I thought I was fully prepared today but I'm out of fruit at the office and I forgot to bring in the high-fiber bread...plus I need to stock up on Yogurt and all-natural granola, then figure out a way to keep fresh veggies in here for a whole week.

I'll start with 1 24-oz bottled water each day at work and try to increase it to 2 bottles. That makes for extra trips to the bathroom but even that counts as exercise.

My Dr's office now has one, so with my regular monthly appointments i'll be getting a check in. In between then, i'll have to use the whole "belt" method.

I've got a 32 oz bottle for mixing in crystal light. I'm more than 1/2 way through this one, and i only made it at 12:45.

Dressing is a calorie abyss...can you tolerate a high-vinegar dressing with just a little olive oil? Soda is also nasty....all that refined sugar. I like the diet stuff but I don't like getting in the habit of having one everyday....I'm afraid of that book that hasn't been written yet: "Nutrasweet, the Silent Killer."

On the dressing thing, No. Wish I could.

I would have avoided the soda by mixing my drink sooner and bringing it to lunch, but remembered too late. Will try not to get into the habit of it.

I understand how you feel about the diet stuff. I'm chewing Trident to avoid going to the ................ing snack (CANDY) machines they have littered all over this place. Maybe one day i'll be able to drink water, chew grass, and eat bark to avoid all the flavor as well as the artificial sweetners - but it won't be soon.

Right now my weight is far more of a risk to my health than nutrasweet or splenda

You'll get used to the healthier choices. You have to, it doesn't sound like you have a choice in the matter.

Day 1 looks like 1500 calories, a lot fewer than I had wanted, but I wasn't hungry at all. Walked about 2 miles and did a workout for another half hour. It'll take 2 to 3 weeks before I see any noticeable changes but I expect I'll shed a couple of water pounds in week 1.

Let's hear what the rest of you are doing.

    Re: Weight-Loss Club, Fall 2010

Kept up my normal routine weekday routine yesterday, and will today as well. It's about 2000 calories or so, with a dinner or salad (with light oil/vinegar ceasar dressing), and a chicken breast or two. I do this usually three days a week, and it gives me some wiggle room on the others.

My weigh in was at 221.4 this morning. It's depressing that I lost 60 pounds in the first 6 months of this diet, and 4 in the last two, but as I grow closer to my goal weight (my BMI is just now dipping out of 'overweight' status), it's going to keep moving slower.

Take a week where you eat slightly more calories. Your body is getting used to the smaller amounts. Taking a week where you add a couple hundred (not 500-1000) a day will take advantage of evolution and get your metabolism moving faster.

As far as exercises go, are you switching them up or doing the same activites over and over?

    Re: Weight-Loss Club, Fall 2010

I got sick last week so by the weekend, I had abandoned the diet...will be going food shopping tonight so really starting tomorrow.

I was going to do a higher protein diet but I seem to get sick every time I do it and at times it's hard for me to eat meat - I'm just not a huge meat lover...so I'm just going to exercise more, watch my calories, no white sugar or white flour, eat lots of fruits and vegetables and get enough fiber.

I also have a meal replacement shake thing from my holistic doctor which I will use once a day - has most of my vitamins for the day since vitamins are so hard on my tummy. I add a little plain, nonfat yogurt and either peanut butter or a banana in there and I'm good to go.

Does anyone else see the irony that we need to have a Weight Loss Club when two of the more popular threads in here are about burger places and mexican food?

That's a plan! Seems that every plan has trouble spots, but as long as you have a stong will you can overcome all of them. I used to have 2 problem areas - hunger between meals and starving by dinner time. By having 5 light (150-200 calorie) meals and 1 800-calorie dinner I'm never hungry and I don't want to gorge myself at dinner. Eating 1/2 cup of raw veggies 30 minutes before dinner also helps take the edge off and you can resist a large dinner portion.

This is true Bub about all of them having pitfalls and having the will to overcome them. I've never had the problem of being hungry - I'm not a big eater - it's just everything I like, tends to be bad for me. but I gave up my biggest vice (regular coke) a couple weeks ago so that will help a lot.

I like the idea of eating some veggies before dinner - i do that a lot with water.

Also, I had ordered this stuff last year that seemed to help with not only craving hunger, but cravings in general since I'm such a nut for sugar. It also helps to keep your digestive track healthy and stuff but it definitely worked for me...this woman who is a vendor of ours lost about 30lbs on it after about 3 months -- it was much easier to stick to her plan because she wasn't craving food..it's all natural too..I may go back to drinking that before each meal too.

Well, last night I had pizza as planned, but one of the guys brought in some hot chili flavored doritos and I probably had too many of those. Other than that I was good.

Was hungry when I got home, and made some (real) peanut butter and jelly snacks on low-sodium crackers (ugh), so that I could take my evening meds.

Had two lite yogurts for breakfast, an orange around 9, an apple around 10:30, and the plan is a salad for lunch.

Can't wait for the dr's appointment tomorrow so that I can get the green light to start walking/exercising again

Oh, I'm not too concerned about that - I have had plenty of cheat days/weeks lately. That's more to blame for my slowed weight loss I'm sure .

I have a extremely varied workout routine, so I don't think my body is getting used to things. Most weeks I do the activities below, and I'll be adding in more weight lifting when the winter hits.

    HIIT (2x week)
    Running (1-3x week)
    Weights (2-3x week)
    Mountain Biking
    Spin
    Tennis/Softball/Waterskiing/other random sports

What is the timing of the intervals that you're doing? I was doing 20 one minute intervals of high for 20 seconds then 40 seconds low but a trainer told me to switch that up to 10 three minutes intervals of 2 minutes medium high and one minute low. I'm not sure which is way is better.

I had a salad.. and a small roll for lunch. This afternoon is going to be loooooooong...

Burgers for dinner tonight, with of course low sodium ketchup and limited pickels.

My wife really needs to make that turkey tonight so this doesn't happen again (crappy lunch)

It depends on what I'm in the mood for that day. Sometimes it's 30 minutes of 30sec hard/60 low, or sometimes 20 minutes of 30/30.

I'm a picky eater, so you'll find that most thing folks suggest for lunch are things i wont eat.

I'd love to have a cold cut sandwhich, with some lettuce, tomato, cheese and mustard.. but that would probably be my sodium allotment for the day with one meal.

I believe they sell low sodium turkey and ham at grocery stores. A healthy lunch that isn't loaded up in calories (salad dressing) will go a LONG way towards helping you achieve both your health and weight loss goals.

However, they dont sell those low sodium meats here in Hartford where i'm working I was expecting to have home cooked fresh turkey the last couple of days, but la Senora has not gotten off her duff and done it yet.

I limited my salad dressing as much as i could, and i bought some light dressing at the supermarket last night to bring into work and use.

Yeah, planning is the most important part of a weight loss plan. that's always my downfall because I'm so disorganized.

Me too - low sodium ham and turkey - tastes fine to me. And it has to be cut so thin it's almost shaved..they love me at the meat counter.

I <3 Boar's Head Brand. Only one supermarket chain out here has it though.

Another day of only 1400 calories. I wonder why I wasn't able to do this in previous diets? Seems I struggled to keep it under 1800.

    Re: Weight-Loss Club, Fall 2010

Well, I finally got on the scale and I know why my clothes aren't fitting - yikes, I have about 20 pounds to lose!

I've done well with eating this week - since Tuesday, I've been doing Phase 1 of South Beach basically (I'm not following the actual meal plans, but I remember what I am supposed to eat, and I've tweaked a little - I had ketchup on my bunless turkey burger the other night - but I'm pretty much on it). I haven't been back on the scale, but I feel better. I really don't like the way I feel when I eat too many carbs, and when I start, I just don't stop.

Now for movement...not so much. I have to get motivated to wake up early and exercise. If I lived by my sister, I'd meet her for her daily 5:45 walk, but I don't and it's way too easy to hit the snooze button. Better luck next week - one step at a time, I guess!

Good luck, though I'm sure you're still quite thin.

Personally, I'm on the "I have 15% of a stomach" diet.

Thanks, but it's all relative, ya know? I know what I should weigh to fit into all my clothes and have them look the way they should and I'm 15 pounds (at least) over that now, so...

    Re: Weight-Loss Club, Fall 2010

I finally did well with the eating starting yesterday. It took me way too long to get over eating so much junk over the weekend. Anyway, I'm down 5 pounds this morning, almost back to around what I should weigh, but I'd like to get the weight extra low at this point if I can.

    Re: Weight-Loss Club, Fall 2010

I need to lose about 50 - 60 pounds and I joined a weight loss class at my gym. We meet for two hours every Wed night and the first hour is a class w/ nutrition and exercise tips and the second one is a group exercise class. Starting this Thursday we're going to do a detox which means we can basically eat nothing but fruits and vegetables for a week. Has anyone ever done this? If so I'd love to hear how it went for you. I heard some horror stories from some folks at work so I'm a little concerned about some of the "side effects" of this diet.

I've never done anything like that... but my mom has lost over 50 lbs doing Zumba and pretty much doing a high protein/low carb diet. She's kickin butt at it too
