Which Do you Prefer: NBA or NHL

I aqm tired of WFAN and 1050 ignoring hockey, while talking about that neanderthal sport called the NBA.
The NHL is a tough sport to play and the prize, the Stanley Cup, is the most coveted in sports.
The NBA..wow...some trophy awarded since 1950.
    Vote.

Re: Which Do you Prefer: NBA or NHL

I think NHL is too hard to follow on TV. I find it hard to see where the puck is going on shots and the action in front of the net is tough to see as well when there is a big cluster in front and some guy squeezes the puck into the net. Just doesn't do it for me. I did go to a few Rangers games and that was pretty awesome in person. Def got to give those guys props b/c like you said, it's a tough sport to play.

I do consider myself a sports fan but I remember watching Sportscenter a few times and hockey highlights would come on and I'd be suprised hockey had either started already or that it was still going on.

I'm not exactly a hockey expert but I think that a) there isn't enough scoring and b) the rink is too small. The guys skate so fast and go from place to place so quick then stop... maybe make the rink bigger, give the guys some room to spread the ice, let them really build up some speed. I have no idea how big the hockey net is either, but maybe consider making that a bit bigger as well. Goalies seem to take up the entire open space of the net.

Given my username I think we all know what I prefer. Though I do follow the NBA casually since I like sports in general.

I've always found the "lack of scoring" argument curious. Any sport that has only one true manner of scoring and only counts it as 1 point is going to be at a disadvantage in terms of a "lack of scoring". If you eliminated worthless field goals and extra points, and said TDs were worth just 1 "point", football games would generally end up around 4-3 and yet no one complains about the lack of scoring in football aside from Bill Polian.

It also implies that a scoring play is the only exciting play in a game. Which I think is completely false. Clearing the zone on a power play is exciting to me, a big save or a big hit are also big plays that don't reflect in the scoresheet.

In basketball, the only remotely interesting plays are scoring plays and even some of those (free throws, wide open jump shots, etc.) aren't really that interesting.

I voted for "The NHL more..though I don't mind/casually follow the NBA “ although it would have been “I Like Both Equally” or “The NBA..though I don't mind/casually follow the NHL” back when the Knicks were good in the 1990s. I watch the bad Islanders much more than the bad Knicks. For basketball I'm a bigger fan of the NCAA than the NBA.

    Where is the option for:

The NBA...can't stand/don't follow the NHL

I can't vote because I don't see that option there.

    The NHL by far.

The NBA is and I will only watch the playoffs.

Yeah but do you think the casual watcher cares about those things?

As for the crazy ass OP, The NHL over the NBA by a mile for me but I'm alright with the NBA, especially during the playoffs.

I can't even casually watch the NBA anymore, playoffs included.

One thing I've never come across is someone who has played both hockey and basketball and prefers basketball. Problem is, hockey is expensive to play and much of the population never gets the opportunity, plus you add in the fact that you have to learn a whole other skill (skating) just to be able to learn how to play.

NHL by a ton. Never been too much a fan of the NBA.

The NHL actually took steps a few years ago to increase scoring and 'exciting end to end action' by decreasing the size of goalie equipment, getting rid of the two-line pass, increasing the size behind the net and introducing the shoot-out.

As for having a hard time following the play, yeah I have heard this argument even from my family members. I guess it just takes a little to get accustomed to the pace of play and being able to recognize the flow of the game in order to understand what is going on.

NHL by a long shot. I can't get in to the NBA at all. There's no drama or excitement. It's August 11th and everyone on this board knows that two of the Heat, Celtics, Lakers or Nuggets will be in the Finals next year.

NHL. I don't really get into the NBA unless the Knicks are good. Obviously, it's been a long time. I definitely watch more hockey.

Re: Which Do you Prefer: NBA or NHL

How about for soccer and hockey, eliminating offsides? As a casual observer, it just seems stupid. If you want to cherry pick (which is the reason I think they have it), then let them. Cherry picking has it's benefits on offense but to the detriment of defense. So why not? In bball, if you really wanted to play 3 on 5 on D and have 2 guys standing around under the basket on the other side, you could... but it'd be stupid for obvious reasons. Why not let them do it in soccer/hockey without penalties?

Its not worth their time to.
Believe me, if people made enough fuss about the lack of coverage, they would go out of their way to cover it because no media outlet is dumb enough to turn away customers.
Look at the newspaper coverage for an example of this also.

A neanderthal sport? Please, be more racist.

I use to follow the NBA in the 70`s and 80`s (Sixer`s fan) but the whole gangster thing turned me off in the 90`s. I`ll watch the play-offs games that doesn`t conflict with the the NHL.........

NBA, although being a Knicks fan certainly tests that. I only casually follow hockey, and if the Rangers were good again, would be your classic bandwagon fan and definitely follow it again.

Re: Which Do you Prefer: NBA or NHL

NHL for me, obviously, since I write on the Rangers. I must say, I like the sport of basketball, but have trouble with the NBA. I just don't think the quality is very good, and I think the good teams are really good, the bad teams are really bad, and there are very few teams in between. So, for that reason I have trouble with the NBA.
