Just 50,000 fans of the New York Yankees.
Not only was he a great player, but he also showed a great deal of class over the years when he and Ralph Branca would get together to talk about that event. Ralph and he, I believe, became good friends. I also think that he lived for many years in Watchung, NJ and was often seen around the central jersey area. R.I.P. Bobby.
RIP Bobby.
What a legendary moment.
The Man
The Legend
The Greek
Thomson not Thompson.
He answered a letter I wrote him once. I still have it, of course.

Russ Hodges's call on "The Shot Heard 'Round the World" aka "Miracle of Coogan's Bluff" was legendary.
"Bobby Thomson... up there swingin'... He's had two out of three, a single and a double, and Billy Cox is playing him right on the third-base line... One out, last of the ninth... Branca pitches... Bobby Thomson takes a strike called on the inside corner... Bobby hitting at .292... He's had a single and a double and he drove in the Giants' first run with a long fly to center... Brooklyn leads it 4-2...Hartung down the line at third not taking any chances... Lockman with not too big of a lead at second, but he'll be runnin' like the wind if Thomson hits one... Branca throws... [audible sound of bat meeting ball]
There's a long drive... it's gonna be, I believe...THE GIANTS WIN THE PENNANT!! THE GIANTS WIN THE PENNANT! THE GIANTS WIN THE PENNANT! THE GIANTS WIN THE PENNANT! Bobby Thomson hits into the lower deck of the left-field stands! The Giants win the pennant and they're goin' crazy, they're goin' crazy! HEEEY-OH!!!'' [ten-second pause for crowd noise]
I don't believe it! I don't believe it! I do not believe it! Bobby Thomson... hit a line drive... into the lower deck... of the left-field stands... and this blame place is goin' crazy! The Giants! Horace Stoneham has got a winner! The Giants won it... by a score of 5 to 4... and they're pickin' Bobby Thomson up... and carryin' him off the field!"

One must know pain to be a hero.
One of the greatest moments in baseball history. He will never be forgotten.
I heard this today...Did Coltrane actually exist? This is like being blind for 50 years, regaining sight, and then peering directly at the sun.
Having that Ross Hodges call on my I-Pod...I must play it more than once a week.

Yankees won the World Series the year Bobby hit his little home run.
Rest in Peace Bobby T.
If I had 3 wishes... One of my wishes would be to make a select few of you Pirates Fans.
Good point....back in the day, a team's greatest moment occured right before they fell to the Yanks.Originally Posted by JDPNYY

One of the local newscasters referred to him as Bobby "Thomas." Twice. That nimrod deserves to get a foul ball upside the head. Twice.
