    YankeeNets vs. DolanKnicks

I think it is time for Yankee fans who put their allegiance to the Yankees above that toward any other sports franchise to reconsider rooting for the Knicks rather than the Nets. Success for the NETS will benefit the YES network which benefits the Yankees. Success for the NETS benefits the corporation that owns both teams and helps the Yanks sign ball players. Success for the Knicks benefits Charles Dolan, who seems to view his interests to be in conflict with those of the Yankees.

I am a Yankee fan first, second, and third. I love basketball, but I have no particular allegiance to any team, so it is easy for me to say go with the NETS now. But I think every Yankee fan who puts them first, second, and third, as I do, should reevaluate which basketball team they support.

P.S. I suppose the same is true for hockey and the Devils, though I don't follow the sport closely myself.

There is a major problem, if you are telling the people to change loyalties and support Yankees-Nets-Devils, that may never happen. Here, I am a sixer and Flyer fan. AS a Flyer fan, it'll be impossible to switch to being a devil fan. Do I still have loyalty with the Yankees? Give me a HELL YEAH!! Different sports, you just can't tell every single Yankee fan to root for the two other teams. The chances may just be slim to none!

I am not telling you to do anything. I am just saying that supporting the Nets and Devils is supporting the Yankees. I actually have rooted against all New York teams in the past because they all compete indirectly for dollars with the Yankees. Now, I have started to root for the Nets and Devils. But I can't ask everyone to put the Yankees before every other team the way I do. I am just more fanatic than most. And even I put my own family before the Yankees. The Yankees come after my family. I understand how some people root for the Yankees and other teams equally. I just am not one of those people.

    Several points:

1 - Real fans do not change loyalties. A Knick fan like myself remains so, even if they stink. (Remember the 1990 Yankees?)

2 - The Yankees have done quite well with or without "help" from the Nets or Devils, thank you. Their success is not dependant upon their step-siblings in the Meadowlands.

3 - I would truly hope that most of the forumers do not place the Yankees above their family, and the like.

In sum, I remain a Giants, Knicks and Rangers fan, as well as a Yankee fan. The corporate parentage is irrelevant to me.

I agree that it is a sign of a fan(aticism -- the origin of the word) to not change loyalties based on things like W-L records, or moving to a new city, or changes in ownership. And I certainly would not criticize anyone for being a Knick (or Celtic or Red Sox or Met) fan. It is all arbitrary. I am just saying that my fanaticism for the Yankees is so great as to completely overwhelm my connection to any other professional sport team, or perhaps any other affiliation other than my family. That doesn't make me a better person, probably only a crazier one. But I think it does say something about how much of a baseball and Yankee fan I am relative to other sports. Those who value some other team, like the Knicks, equally or almost equally with the Yankees will not feel the same. How much we value something is reflected in how much we are willing to give up other things for it, such as money or other affiliations.
