Even in a rehabbing year I admit he needs to move to Trenton.

That Joba was a myth, it never really existed.
Wonder how hard Betances was throwing.

At this point, I agree. He needs to be challenged by better hitters.Originally Posted by Melan-cynic

Not a bad debut in AAA for Laird. He is only 4 for 4 with 2 homers...
He can still be monitored in Trenton. At this stage it will only be 2 or 3 starts anyways...so it doesnt matter either side of the debate you are on I guess.
Laird, oh my.
"Owning the Yankees," Steinbrenner once said, "is like owning the Mona Lisa."

BTW, is anyone else watching what Melky Mesa has done over the past couple of months? Suddenly, we are looking at a guy who might have a 20 HR 30 SB year and is currently hitting over .260. He's making some serious headway in to realizing that monster talent.
Heathcott 2-4 with a walk
Laird .298-25-92. Career highs in Hr's and RBI.
He's now had 3 great years and one mediocre one. I'd venture to say that Laird is a pretty good hitter.

Yeah, they may not feel it's worth moving him at this point. Excited to see him at Trenton in a full season next year, regardless.Originally Posted by b_joseph

Take a look around at their top ten lists, very few pitchers have this kid's ceiling. BA correctly assigns high-ceiling talents with very high rankings when they realize their potential in High A or higher leagues. Sometimes even low A ball.Originally Posted by kan_t

Scranton & Trenton are both going to the playoffs. Tampa could also, but they have to make up some ground. Wouldn't be surprised if some of the SWB pitchers get called up once the rosters expand. So I would guess some guys will be moving just to fill spots.Originally Posted by Matsui55

While both Scranton and Trenton have plenty of pitching, I bet they wouldn't mind seeing how Betences does in a playoff atmosphere, (even if he was in Tampa and they did make the playoffs, there isn't much of a playoff atmosphere there). There isn't much of anything but two teams, the umpires and a few players girlfriends.

Well, you make sure you get your copy of BA and mark where Dellin ends up on the list, I hope someday you get to make personel decisions for a team outside of New York. I shudder to think what kind of trades you'd make given how quickly you give up on talented kids. You're the epitome of a frontrunning fan, overestimating brand names and underestimating what you have already.Originally Posted by Melan-cynic

You do the same. Bet the ranch he's not in the top 10.Originally Posted by Hughes2.50

Check my post history smart guy. While you were MIA, I spent the trading deadline demanding the Yanks keep Montero out of ANY deal. I also was one of the few voices who was upset Melancon was dealt - hm, maybe my handle might give that away - and Dellin is my favorite Yankees prospect, epitomized by my original sig and profile picture which has been there since I first registered here in 2008. Show me where I've ever said I'd trade him or any other Yankees top prospect on here.
You have no idea what you're talking about, once again, as I'm a guy who greatly values Yankees prospects. Ask anyone in the minors threads - even those who don't always agree with me - and I'm sure they'll back that up. That I'm not absolutely blind in overvaluing them and would trade unproven Knicks like Gallo/Randolph for one of the top 10 players in the planet [Chris Paul] doesn't change that fact one iota.
I'll wait for yet another baseless response.

didnt newman say just the other day that dellin and manny were staying in tampa for the rest of the year?
i think it is possibly they both get fast tracked next year, especially manny. only problem with that is going to be so much pitching in AA and AAA to start the year.
One of sources I think it is RAB said that Banuelos and Betances will not be promoted no matter what. Let Betances stretch some more innings this season. Next year, Betances will go as far as he takes good challenge.
The same reason which allows him to make this leap in judgment is the same reason he'll never understand.Originally Posted by awy

They'll make room for those two. Two of the top three pitchers in your system, at that point, you want to see them get challenged.Originally Posted by mwalvlior

The day that I care about what Jim Callis thinks about Yankee prospects is the day I'll be heading into the nursing home
It really does not matter where BA ranks him (Or even if they rank him at all). The question is will he progress until he is Major League ready in 2012? That is what matters.Originally Posted by flymick24

there are plenty of guys there that arent even close to top 10 prospects, thats a terrible argument

Who is the consensus top player in minor league ball right now? Has he played a full season yet? There are lots of arguments being listed that are weak or even downright awful. How long a player has been playing is a lot less important than whether they are fulfilling their promise.Originally Posted by bmxstreetrider86

But both arguments were provided as evidence that someone's arguments were deficient - 1) Hasn't played a full season yet; and 2) Trout hasn't played yet at Betances proficiency level, and he is already ranked overall #2 in the minors.Originally Posted by bmxstreetrider86

, will find out soon enough how highly he is ranked.

none of this really matters, he isnt going to be top 10 in the minors based on around 100 inning the past 2 years, regardless of how great he is pitching right now, and especially considering he has been hurt ALL THE TIME

Put your money where your mouth is and let's make this interesting regarding Betances being a top 10 prospect next Spring.

Is Betances eligible for the AFL?
he is 3 years younger, but i guess that doesnt really matter that he is more than holding his own as a 19 year old in High A with arguably the most dynamic tools in baseballOriginally Posted by Hughes2.50

there's no way Betances makes top 10 on BA's list, for the same reasons everyone else has said.

look. if betances was scouted as having 2x the stuff of strasburg and 10x the command of maddux. he would be top 10 even if he doesn't throw a single pitch.
but he's not.
so all the short track record arguments apply.

Betances season is reminiscent of the late Nick Adenhart's season after he came back from surgery - except Betances is even more dominant.
Royal Flush: Hughes, Sabathia, Betances, Brackman, Banuelos.
And a pitcher who sits at 93-96 and touches 98, with a sick curve and strong command to go with it - dominating High A with electric stuff like that, gets recognized just as quickly and decisively by professional evaluators.Originally Posted by bmxstreetrider86

dominating high a isn't exactly indicative of top 10 after 100 innings talent.
