Mike Cameron and the M's have gone crazy

In the fourth inning, Mike Cameron already has four homeruns in his first four at bats. In the first inning, Bret Boone and Cameron became the first teammates in major league history to both hit two home runs in the same inning, connecting back-to-back twice in Seattle's 10-run first against Chicago. John Rauch started the game for the White Sox, and it only took him 25 pitches to give up eight runs. In the fifth inning, the Mariners are leading 13-2.

I just saw that highlight -- and they said that no one has ever hit 5 in a game...I'm rooting for him to break that record -- I like to see records broken, I always liked Cameron and maybe they'll all be out of their system before they come here tomorrow night!

This may be the spark my fantasy team (1-3) needs. I'd like to see Cameron get his 5th. I followed him somewhat in Cincinnati, and trading him and Tomko for Griffey seems to be the biggest mistake the Reds have made of late (though they've improved this year). He's really picked up where Junior left off over in Seattle.

Cameron took it all the way to the warning track, but finished with "only" 4.
    Great job Mike!

Nice job by Cameron. Wasn't the last guy to get 4 in a game Mark Whiten, when he was a Card?
I wonder if any of the other gys who have hit 4 ended up with only 4 RBI?

What an absolutely unbelieveable and wonderful game for Cameron! It's even more amazing considering last week he was having problems with his contact lenses and his vision. I'd say he definitely must have fixed that problem! It's great anytime there's a new record set and it's an added bonus when someone you never expect to do anything to get them in the record books becomes a part of baseball history.

With all the history I've seen at the Stadium, only 2 (other than Jay Buhner hitting the ambulance on a bounce) Tom Seaver's 300th win and Randy Velarde's unassisted triple play on Shane.

Id rather see Yankee history but seeing baseball history is still cool.

Please, everyone, take a look at the three games Oakland played while we were up in seattle.

Then count the 1+4+2= 7 runs Oakland scored in our entire series.

Bring it on M's.. ju arses isa OURS!

That was an amazing game for Cameron. It's cool when things like this happen as it is such a rarity.

In 1993 ... and the Cards' manager was a fellow name of Torre.

    Here's a quote from the ESPN/AP recap:

    http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=220502104

The Mariners' next game is Friday night at Yankee Stadium. On Thursday night, Cameron's feat was flashed on the scoreboard in New York during the game between Oakland and the Yankees. "Maybe he's tired. The law of averages, he's not going to hit eight in two days," Yankees manager Joe Torre said. Torre was the Cardinals' manager when Whiten hit four homers. "I think there were about 12 people in the stands. You know it's happening."
According to the same story ... the Chicago crowd gave him a standing O after the fourth homer. Would a Yankee Stadium crowd do the same, if it were to happen here?

GREAT game by Cameron, into the Record Books he goes.....

    ....but....

...that was a LOT of work for 4 RBIs.

I'm going to go out on a limb, and predict that he won't hit 4 HRs in a game against the Yankees.

From SportsCenter, I got the following tale of the three 4s:

4th member of the 4-HR club

1st member of the 4-HR club in which all were solo shots

robbed an opposing hitter of 4 by gloving a potential grand salami (which looked like it would've eked over the wall)

Sweet Lou said he'd seen lots in his years and that's probably the highlight of his career. Mike Cameron himself humbly said he wasn't sure what caused it. They showed a clip of Air Jordan (as a Chicago Bull) getting a clutch shot then shrugging his shoulder in a "how'd that happen?" type of way, to illustrate Cameron's humility.

You caught me on the edit. The other parts (solo shot, 4th member of the 4-HR club and robbing a slam) make it even more special, IMO.

Now let's hope he's already sowed his wild-ass oats before Friday gets here. Young rook Lilly's gonna have to hold the fort down.

Hope so. Teams usually score much less after a heavy outburst of runs. (see CLE beating SEA 17-2 then losing the ALDS on a low-scoring game).

They shot 15 runs, our guys got 9. Sori may still have lots left in him so I can only hope the going crazy mess doesn't apply once they hit the skids in da Bronx!!!

    Rocky Colavito, CLE, 06/10/1959

    Pat Seerey, CHW, 07/18/1948

    Henry Louis Gehrig, NYY, 06/03/1932

    This is why baseball

is such a tremendous sport! A fan can never know when something unusual can occur and tonight proved to be one of those nights. I can't imagine how a player can hit 4 homers in one game and then almost hit a fifth on a 3-2 count. Also, two players hitting back to back homers in the same inning twice!!!! It's going to be interesting how the Yankees pitch to Cameron in this series and also the reaction of the fans to him when he comes to the plate the first time.

Sorry to say this, and you probably see it coming... but I was rooting against him. I wasn't happy at all when I heard about the double back-to-back HR's in the 1st or Cameron's 4th HR. Can't stand the Seamen, want to vomit when I hear about something like this. :\ Imagine how you loyal Bahston haters 'd feel if Manny Ramirez hit 4HR's. Or how *any* of you would feel if John Rocker suddenly became a starter and pitched a perfect game in his first outing. 's how I felt. :\

I envision Giambi hitting 5 HR's against the Seamen in game 4 of this year's ALCS, helping to complete a sweep. Of course, my visions rarely come true, so don't hold me to that.
