As far as White goes with Seniors you have until the day of the draft the following year to sign them and if not i believe they go back in the draft. if they arent picked then they are FA.

since slade has his share of struggles this year does he start next year back in charleston or do they advance him to tampa anyway? im thinking start in charleston and if he picks it up he moves maybe mid year.

This is a really good question.

There really aren't enough OF to push Slade up. Segedin is actually most likely to go right to Tampa himself, rather than Charleston. DeLeon really didn't earn a promotion, but might get it anyway. After that...

It might be good to have Slade work on fundamentals longer at an easier level. On the other hand, he might need to face better pitching in order to be forced to make changes and improvements.

Hard to answer right now. My guess- hold him back in April and maybe May, then re-assess.

DeLeon has no idea of what to do at the plate. He has the worst plate discipline Ive seen in quite awhile. K has power when he meets the ball but not much else.

He is still young but he isn't any where near close to where Id thought he'd be for a over 1mill bonus baby who has been on few top 10 list's. He runs well for his size but isn't a good base runner and takes strange routes to the ball in the outfield. Segdin is way ahead of K at the plate but you can tell he needs alot of work if he's to stay at 3rd.

The Yankees held back Austin Jackson in 2007 in a similar situation until a mid-season promotion to Tampa. And, the Twins held back Aaron Hicks this year in a similar situation.

Since its a rehab start, this could work out well for Dellin too. I assume that the Yanks are not going to ask Pettitte to throw 100 pitches- maybe 60 or so.

Given that Dellin is on an approximately 80 pitch count, this could be just right.

The Yanks could send Pettitte out there for 4-5 innings, then let Dellin finish the game- given his stuff, 80 pitches should get him through 4-5 innings.

Yeah, I know they could both pitch but I want to see Dellin start the game instead of pitch in an odd capacity - essentially as a mopup guy - the first time I see him live.

True, but I think that the Yanks correctly are placing the higher priority on getting Pettitte playoff ready.

Besides, with an 80-pitch limit, wouldn't you feel a bit let down to have Trenton pull Betances after 4-5 innings if he was doing well, rather than having him nail down and possibly finish the game, so you don't feel like he got pulled too soon?

    Re: September Minor League Thread

Now Pettitte is being pushed back to Thursday. I guess that means Dellin game 1, Warren game 3 and Brackman game 4 if necessary. I won't be able to make game 3 but I'll try to see game 4 up here.

Mark Feinsand of The Daily News and Marc Carig of The Star-Ledger are both reporting on Twitter that Andy Pettitte’s start has been moved to Thursday to keep him on regular rest…

    Plan accordingly, ticket buyers…

Of course, and I never said otherwise. Because I selfishly want to see Dellin possibly throw 6 innings doesn't mean I want the organization to sacrifice Pettitte's ability to get back into form for the big club's playoff run.

And now that Andy's been pushed back to Thursday I may get my wish.

Well, if you are going to see Betances, let us know what his secondary stuff looks like. IMO, there is no question about his FB- the other pitches and the ability to throw strikes with them, or get hitters to chase stuff is more important IMO.

    What prediction?

Also, just bought my tix for tomorrow night's Thunder game. 10 rows behind homeplate for Dellin versus Kyle Drabek.

Jeremy Hellickson of Durham chosen as Baseball America's minor league player of the year. In Q and A today, J.J Cooper was asked "Had Montero's second half been as impressive as his first, would he have usurped Helly for the title?" His response was "Yeah probably, but if we're playing with this hypothetical, the "only second-half counts" Matt Moore would have run away with the award."

An embarrassment of pitching riches. Garza or Shields are definitely being traded this offseson...if I were Freidman, at least.

I've had a mancrush on Matthew Moore since his age 19 season. That kid has 490 strikeouts in 340 career minor league innings.

An embarrassment of pitching riches indeed.

He strikes out 13 per 9 every year and his bb/9 is down to 3.8 this year. Any time your k/bb rate is 3.50 you're going to be fine and as he learns to pitch that will take care of itself, IMO.

It'll be interesting to see how Tampa does without the benefit of having top 5 picks on a yearly basis from here on out. Not that I'm discrediting them or anything.
