    Andruw Jones' Contract

Can anyone tell me the details of Andruw's contract as far as when he will be a free agent?

He's an FA at the end of this season, which makes my mouth water. He's coming off a down year, which might mean he may not be quite as costly as anticipated, although he IS a Boras client.
"He knew, as he went after that ball, that he had a decision to make," said Tony Clark, who watched the play unfold from first base. "Either you let the ball drop and try to minimize the damage, or you make the catch and pay the consequences. He knew that, no doubt about it, and he chose B."

He'll demand as much as he would have if he were a free agent before this year. This year hasn't helped him, but it won't hurt him either.

However, I can't see how the Braves expect to contend if they let go of Jones.

I don't see how the Braves could let him go. He's only had one bad year and the rest were pretty good. He's a young player who's an offensive threat on a team that needs more youth. I think they'll give him just about as much $$$ as he wants.

    ahh.. but it's Scott Boras.
Maybe the Braves will take a play outt of the Mariner's play book.. save the huge bucks and spend it more efficiently! It depends on the asking price.. Braves got bucks, but the ownership isn't just Turner anymore. The purse strings seem to be a lot tighter than they were.

I could see the Braves not signing him. They don't have the money that they once did. AOL has stripped them of much of their spending abilities. Could you imaging him in Pinstripes and in center field? 4thatg would be amazing!!!!!

I'd love to have him on the Yanks. I don't think he'll leave Atlanta though. But, the Gold Club has closed, so maybe . . . I'm not a big fan of his tude though, he seems to hot dog it alot - might not fit in here.

There is definitely more of a spot for him on the Yanks then there is for Giambi when you think about it. He have Johnson and hopefully Tino next year, and with Paulie probably gone, theres a nice opening. He could take over centerfield when Bernie was off a day, and in a few years once Bernie got a little slower. Imagine and outfield with Williams and Jones, no balls would hit the ground! Its probably all wishful thinking though

Supposedly the Braves aren't as willing to loosen the purse strings now because Turner is gone.

    Remember it's AOL now.

Personally i think andrew jones is overrated, his defense is spectacular and people forget what an average offensive player he is for an outfielder. Id take bernie williams any day of the week over him. Andrew jones ops compared to bernie williams the last 3 years is absolutely pathetic for an outfielder. His ops the last 3 years not including this year is .798 compared to bernie williams .975. Even the Yankees number 2 hitter has a higher ops then andrew jones this year, and has an ops of .918 the last 3 years compared to jones .798, and Jeter's a short stop.

Andrew jones barely scores 100 runs a year also, but he has good pop in the bat. Andrew jones great player? certainly not, very good though, but a little overrated.

He's still very young though, Bernie didn't really blossom for a few years. I'm not gonna try to say whose better or who will be better, but I think Jones will be great as opposed to very good in a couple of years.

bingo!!!! as i was reading through the posts, i was surprised how much people wanted jones.. this guy is one of the most overated players in the game if you ask me.. every year they talk about how this will be his breakout season.. well, it never happens.. he is a good player to be sure.. but he is no star.. and he won't be worth the ridiculous contract boras will command for him..

As much as I love Andruw he should remain a Brave. He only looks good in a Brave uniform (and is destined to be with them, along with Chipper and Maddux) and if I were him I would stay with the Braves because they are such a consistant and winning team. They're like the Yankees of the National League. Literally.

We've already got platoons out there. Andruw Jones plays CF. Should he play RF? If his fielding isn't as good as Paulie's, we could have Justice or Shane DH for us.

Tough as it is and as spoiled rotten as we are (oh, I love to say that), trading to improve on a position only forces us to remember where this guy plays. We're strong and deep at so many positions, any trade seems weird.

Of course, if Tino can play RF, and Giambi can play 1B........

I don't think he'd be a good fit, and one reason for that is his sleazy off field shenanigans we've read about.

He's the second best centerfielder in the major leagues, behind only Torii Hunter. The only move that would make sense is putting Bernie Williams in left field. That would turn Bernie - an above average centerfielder - into an outstanding left fielder, and keep Andruw Jones where he's comfortable being a defensive superstar.

First off, Andruw does NOT look good in a Yankee uniform. He was meant to be a Brave. And second, Bernie is keepin' his centerfield job.

I doubt the Yankees will sign Jones; few people have even considered the possibility of him leaving the Braves. I don't particuarly want him, either, not for the money he'll command. But if he was here, it would be silly to continue playing Bernie in center. It was like the talk that if the Yankees signed A-Rod, they would move him to third, although almost all evidence suggests he's a better shortstop (defensively) than Jeter.

Even if you disagree with that example, Andruw Jones is like an Ozzie Smith or a Bill Mazeroski of centerfield. No knock on Bernie, he's a much better all-around player than Andruw. He's just not as good as Jones defensively.
