Completely blowing my predictions about this series out of the water, the Oakland A's swept the M's right out of California with a 7-4 win. Mulder was strong, giving up 1 run on 6 hits in 7 to earn his 20th win. "Cy Young"Garcia got rocked for 5 runs, capped by a 3-run shot by Dye to get things started in the 1st.
Big Lou had his strongest lineup out there minus Olerud, who pinch hit late. They've already clinched the west, yet Lou just keeps on throwing his big guys out there. You'd think he has something to prove, wouldn't you? Well... whatever it is, the effort is futile as those big starters aren't getting squat done. When the M's rack up loss number 49 (oops, did I just say that? Sorry Lou... we all know you're not a competitive man) he'll go ahead and bench his starters, but it will be too late. They'll all be drained for round 1 of the playoffs... if we don't get them, hopefully the Tribe will keep'em alive, yet drained, for us in round 2.
The M's are now 106-44. They must win 8 of 12 simply to tie our '98 record with many games upcoming against Texas and Oakland. Looks like Seattlites (and anyone outside WA who thought it would be safe to jump on an M's bandwagon this year) will have to brace themselves for *two* major disappointments this October.
