He's on schedule to return Sunday the 26th. I have no idea who the Red Sox are facing that day though. The last I heard is that he threw a simulated game of 75 pitches with no reported problems.

Sunday sounds good to me. With 5 days rest (the normal 4 + 1 to protect him), he will go again on 9/1 vs the Yankees at Fenway with me in attendance. Yippee!!!!

First time going to Fenway AND seeing Pedro pitch should be very interesting! I just hope we get to see a few Yankee wins!

I HOPE ALL THE MISGUIDED CONE-LOVERS ON THIS FORUM ARE SATISFIED. Benedict has almost single-handedly kept the BlowSox in the race.

Cone leads Red Sox over Angels; Pedro on the way.
In the midst of a crucial 10-game road trip, Red Sox pitchers are stepping up. David Cone allows two runs in seven innings in Boston's 8-5 win over Anaheim . And the news only gets better -- Pedro Martinez (pictured) pitches a five-inning simulated game Tuesday and is cleared to start Sunday in Texas. Meanwhile, the latest addition to the Yankees' rotation doesn't fare well -- Orlando Hernandez is shelled by the Rangers in New York's 13-3 loss.
Between Cone and Manny, the Sox were kept in the race. Cone seems to be the unsung hero, since he seems to have kept himself out of the Jim/Duke fiasco but gives them steady W's when he starts.
If the Yanks had a Cone doing just what he does and a healthy El Duque doing what he *USED* to do, we'd be unstoppable, given that our guys could jack a few in the seats on command.
Pedro says he doesn't want any minor league work. Cone went into the minors and I think it would help him in the long run, but hey, Pedro said he'd fought hard to stay out of the minors. Hope for NYY's sake that Pedro was wrong.

Get up ... get up ...; Black Moses (he ain't no chef); Isn't she Lovely? (Aisha); Fear the 'Fro; A slow roller to 1st ...
The race just got verrrry interesting.
A wounded ace returns, and an old foe keeps the greatest enemy of his old team alive.
All will meet in September.
Oh yeah, are you ready to rumble?
I say Cone is due to get his ass kicked HARD-by us. That will be justice, and his KARMA is DUE TO HIM.
Never will Babe let him sleep again, remember what happened to Pedro..

Not sure Jim, my friend arranged the tickets and I know we are sitting in the right field area (I think) for either that game or Sunday's, we also have rooftop box seats, I just don't know which of the days we sit where.Originally posted by Winger03

I believe that 2001 will mark the beginning of the end of Pedro's career. He may be dominant again for periods of time or individual games, but what he suffers from is a serious condition (frayed rotator cuff)....that I don't think there is equivalent TJ surgery to correct......the fact that his brother Ramon (who had a much larger body with which to absorb the punishment of the extreme whipping action that both Pedro and Ramon subjected their arms to), began to break down about the same age, and never was able to recover for more than a limited time makes me believe that Pedro's career may follow a similar path.......I think Pedro is looking for one more multiple year contract to set himself up for retirement.....
All just an opinion, of course.
I agree and I've said it all along, in his quest to be the best (and remain the best in MLB) it will lead him to an early retirement.Originally posted by husk

Pedro could prolong his career if he switches to throwing from the base and not from his arms, which is where all that damage is going to occur. As far as I know, he doesn't do any weight training or anything that strengthens his body, he just pitches and throws hard using his arms.
He's a creepy little mofo, that's for sure.
