I would say it is about how everything in our society did a complete 360 turnaround starting at about 1964, what it looked and felt like before and after that change, how it changed people, etc. Don Draper is the protagonist and so it is seen through his life and the life of the people at the Ad Agency and their families.Originally Posted by NYDCYankee

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the comments and sorry to offend. I've only seen Desperate Housewives once or twice and not even the entire show.....I never liked it. I just had no idea what Mad Men was about. I'm definitely going to start watching.

You really would be doing a dis-service starting in the middle of season 4. Try to get the DVDs and start from scratch. They're only 12 episode seasons.Originally Posted by 4bronxbombers
I totally agree with this. It will not have anywhere near the same impact if you start watching now. Start at the beginning, and you will realize why we suggested you do so.Originally Posted by RhodyYanksFan

And that is what I'll do. Thanks again for the feedback. There is a pic of the crew on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine. I don't know who the blonde is but i LOVE her dress!![]()

That is probably January Jones who plays Don Draper's ex-wife, Betty. Is she wearing a 1960's style dress?Originally Posted by 4bronxbombers

Another good episode tonight.
I loved the line by Don when he saw Betty and Henry at the restaurant. His date asked who the third person was. Don: "Some poor slob who's about to have the worst dinner of his life."

That was a great line but the whole episode was great. I thoroughly enjoyed last night's episode. I like the narrative by Don Draper. Great stuff.Originally Posted by Barb51850
Another thing I loved was that Betty is showing her true colors, she is a b*tch no matter who she is married to. It was also apparent she is still in love with Don who runs rings around that jerk she married.
I am trying to decide what is Joan's problem. It is certain that she is jealous of Peggy and Peggy really does nothing to promote any of the women who are secretaries. Joan runs the office yet they still consider her a secretary partly because of the way she looks and partly just because she is a woman.

Betty is definitely still in love with Don. What a reaction she had after seeing him in the restaurant with a date. I thought she was going to pass out in the ladies room.Originally Posted by Octoberbaby
I don't get what is wrong with Joan either. I did love it when she told those guys about how they would end up in Vietnam, and “Remember, you’re not dying for me, because I never liked you!"
Another funny line by Don regarding his secretary who just had cataract surgery "Tell Ray Charles to come in here."

I'm not so sure Betty is still in love with Don. I think she's just a child. She hasn't really exhibited that she even knows what love is.
This was so awesome.Originally Posted by Barb51850
Now, this episode was not as emotional as the previous one. But it was maybe just as good. It reminded me of a very good Sopranos episode.

Loved Don's reaction when Peggy brought him the cartoon and said it was Joey's work: "Narrative, forced perspective—are you sure Joey did this?"

As for Joan, I am sure she is unhappy in her job recognition and she has been jealous of Peggy since she got promoted to copy writer.

I worked with many Joans over the years - secretaries who were good at their jobs, were highly valued by the company, and took that as their cue to start bossing other people around.Originally Posted by Octoberbaby

I'd say at its core, the show is about one simple question: "Who am I?", particularly through the actions and words of the two very charismatic but deeply flawed protagonists, Don (Dick) and Peggy.Originally Posted by 4bronxbombers
Layered just on top of that is a look at American society asking itself that very same question during one of the most turbulent periods in its history.
