Anyone Excited For Tonight's Women's Final?

I am really excited to watch tonight, but also pretty nervous. Not as nervous as Yankee ps games by any stretch , but I really want Kwan to get the gold.

I hope she does it, but I think I am so nervous as it bears an uncanny resemblence to 1998 with Cohen being the young skater with a lot of umph and nothing to lose. Is anyone else feeling this way?? Pls tell me I am just looney.

Oh I hope Sascha Cohen pulls the upset!!! That would be so awesome.. I am not a fan of Michelle Kwan.

I'm really nervous too. I'm happy that I'm not the only one! I really want Michelle to win the gold too. I think that she can do it. No I know that she can do it!

Good luck Michelle I'm rooting for you to WIN GOLD!!

Damn, is Baseball EVER going to start?!?! I've watched maybe twenty minutes total of the Olympics. Of course, eighteen minutes were commercials.

I am so nervous. I feel like I'm the one skating! For some reason, I'm doubting Kwan's abilities but I hope she proves me wrong. Go Michelle!

I'm really nervous, too! I thought she got low scores in technical for the short program, but she still managed to pull it off. It should be interesting!

Sarah Hughes just kicked some major ass.

  10. #10
    Hughes was awesome!!

  11. #11
Hughes is guaranteed at least a bronze right now with Kwan and Irina still to skate!! Yeah!!

Sasha had a fall early in her program, but was beautiful after that. It cost her, but I am now praying for Irina to take a tumble or two.

ok let's see if Irina will take the gold from Michelle........ I'm kinda hoping she falls and there's a US sweep

Hughes wins!! I had a bad feeling for Kwan, but I thought it was going to be Cohen not Hughes that took it away from her. I am thrilled for her, but so sad for Michelle.

    for Michelle and for Sarah!!

OMG OMG!!! That was sooo awesome! I am sooo thrilled with the results!!

I'm thrilled for Sarah. They've had her on the news here on LI for years. I'm very happy for her.

Michelle had this happen to her twice. I don't think she'll be around for the next olympics (she's my age.... 21 and most of the skaters there are younger than her).

I feel bad for her, but that fall cost her big time

  20. #20
I did think Sarah was the best, but I thought Michelle was better than Irina. Congrats to Sarah!! She did what she needed to do and deserved to end up on top tonight!!

  21. #21
Dropping your coach before the Olypmics wasn't the greatest idea.

Sarah was amazing tonight. But I thought her marks could have been higher

I'm so happy for Sarah Hughes who definately deserved it, but I'm so sad for Michelle. She worked so hard...I was just glad that if it wasn't Michelle and it had to be an American woman, that it was Sarah and not Sasha. Sarah was very gracious throughout and shined tonight. Michelle not winning has nothing to do with not having her coach; she simply didn't compete well tonite. She was tight this time around (less so than before). She was tight the last time around, too, and she had a coach then. Like she said, the flip was dumb.

The person that deserved to win did... and thats all that matters.
I don't feel sorry for Michelle... she didn't skate a clean program and got the medal she deserved.. had she skated clean and gotten 3rd.. yes I would feel bad for her.

  25. #25
Wow, that was amazing. After they showed Michelle in 1st I said 'ya know, that isn't fair -- Sarah skated better'. I thought they showed Michelle was definitely in first with one skater left. Anyway - I don't get how it happened, but I'm glad it did! Sarah skated the best program tonight and it was great to see her pure joy and her coach's excitement over the gold! When her coach made her look back at the ice to see everything people had thrown it was great, too! CONGRATS SARAH!

  26. #26
Yeah I was ticked when they put Michelle in first too.. but I guess it was a 3 way tie.. so thats why Sarah won.

  27. #27
I am happy for Sarah but feel bad for Michelle. I guess her career will never be truly complete without the gold.

I agree with you. She got what she deserved here. I feel bad only in the respect that she didn't achieve her dream but that's life. It doesn't always work out. Besides she has 4 world championships, 6 US championships, and a slew of other awards.
Michelle is a great skater and champion and no one can take that away from her but Sarah was the best tonight and she deserved every ounce of that gold.

Couldn't've said it better myself, CD.

As an afterthought, though, it just kinda made me feel bad to watch the medal ceremony... there's Sarah all beaming with a grin from ear to ear (sourpussed "Sluts" next to her with the silverhaha) and Michelle with the bronze, mouthing the worlds to the national anthem trying to hold back the tears. I guess that would be strange -- being on the medal platform, hearing YOUR national anthem played, but knowing it isn't being played for you. Weird once, but it's happened to Michelle TWICE in the Olympics!

I'm very happy for Sarah her performance was great. As for Michelle she tried and that was something at least. Michelle has been a great skater and even if she is not remembered for winning the gold medal her accomplishments in skating are still amazing!! I felt very bad for her but Sarah was perfect and deserved the gold! Two medals in two Olympics is not bad either silver and bronze are very respectable. You never know she might come back in 2006 but it is a longshot ( she could try for all three ) . Well great job Sarah and please don't go professional instead try to win another in 2006! I'll be behind you!!

LOL.. we need a new forum called OTHER COMPETITIONS.. figure skating is certainly no sport.. sports are decided on the field, competitions are decided by judges.. but it's great to see such strong interest in the olympics..

I don't think it's a "sport"... but it can be fun to watch.
