RIP to the 343 members of the FDNY, by far, the most ever lost on a single day. Firefighters and other emergency workers were using all of the bridges and tunnels that day.

    Re: 9-11

I don't have an interesting story but I guess I'll share it anyway since I don't do it often.

I was in 8th grade. My principal announced that a plane hit one of the towers on the announce system. We were on the 6th floor from my HS in Queens and we could see the towers with black smoke coming out from a distance. At the time I really didn't think it was going to be as serious. But I also didn't know anything about the situation.

The next period my Science teacher put the TV on in our classroom and we were watching the events live. Then we saw the 1st tower go down live on TV. IT was a surreal moment and a realization that this was much, much worse than I originally thought. It was awful watching that live. I thought it was fake.

We got out of school early and I spent the rest of the time watching the events unfold on TV. Every single channel had the events on live. Every channel. From ESPN to HBO. I think I was watching CNN/local news/whatever news for like 3 weeks straight. I didn't care about sports or anything else. I was struggling to come to grips with what happened.

I lived right across the street from Astoria Park on the East River. I had a clear view of the city. For the next few weeks, the stench from Manhattan was unbearable. It smelled like burning steel. There was also this eerie ................ing beeping sound or whatever the hell that could be heard. I believe that was some emergency thing from the plane or so I was told.

    Just an awful day.

I'm watching 102 Minutes that Changed America on the History Channel right now and some idiot reporter was asking an officer for his badge number after the officer told him to GTFO of the area near World Trade Center. I wanted to go through the screen and back in time to punch that moron in the face.

RIP to all the victims of Augusto Pinochet - The Chilean dictator installed by a CIA coup that overthrew Salvador Allende.

    9/11/73

    Never forget.

RIP to the victims of 9/11/01. Hopefully one day their deaths will stop being exploited by those who would seek to instill reactionary domestic policy, and imperialist foreign policy.

Instead, in the spirit of "never forget and never again", let's prevent future 9/11s by ceasing the behavior displayed in the original 9/11/73.

What's more amazing is the number that are still here. Do you remember how the board was set up back thwen? It was far different than it is now . There were no distinct forums as I remember.
