Jonathan Ortiz has a decent case. He was more dominant than one, but the one had 33 saves, which is hard to be too disapointed with that selection.
One thing that is impressive, Corban Joseph's .302 avg makes him one of only 4 guys over .300 in that pitcher's league.
Bradley Suttle's .275 looks pedestrian, but he's 15th in the FSL in hitting. His 10 Hr's place him in 13th place in the FSL. His RBI's place 2nd.
Now granted, many players move once they show success at a level, but that's not a bad year at all, especially after Suttle's start.

An article writing about Heathcott's walkoff homerun last night and Marshall's 36 inning string, while allowing only 2 earned runs.

hey guys,
new poster here. I've been reading the board for a while but never had any need to post. I was in Harrisburg for the Thunder game last Saturday night and was pretty excited to see Banuelos pitch.
He looks a bit bigger than 5'10, 155 or whatever they list him as and he worked quick. He got himself into and out of trouble a few times. I think his line might be a bit misleading because after a few guys got on base, he gave up some hard hit balls that went right to his fielders.
Also, the stadium gun had him sitting around 89 all night. I don't know if it was a slow gun or what but Pope came in and got the save and he was around 93.

Thanks for the first hand update. I have a hard time believing many of the speeds that are posted. 89 would not surprise me.
Loved you on the game shows you appeared on and in the Ghost and Mrs. Muir!![]()

Saw Culver and Sanchez play in person tonight. Unfortunately, not a great game for either. Culver went 0-3 w/a walk....seemed like was just slapping at the ball and not trying to drive it at all. His 3 outs weren't hit well. Also made an error in the field and was saved another by the first baseman.
Sanchez went 0-3 but I was impressed by his AB's. Worked the count full on all three and seemed to have good knowledge of the strike zone. First AB was a flyout to center, second was a hard grounder up the middle--was scored an error but probably should have been scored a hit. Third AB he flew out deep to left center...prob middle of the warning track. I didnt get to see him catch since was the DH.
Jesus Montero since June 1 (286 at-bats):
.325/.386/.605/.991
July 1 (182 at-bats):
.348/.417/.658/1.075
Montero 1-4
Romine 3-5, 2RBI
Heathcott 2-5, R, 2B, 2RBI, SO, SB
Flores 2-6, RBI, SO
Murphy 0-2, R, 2BB, SO
Culver 0-2, BB
Segedin 1-2, BB
Sanchez 0-3

People have stated that the radar gun at Harrisburg has been off by 3-4 mph for years. As to Banuelos, he has been described as being about 5'11, but more muscular than say Pedro Martinez was in the shoulders. By the time he gets to the majors, I think he will be closer to 185-190 lbs.Originally Posted by CharlesNelsonReilly
yep, I think that's an accurate physical description. he could certainly fill out a bit when he gets his man muscles.

The idea was that if Cervelli could be league average-ish offensively and very much above average defensively, he could be our future catcher. Not a crazy concept or prediction. You people are making it sound like I said Cervelli would be an All-Star with production of Mauer.Originally Posted by cliftonite

Don't you think you are being a little light on yourself? You were predicting Cervelli to be the future catcher of the New York Yankees (big difference vs comparing the same on a team like the Royals)...and in less than a year, everyone wants the guy off the team.Originally Posted by JavyVazquezIsSick
Sorry, it was a pretty terrible thing to say, akin to Javy being any good.
Oh My! The New York Yankees!!! Wow! You sound like Susan Waldman. I'd have no problem with having a starting catcher who is averagish offensively and elite defensively. However, Cervelli isn't either anymore.Originally Posted by kongull
lulz. This screen name was created when he first came to the Yankees. I'd love to see why you didn't think he was going to be good.

It was a dumb prediction, that's all.
Except, Cervelli was projected to be an above average hitter according to OBA for a catcher as well as already having elite defense. A catcher that is average offensively and elite defensively is better than a lot of others.Originally Posted by kongull

Above average hitter, with elite defense projections. Holy Balls, must've been really high on those peoples prospect lists. Can you show me?Originally Posted by JavyVazquezIsSick

Cervelli never projected as an above average hitter according to wOBA. He is and always has projected as below average.
This was his defense last season:
http://www.drivelinemechanics.com/20...nse-filling-in
Marcel had his wOBA at .332, Bill James at .315, ZIPS used to have him at .320.
League average wOBA for a catcher is .309
Calmer than you are.

That link doesn't work, and league average wOBA is .321, not .309. I don't know where you got that number but it's wrong. The Marcel's projection is ridiculous, it has Cervelli posting a .142 iso which he will never do.
Here are his projections. They average a projection of .310, which is firmly below average, and is skewed because Bill James projections have a higher offensive baseline than other systems.Season Type BB% K% BB/K OBP SLG OPS ISO Spd BABIP wRC wRAA wOBA
2010 Bill James 6.4 % 16.8 % 0.41 .326 .385 .711 .105 1.5 .321 18.7 -1.9 .315
2010 CHONE 6.1 % 20.4 % 0.32 .311 .376 .687 .119 2.6 .309 25.2 -6.4 .300
2010 Marcel 7.2 % 17.3 % 0.46 .340 .427 .767 .142 3.7 .319 30.7 0.6 .332
2010 ZiPS 6.1 % 20.1 % 0.32 .307 .380 .687 .125 3.4 .301 19.0 -4.8 .300
2010 All Fans (29) 5.5 % 18.0 % 0.32 .320 .363 .682 .094 3.0 .314 21.7 -4.8 .303
So no, he always projected as below average and still does.

Let's not even get to the fact that he is quoting projection systems that are based soley on historical data on a guy entering his first full season of professional baseball, and speaks to nothing of their tools.
Not a single organization projected Cervelli to be an above average hitting catcher with elite defense, and they were right.
Not really. I didn't say league average was .309, I said league average for catcher's is .309.Originally Posted by yankee82093

Turn the page. Literally and figuratively. It's September.
"I see Jesus Montero as a potential once-in-a-generation force on offense."

Ok, so Cervelli projected as an average hitting catcher (before the season) and an above average defensively (though if you used the same methods to project as CHONE, ZiPS, Marcel's, etc. you would get heavily regressed figures for defense, so like +5 is the highest you would get as a projection)
So before the season, he projected as a slightly above average overall player. I would agree with this. I even came to the same conclusion when I wrote a blog piece about it a while ago. http://pendingpinstripes.net/2010-ar...-cervelli.html
