    Tampa Yankees moving?

I guess anything is possible with this cheap organization that likes to pinch pennies now.

    This is funny:

The Orlando Sentinel's Mike Bianchi wrote in his blog Tuesday night that he spoke with Gutierrez, who confirmed that a "major announcement" is planned for noon Thursday at at the Orange County Administration Building.

Crotty told WFTV that there still are several details to be worked out, including whether a new stadium needs to be built.
So they are going to have a "major announcement" without having even worked out whether they are going to build a stadium, not to mention how to fund it?

If it brings actual news out of the High-A ranks, I'm all for it. It doesn't make all that much sense though since Tampa is basically headquarters for the organization.

George Steinbrenner made it Yankee headquarters, maybe the 2 younger Steinbrenners have different ideas.

It doesn't seem like they would do that right after their dad passed away. It would also take a lot, logistically to move the offices and the stadium, and it really doesn't appear that Orlando is at that point.

Why is that relevant? Jeter isn't ownership.

Interesting. When I first read the title of the article, I assumed they would be moving into the stadium on Disney property (the one the Braves use during ST, the Rays used to have a AA team there for a few years) but from the sounds of it, it looks like they actually wanna build a new stadium somewhere closer to the actual city of Orlando.

You'd be pissed too if they moved your job (offseason training facilities + spring training) after you just built a fancy new house. He wouldn't like that move

Makes sense for him with the Yankees facilities in town, not so much if the Steinbrenners were to move elsewhere

The Yankees already stated they're not moving their offices and spring training home to Orlando. The FSL Yankees might move to Orlando, but I think a new stadium will be part of their requirements.

Here’s the statement from the Yankees.

“Reports today that the New York Yankees are considering moving the spring training facility from Tampa are completely erroneous. The Yankees are in very preliminary discussions regarding the possibility of a partial sale of their Single-A Tampa minor league affiliate to a potential group of Orange County, Fla., investors. The investors will make an announcement tomorrow. These exploratory conversations will have no impact on the Yankees’ spring training facility or the Major League team.”

MILB says that the FSL Tampa Yankees average 1519 in attendence. I find that hard to believe unless that counts players, coaches, concession, staff, gift shop employees, scouts, etc.

I've been to several games and you can basically sit anywhere you want. Or move around for shade, dugout view, etc.

I have no idea why the Yanks would want to move other than somebody offers them some money and moves them to where they can make it with greater attendance.

I'm sure its convenient for staff to be right on staff and watch players EVERY DAY.

The team released a statement saying that they aren't moving the team but instead are in negotiations to do a partial sale of the Tampa Yankees to a group of Orlando investors.
During my 18 years I came to bat almost 10,000 times. I struck out about 1,700 times and walked maybe 1,800 times. You figure a ballplayer will average about 500 at bats a season. That means I played seven years without ever hitting the ball. ~Mickey Mantle, 1970

Yay more I-Drive traffic. That should be great. Sorry only people who live or have spent alot of time in Central Florida/Orlando will understand what I mean.

    Magical move for Tampa?

The Yankees are looking to sell about half of their interest in the Class A Tampa Yankees and move them to the Orlando area.

Felix Lopez, the team's chief international officer, recently traveled to Cooperstown to see the Baseball Hall of Fame.

According to a person in the loop, Lopez would like to establish a "Yankees Hall of Fame" in the Orlando area to make the new club more appealing, and has interest in borrowing some of the Yankees items from the Hall.
