    Impact of Williams departure????

Personaly I think Duquette is an overpaid fool. I don't know what his paycheck is but assuming that he makes at least minimum wage he is overpaid.

The Sox are probably not going to the post season without purchasing tickets. What is Duquette's excuse going to be then???

I think Williams firing will have zer impact.

The owners are hoping for a surge in performance to help them get a better price for the sox. I hope someone as completely stupid as old man Yawkey buys the team.

Look, the Sox are still in the Wild Card and Pennant race because of ol' Jimmy boy. He kept the cracks from totally killing the team. He WAS a good manager, he just got hit harder occasionally than most managers do.
Karrigan I believe may not be able to hold the cracks together. Sure, Rat Boy may be happier, but can he keep the team from sinking too far now?

But if Kerrigan is now worried about managing, how does it affect the pitching staff?

Wonder if Duqette is going to the Old George Steinbrenner School of Baseball.

The one George has left behind and passed on to Angelos!

    Doesn't matter. They are cursed!
I honestly don't see how firing the man who has held a team riddled with injury together and has played tough can help them. Especially now when the race for the pennant begins.
Thank God GS doesn't panic and run around firing managers!

    Little for the worse..

I think it was have a small bad impact on the team. While many of the players, the selfish ones mostly, will be glad to have it settled in their mind that they'll be starting in the lineup that day... other guys on that team that had a lot of respect for Williams will be effected negatively. Also, guys in the pen and on the rotation used to having Kerrigan full time will now not have him. Kerrigan is a huge reason the Boston pitching staff has been so good the last few years (it ain't just Pedro folx, they've had a good staff), and now he's not going to be focused there as much.
I think it will effect them for the worse.. but it's got to potential to REALL bite them in the ass. Keep it up Duquette.. you're doing just fine.

I think Williams got a bum rap, but sometimes change for the sake of change does have the effect of re-energizing a team. So, I guess it could work form them in a twisted sort of way.

But I cannot imagine this being good for the team once in the postseason. Do you really believe that Kerrigan could outmanage Pineilla, or Joe, or any of those veteran managers in the playoffs?
"He knew, as he went after that ball, that he had a decision to make," said Tony Clark, who watched the play unfold from first base. "Either you let the ball drop and try to minimize the damage, or you make the catch and pay the consequences. He knew that, no doubt about it, and he chose B."

Duquette is the living embodiment of The Curse.

maybe it's me, and my tendency to judge a book by it's cover, but, at the press conference Duquette (sp?) looked like the kid who got caught sneaking cigarettes into the dorms at prep school and was trying to deny any involvement

I think it's a double-barrel negative effect~ the removal of Kerrigan's positive impact on the pitching staff, combined w/ the removal of Williams' good managing of the cursed team. The sum of these will be greater than the parts.

He made them good even when 2/3rds of their payroll was on the DL. I don't think anyone else (esp Kerrigan) will be able to work that kind of magic.

I don't know why they fired him. He did a great job keeping Boston in the race without Pedro,Nomar,Everat, and Varatec. It's amazing that they were that dumb to fire him and he is still in the race for manager of the year as far as I'm concerned.

Jimy was the glue that kept the team together and on the same page.
Scapegoat 101. And to think he was in line for Manager of the Year. Would have got my vote...

I don't know if this means anything, but right after Boston named its pitching coach as manager, Red Sox pitchers gave up 25 runs to the Orioles -- not exactly an offensive powerhouse -- in their weekend series.
