Last full month of the minor league season.
Royal Flush: Hughes, Sabathia, Betances, Brackman, Banuelos.
Albaladejo must be wondering what it takes to get to the bronx when he sees joba with an era of 5.60, a couple of stiffs like gaudin and mitre still up there then they go out and trade for a guy (wood) with an era of 6.30.
Read that Ace might be able to begin pitching in minor league rehab games next week. If he makes it back anytime soon, Guadin should be shown the door.
he needs another 3 mph on the fastball and some movement.
oy vey
he's getting regular work in SWB and will be brought up in Sept. If he performs in Sept then he'll be on the post season roster.
wouldnt be so sure about that. pen for the playoffs right now has Mo, Hughes, Robertson as locks with Joba, Wood, Ace, Marte/Logan all ahead of him and if they bring Nova up in Sept he could move up as well. Albie will have a shot, but still a longshot.Originally Posted by groundhoggator

Yea unfortunately I wouldn't expect to see Albaladejo back in the majors anytime soon. Gaudin will likely hang around until Pettitte is back. At which time Mosely moves to the pen. Also with Marte and Ace possibly coming back from the DL there's two more guys in Albaladejo's way.
Personally I'd love to see them just part ways with Guadin now to give Albaladejo a shot, but I'm not expecting that. With Wood in the mix that gives the Yankees another short inning reliever, so they may want Guadin as another long relief option.
It is dissapointing that in a season in which our bullpen has underperformed that the team was so hesitant to give younger guys an opportunity. Albaladejo seemed to re-work his stuff to the point where he could really help the team and never got a chance to prove it. Sanchez and Nova both did enough to earn a shot, but never got it. Melancon was handled terribly as well to the point where he absolutely needed to get out of this organization.

Went to the SI game last night and Its funny how DeLeon will not take a pitch unless it obvious its going to bounce in or go over the catchers head.4 at bats and 2 of them were fist pitch outs the other was 3 . I don't think the Yanks find it funny though. PS MCU park is not eveen close to being as nice as SI.The fiels it's self was in horrible condition.
There is a reason for the field condition, they have a lot of events during games the Cyclones are not there. De Leon is an interesting case at times he would be the most patient batter then other times he swings at everything.Originally Posted by Yankyfan

UPDATE, 8:28 p.m.: According to Mike Ashmore, Brandon Laird has been promoted to Triple-A and Corban Joseph has been called up to Double-A. Those are two of the more interesting, though maybe not highly touted, prospects in the system.

"Jesus Montero is a stud," one evaluator wrote in an e-mail. "One of the best young hitters I've ever seen, period."
Next season, I suspect Corban Joseph will stay in AA, do they bump David Adams to AAA even though his seasom was cut short with a broken ankle?Originally Posted by ICEBERG18

I think they'll both start in AA. Especially since the team is likely to have one of Russo or Corona playing 2B in AAA anyway. Plus the fact that Joseph was promoted to take Laird's spot suggests that he may be playing some 3B in AA anyway. I'd also suspect that next season is the year that the team tries to move Joseph and/or Adams around a bit more. Perhaps to the OF, but Joseph in particular will likely at least play both 2B and 3B.Originally Posted by Dexter Morgan
Besides the Yankees generally don't promote prospects until they're ready for it. At least their better prospects. And while Adams started the year strong I don't think they'll push him up to AAA to start the year. They'll make sure he is ready first. However another start like this year and he'll be in AAA pretty quickly.
Good move especially with adams out for the year. laird nothing left to prove at AA.Originally Posted by ICEBERG18

i think they had a chance to trade laird, but cashman kept him in hopes of making him into a super utility guy... problem is, his D isn't exactly his strong suit at this point

Corona isn't going to hold back Adams. In fact, he's the most likely candidate to get dropped from the 40 if they need an extra spot now. Russo, assuming that he isn't a PTBNL in the Wood/Kearns deals, is more likely being developed as a ML sub with position versatility- meaning don't expect to see him spend a lot of time at 2B next year, if he's still in the system.Originally Posted by primetime714

Really proud of Laird. One of those guys that was just a passing comment for so long but he kept plugging away and it all came together for him this season.
He prob wont play for us but he's given himself a chance to fit in someplace with his performances this year.
"Owning the Yankees," Steinbrenner once said, "is like owning the Mona Lisa."

I agree, that's why I said if Adams starts the year in AA strong again he'll be in AAA rather quickly. The fact that AAA may have either Corona or Russo to play 2B was more of a sidenote. Basically Adams will start in AA because he hasn't done enough at the level for a promotion, so the Yankees will wait and make sure he is ready. Also the organization probably doesn't have a real strong desire to make sure Joseph stays at 2B unless they're trying to trade him. In all likelihood they'll try to add some more positions to his plate.Originally Posted by Matsui55

He made it through the deadline, if he makes it through the offseason I think he'll be in a good position to earn a role with the ML club at some point next year. Depending on what we do in free agency he'll be our best backup option for ARod, so I think there's a very good chance he sees some time next year. Especially if he can learn to play a passable OF.Originally Posted by b_joseph
we have at least 4 easily expendable players on the 40 man that are in the minors along with guys who are free agents. No one is going to lose sleep if they drop Golson, Huffman, WDLR, Corona. On top of that we have Gaudin, Mitre who could be dropped whenever this season.
In the offseason we get spots for Wood, Kearns, Thames, Berkman, Moseley to help with the Rule V guys we will need to protect and replacements for next year's club.
If Adams is ready to play baseball for the Winter or Fall team then he may promote to AAA next season. Otherwise, he should stay with Trenton for a while.Originally Posted by Dexter Morgan
Yankees have been pushing kids up in order to improve their stock value. I guess they did that just in case if they could not sign Lee or one more big bat this off season.
Not many promising first time rule 5 eligibility prospects. McAllister, Laird and Betances. Snyder and Kontos? maybe.Originally Posted by mwalvlior
I think Corona will be only one minor player that will be cut. Huffman can replace Thames. Golson has speed Girardi likes. WDLR is rare southpaw.
Not sure if Russo Will survive either. Unless he is one of the PTBNL going to the Indians. WDLR has had a very rough season, and seems to have stalled in AA. I wonder if they just expose him, and whomever takes him is getting a lefty not ready for the big show.Originally Posted by yoo-boo
Snyder has no shot at being protected. He had a golden opportunity this season when Adams got hurt, and while his BB/K rate is excellent for a hitter, he has not lit up any radar stations anywhere with his overall hitting.
Golson is worthless if Gardner and Granderson return next year. I would rather Curtis as teh 4th OF anyway.

McAllister, Laird, and Betances will definitely be protected. Snyder definitely won't. Kontos I think is likely to be protected because add in a full offseason to his recovery and he could be a bullpen option for someone. Tim Norton I think also has to be protected this year and his performance this year should warrant it despite his age.Originally Posted by yoo-boo
In all likelihood we'll protect anyone that realistically might be taken in the rule 5 draft using spots that are open due to free agency. That said you have to imagine guys like Corona, Golson, Huffman, WDR, Russo, and even Miranda will likely be in trouble at some point in the offseason when we're signing free agents and need spots for them.
RAB said Miranda will be out of option after this season so either he is on 25 man roster or DFA.Originally Posted by primetime714

Norton is a good candidate too. How is his breaking ball? if good then he is in and Kontos is out.
Really, all of them are just fillers, anyway. lol.
Adams situation has nothing to do with my guesswork on Synder. Adams wont be eligible for rule 5 until next year or so. With Miranda out, Synder may be only left handed power in the basement as Curtis lacks power. However many teams may not take a chance on his health for 25k/50k.Originally Posted by mbn007
By golson being worthless, I assume you mean 25 man roster which is flat out correct but after 2G, there is no speedy OF for emergency games. I would like to keep Golson on 40 roster.
I never said that Adams situation effects the guesswork on Snyder. I never even hinted that Adams is or is not a Rule 5 case. Nothing to do with the discussion at all. Don't know where you read that one from in my post.Originally Posted by yoo-boo
I was making a point that IMO, Snyder has no chance to be protected, and my reasoning is that he had a shot to shine on an everyday basis this year (Adams injury) and did not.
That's all.
BTW - If Curtis is more of a power threat than Snyder. I do not follow the stats world much, but i would like to see their overall ISOs.

The fact that Miranda has to be on the 25 man is the reason I said he may be at risk at some point this year. That said I don't think the team will cut ties with him until they need the 25 man spot. I think they'll give him a shot to earn a spot on the bench. Although I guess it depends on who they sign. If they sign a left handed hitter that would take his ABs then they may just DFA before spring training and just see what they can get in a trade.Originally Posted by yoo-boo
Snyder likely won't be taken in the Rule 5 draft and even if he were he's not worth protecting. He's not even as good as Corona so I couldn't see any feasible reason for making room for him on the 40 man.
As for Norton his Slider is good and he also has an ok changeup. He needs to command them a bit better, but as a former starter he does have a decent repetoire at his disposal. I'd protect him because I could see a team take a chance on him in Rule 5. Relievers are usually a hot commodity in the Rule 5 draft.

Laird promoted to AAA
Day late.
"I see Jesus Montero as a potential once-in-a-generation force on offense."

I think some of those guys might be PTBNL types like Miranda. I would think most teams are having 40 man roster issues right now so when those clear up later this year, a guy like Miranda might be shipped out to Cleveland or Houston.
You suggested that Yankees would not protect Synder due to his weak production this year. I ignored all "SUCK" factors against Synder because of miranda's situation. Synder's edge is that Adams is not required to be on 40 roster. Synder is not well known for defense but he can play all positions.Originally Posted by mbn007
Yeah, Miranda definitely will be on 25 roster until any further action during FA or next season but I really do think Yankees let Miranda go so that he can try to win the starting job elsewhere.Originally Posted by primetime714
I think I like the notion of keeping both Kontos and Norton anyways.

If it hasn't been mentioned before, Cotham had shoulder surgery a while back.

Going to be tough not to move him to Trenton soon.

Dellin should choose his stats before the game just to save time for the other team.

Wait, what? Justin Snyder? Why would anyone care about losing him. I'd say he's the definition of a replacement level player, but I don't want to exaggerate his abilities.Originally Posted by yoo-boo
