    Re: Five Guys Burgers

I went to a McDonald's in Delhi. They had to rethink it entirely, without any beef. They had chicken and fish, along with a veggie burger, a McAloo (potato) something-or-other, and whatever other unexpected things I can't remember - all done with Indian flavors (plenty of cumin).

And yet, somehow, by the time they were done, it was still unmistakeably McDonald's.

Why does fu*king get the "*" treatment, but cunts doesn't? CS loophole?

Couldn't get his hands on an In-N-Out burger? Must have gone during lunch time.

    McDonald's comes in last. Shocking.
As well they should. I'm not sure there is even any beef in those disgusting things.

Eh, some of us like them and I'm sure there is beef in them although I am not going to research the ingredients.

I don't take offense to anyone who doesn't like them, don't worry. I didn't appreciate being spoken down to before because I do. I have a guilty pleasure, I know it's terrible for me. Whatever. I smoke too. That's gonna kill me before a burger will.

If I'm going to have a fastfood place burger I'll go to Wendy's or order something off the Burger King dollar menu... but if someone prefers McDonald's, more power to them. (it's a rare thing these days, though, when I will have hamburger)

Me, I love McDonalds french fries. When I could eat like that I would go there for the fries and go to another place for the burger. And I do love the sausage mcmuffin for breakfast, had one the other day in fact as I decided to treat myself. Hey, if we all had the same taste there would be one restaurant out there that would be very busy!

Wendy's or Burger King, to me, are a lot closer to a hamburger than McDonalds but as you said that is just my opinion and preference but these days my splurges have to be few and far between and I'd rather not use them on fast food. I'd rather go to a sit down restaurant and have a real burger with cheddar cheese and thick bacon on it.

There's this one particular McDonalds that for some reason has the best quarter pounders and fries of all the McDonalds in the area. I think it's because it's in a very busy area, and they don't have anything sitting around.

I guess calling stuff "disgusting" that others eat occasionally tends to make one feel a bit defensive but that's ok, I will keep my mouth shut about McDonald's since it... nvm

See the thing is about this conversation is most people are actually describing eating at McDonalds as "treating themselves" or "indulging". Which implies, to me at least, that they think it's good.

Well to ME they are. Doesn't mean that anyone else has to agree. I'm not preaching or anything, just doing as others are doing and posting opinions, that's all. Like I said above, people have different tastes, nothing wrong with that. I just don't like McDonald's hamburgers. Others do, nothing wrong with either opinion.

grumble... read the conversation again.... I got defensive for an entire different reason. I don't care if anyone thinks it's disgusting or a 5 star meal.

this is probably way off topic but I'm not a fan of burger king at all. I've eaten there probably 3 or 4 times in my life and I've ALWAYS gotten sick afterward...even if I only get fries..I'm not sure why because I know a lot of people like it and don't get sick. It's a mystery.

Right, so this brings me to my first point in this conversation, that I am surprised they were ranked last. Most people consider it a treat, and in moderation, it's ok to eat it.

And no, your opinion shouldn't bother anyone. If you truly hate McDonalds burgers, cool. It certainly doesn't bother me if that's why you're tentative about your opinion. I was annoyed for an entirely different reason.

I think it depends on who is doing the ranking and what the criteria is. If the popularity of the burger is a criteria then it's flawed right off the bat. They may just be going by quality of the actual burger? Not sure as I didn't read that poll at all. And I think with McDonalds it's as much that sauce they use as the burger that gives it the flavor. As you said anything in moderation is fine, it's when it's a regular thing it gets dangerous.

And I'm glad you weren't offended (I can understand why you were annoyed as that was downright preaching and looking down on other people's taste which I wasn't doing at all). I was just giving my opinion on it and then saw the posts that followed and just wanted to make sure.

It's not a terrible burger by any means, but it's nothing special. It tastes like a glorified White Castle burger. I am not knocking White Castle. The Castle is a nice little fast-food burger that many people on the East Coast love because it reminds them of their youth. NO ONE would ever call it a gourmet burger, but that's what people who review 5 guys call their concoction of meat.

It's twice the price and half as good. That can't be a winning combination, but the chain is growing like wildfire. If you wanted to pay that much, you could pay a little more and get a proper gourmet burger from a real restaurant.

The fries are good, but they pale in comparison to In-And-Outs.

You order a regular hamburger and they give you...what's this....TWO patties? I didn't ask for two patties. "Oh, but sir, that's how we do that here." Jesus. You might have warned me before I opened it up and thought you gave me an extra patty because no one else wanted it.

In order to get a 1 patty burger, I have to sound like a fruit-cake and order a "little" hamburger. In-And-Out calls it a double-double. It makes sense. Double means twice as many. 2 patties. Not one.

Have any of you eaten at this place?
    Did you enjoy it?
If you've eaten at In-And-Out how would you compare the two?
    Has the world gone insane?

    Cliff notes:

    - I ate at 5 Guys and deemed it is not nearly as good as In-And-Out.
Have not tried Five Guys Burgers. In-And-Out is a very good fast-food Burger. There is another I like better. I'd call In-And-Out the St Louis Cardinals of burgers -- but I would call Nations burgers the New York Yankees of burgers.

Sweet. I highly recommend trying Ollie's if you're ever in the area. I know that Ollie's closes at the end of October. I will have to try Culver's at some point.

Steve, that wasn't very nice. I've always been kind to you.

Nations isn't really what I think of as fast food though. Kind of in that wierd category above fast food but not really a "good restaraunt".

A word on In-And-Out, I still like them but sometime in the last 2 years the patties on their hamburgers got smaller and they just aren't quite as good as they used to be.

Never been to a Five Guys either.

and last side track the French McDonald thing, shouldn't it be Le Royal au fromage?

I think that is one of three listings I've seen.

Royale with cheese. Go argue with Vincent.

Maybe that McD yellow pus-like stuff isn't legally 'fromage' in the land that gave us Brie, Camembert, and Boursin. It shouldn't be, anyway.

I was underwhelmed by Louis' Lunch but I got out of New Haven in 1975 and haven't been back.
