Thread: Jumbles

    Jumbles

Letter jumbles, huh? OK. (And no disrespect intended to ctan, a great poster and fan). I KNOW that numbers are certainly fitting, and posts featuring them are welcome on this board.

And I HAVE read the rules and know that the decisions of the moderators and board owners are final, and do not have to be shared with posters. I have the right to take my views elsewhere; you have the right to deny me posting privileges.

But am I allowed the question? A post about an actual ballgame featuring one of last year's players (Robert Perez), looking (in vain) for one of the most beloved of Yanks (Sojo) and about Jorge's signing and nationality DOES NOT belong on the Yankees discussion board? Even the second game I saw, featuring one of the four vying for the backup catcher spot (Castillo), mentioning ex-Yanks and guys traded away and guys many would like traded for (Felix Jose, D'Angelo Jimenez, Vladimir Guerrero) and sharing info on how all can see these games, doesn't belong.

Two questions: Are Spring Training games appropriate discussion subjects in March? Are regular season games talked about in April? Or is it that the actual GAME of baseball has no place on the Yankee DISCUSSION board?

If I've overstepped the line by asking this, I wish you all a great year and the New York Yankees World Series Championship #27.

if you're referring to the post you made about the carribean world series - it was moved to the general baseball discussion forum, because it isn't specifically about the yankees.

(and no, i don't know why the tino thread wasn't moved, since he isn't a yankee anymore)

Knuckles seems to have a problem with how the forums are being moderated. He(she? i dunno) posted something about the carribean world series going on, made a few references to yankees in the thread, and thought that it belonged in Yankees discussion. I read it, and thought it was more appropriate for Around the Majors. We dont' have an Around the Other Countries Of The World forum, so I thought that was the best spot for it. Yankees get mentioned in Around the Majors all the time, but the topics in that forum are either specific to another club, or general enough to be about all of baseball, not just the Yankees. I stand by my judgement that his Carrib. WS thread belongs where it is.

As far as the jumble thread -- I was also shocked to see it there, and I moved it as soon as I saw it. If it had been seen by a moderator sooner, then it would have been dealt with sooner.

Trade rumors do belong in Y/D. I don't know what the Tino references are about..

    Re: Jumbles

Thanks for the clarification Bozidar. But this paragraph still has me scratching my head. Oh well.

I'm a little confused about it too.

Needless to say, he's certainly allowed to post his question, I'd just prefer if he did it here in the Suggestion Box, instead of Yankee Discussion, where it didn't belong

Obviously you both disagree, but I don't understand the confusion frankly, CD and Boz.

The paragraph in question tries to spell out that the discussion of what is going on at the Caribbean World Series DOES have interest to Yankee fans, and to discussions that have taken place (and still do take place) on the Yankees discussion board.

And I'm only answering here where apparently it is allowed, but I think you would find that:

    1. Some fans are ONLY visiting the Yankees Discussion board.

    2. Some of these are diehard enough fans of the sport that they would love to see a game in February, particularly one that includes so many major leaguers with a Yankee connection.

    3. By removing it from the Yankees Discussion board, you are denying them an opportunity.

That, of course, is your choice.

I never said whether I agreed or not but the way the paragraph was worded was confusing to me.

Look.. it was a baseball post. It didn't have anything to do with the Yankee club. I could start a thread on how itchy my toes are while I was playing baseball, and say that Jorge Posada might have itchy toes too, because like most of us, he has toes, and thus has the spot between them that can get itchy. I could even say how if Jorge were playing baseball with me at the time, he might have been more inclined to have itchy toes too, cuz who knows if i have athlete's foot and it's spreading? That doesn't make it about the Yankees

Look.. it belonged in Around the Majors, IMO. Luvtino (another moderator) didn't see any reason to move it back to Yankee Discussion, or ask around about why it was moved. Obviously it seemed ok to her too.

If you're bothered that you didn't get as much exposure as you would have in Yankee Discussion.. then i'm sorry. Life goes on. But the rules are the rules, and I was doing my job -- enforcing them. If folx want to just read Yankee Discussion, they're welcome to do so, but the other forums get plenty of readers too. And i'm guessing that the "diehard"ers read Around the Majors, or already new about the game, so pardon me if i don't feel particularly guilty for "denying" anyone anything.

And I'm only answering here where apparently it is allowed
Look, we're not Nazi's here. We have forums, and they have rules. The content of one's post, and threads, decides where a post belongs. I didn't move this thread so that fewer people would read it -- I moved it here because "The Suggestion Box" is where complaints are welcome at bronx-bombers.com. Welcome, and if you have one, they're encouraged. So yes, this is where you're allowed to register complaints, or make suggestions about the site. For the record, if you go to the main forums page, and read it.. you'll find little descriptions about what goes in each forum. Thanks.

OK. I'm sorry, CD, for characterizing your reply as disagreement, when it was only confusion. I trust that is cleared up now?

And Boz, should I post about a Spring Taining B squad game where none of the players will actually be in New York (though they're all in Yankee unis) and put it on the Yankee board, you will decide whether to move that too, I assume?

It depends. Maybe Jim'll open up a temporary Spring Training forum. I'll let him chime in and say.

If ya put a gun to my head, i'd prolly put it in around the minors. Sometimes, though, you get guys on the B Squad that're trying out for the Major's club.. so if that was the discussion (and not just a discussion on the guys that wil obviously be in the minors), then it'd fit right in for Yankees Discussion.

Wow, I can't believe that there is this much discussion over a moved thread. Especially since this forum is notorious for keeping un-related posts out of un-related forums. That's one of the main reasons that "die hard" fans come to read this board - because they can look in a forum and know exactly what will be in that forum without spending time sorting through nonsense and unrelated threads.

I guess I just don't understand why anyone would feel this way about having a thread moved. I mean, it's not like it's anything personal - it's just the way we do things. If had gotten closed, or deleted, I could see feeling this way. But because a post was moved?

Having not read the threads in question yet, and going by what I've seen in this thread, I agree with the decisions of the moderators and stand by them 100%. They are only doing what I've asked them to do, and they do a pretty damn good job of it, too, I might add.

I welcome criticism of forum policy, and always consider every suggestion that is made. I am more than happy to discuss this policy and your suggestions in this forum, or via email or PM. But the policy that you're questioning is one of the fundamental standards of this community, and has little chance of being changed, and will only be enforced more diligently as the season gets underway.

Moving a thread or not, it's still open for discussion on the site, and that is what matters, not what forum it ends up being in.

There are plenty of sites out there that you can post whatever kind of thread you'd like in whatever forum that you'd like, but I don't think you'd be too happy at one that doesn't enforce a similar rule. That's your call, though.
