampton is strugling remember, and there are some who say its not only Coors field. He hasnt been lights out on the road either.
I think the price on Hampton will be steep for any team that wants to trade for him. I think he still has good stuff and could help a contender. It will be interesting to see if he leaves and where he ends up.![]()

His home ERA is about 2 full runs lower than road. Weird, huh? Many seem to think Hampton's just so psyched out by all the failures that he lost his confidence and his bulldog mentality. I tend to agree with that. Even with his ugly numbers with the Rockies, Hampton's a young, healthy, athletic, winning, playoff tested lefty. Unless the Sox is taking on huge sum of his salary, I dunnot if 2 prospects and a veteran would cut it.Originally posted by DnIoRmTaYh

Me neither, unless that are 2 very highly-touted prospects... Don't the Sox have a weak farm system though?Originally posted by Shadowboxer
