It was the pre game Outback spread, thanks to Pettitte. That stuff could make anyone pitch good.

Any idea who's pitching for Trenton in games 3 and 4? I had heard Warren would go game 3 but obviously that's not going to happen. I can't go to tonight's game but if they play tomorrow I would love to see Manny or Brackman pitch.

Banuelos is pitching game 3, I know that. I'm not sure about game 4, but yeah my guess is Brackman if they need it.

Thanks. I would love to have seen Manny pitch but if there is a game 4 it will be nice to see Brackman.

Anyone with an Insider sub care to report on what, if anything, KLaw had to say about Warren's outing last night?

    http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/blog?...26id%3d5553379

He spoke glowingly of the Yankees other solid minor league arm that threw last night.

    Re: September Minor League Thread

He really loved the fastball. Had him at similar velocities reported elsewhere, and really glowed about the command. Noticed that Warren was using the fastball as his out-pitch. Didn't have anything good to say about the offspeed stuff, no change up and fringy slider.

    Very cool, thanks man.

he blasted romine too saying he can throw, but his hands are just not soft enough for him to catch, and that he struggled with above-average velocity for the second night in a row. law thinks romine's gonna get squeezed out of the "catcher of the future" bucket with guys like murphy and sanchez coming up behind him.

If Montero can handle the plate, I think that is a definite possibility. Further, catchers are at such a premium that he might be a valuable trade chip should an opportunity be out there -- having so much depth at C can only be a good thing for the team.

    Game 3 - Banuelos; game 4 - Brackman.
Royal Flush: Hughes, Sabathia, Betances, Brackman, Banuelos.

He K'd the first batter of the inning.

second guy got an infield single manny got a glove on the ball but if he had let it go the 2B would of probably made the play for an out. He went to steal and was caught stealing(via Romine) for the second out!

That's because the NH team ran into sick pitching in every game. Tonight through six Banuelos hasn't given up a run, he's given up 4 hits, 3 walks and has 5 strikeouts.

I think this is a case of Law being influenced by Romine's second half slump with the bat, and finding justifications to bump guys who have hit more/ have a high OBP, up in the rankings.

Remember that Law was all over Romine at mid-season. Don't let his talk about the glove fool you- he is really thinking of the bat.

Yep, especially since he told everyone for years that Lars Anderson was a sure thing blue chipper because the swing was so smooth. Obviously AAA and AA pitchers had no problem dealing with that swing.

On this one I think the odds are that Law is correct. Romine hasn't progressed defensively and you already talked about the slump.

By comparison, Gary Sanchez in his step up at Staten Island threw out 7 of 13 base stealers - indicating real progress is being made defensively.

Royal Flush: Hughes, Sabathia, Betances, Brackman, Banuelos.

I also think its pretty moot as far as the Yanks are concerned- its going to Montero or bust at C for the Yanks near term. Romine is likely trade bait.

Should we expect Betances/Banuelos/Brackman to all start in AA again next year?

    Jesus Montero since June 1 (286 at-bats):
    .325/.386/.605/.991
    July 1 (182 at-bats):
    .348/.417/.658/1.075

If they are still in the system I could actually see it. Brackman is really the only one who has a good shot at Triple-A, but I think it's 50/50 for him.

The complicating factor is that he has to be on the ML roster in 2012. I hate that contract.

Agree with the sentiment "if they are all in the system." I could see one being traded in the next year or so if it could bring back something special -- there won't be room for all these guys at some point.

I mean on the ML roster. They haven't shied away from trading top prospects in the past, and if the right deal comes along, it wouldn't shock me if they traded one of these guys.

How many top prospects have they traded in the past with their kind of upside though? Nobody.

    Forgot about Viz.

Sometimes I want to forget that happened & Viz isn't real. God damn Vazquez.

    Re: September Minor League Thread

I wouldn't assume signing Lee is a fait accompli. Not now when the Yankees get a closer look at the back.

This is similar to the 2007/08 offseason, with all the Yankees talent in the minors (expecially pitchers). Except with Lee he will be a free agent and won't require a trade the Yankees would regret soon after its made.

Of all the top line pitcher prospects, the one who might get moved in the right deal - is Brackman.

Royal Flush: Hughes, Sabathia, Betances, Brackman, Banuelos.

Lets also remember that these three are pretty much at the same level. Assuming they continue on as expected....they should be reaching the majors around the same time.

How would that work trying to break in 2 or 3 young starters at the same time and innings limits? Or just in general breaking in 2 or 3 young pitchers into the rotation at the same time?

This is a franchise that was willing to trade Montero -- so anything is possible. (And, yes, I realize what was potentially coming back, but Lee was still a rental.)

We'll see where they are after next year. There are still questions about all of them, and they may not all produce at the same level they did this year (or for part of this year). There was a time when Tabata and Jackson were also pretty well thought of.
