What did you think of season 1 now that you've finished it?

Oh I finished it weeks ago. I loved it. Got my sister and two friends to watch too. Couldn't get my wife into it though. Her loss.

Only complaint is I totally knew Rudy was the killer once the copycat guy was proven a fake

hmmm.... if I recall correctly they didn't do much to hide it right after that, right? Wasn't it that very episode when they showed Rudy walk into the freezer? It may have been the next one. Either way Rudy is, so far, the best villain in the show.

Either way, I'm as giddy as you are for this season. Can't wait to see how things are without Rita around, what villain they'll have for Dex, and just how long they can keep going without people finding out about him.

From what I understand the only villain type role this year is gonna be Quinn. Which is fine by me. I'm more interested in seeing Dexter unravel. Michael C Hall is so good at acting insane.

Agreed. As long as they can keep it fresh and not repeat some of the Doakes stuff, that'll be great. Maybe another character like Lila?

Also interested to see what they do with the kids this season

Yeah it's the next one, but even earlier in that episode when Dexter had doubts about that guy being the killer I figured it out just by process of elimination. However I didn't see him being Dexter's biological brother. That was really well done.

See this is what makes Rudy my favorite killer. No one could ever know how to play Dexter like Rudy did and he was just a mastermind.

I kind of wish Rudy would come back to the show and take on a role like Harry. As of now Harry is my favorite "other" character

Finally caught up last night. Season 4 definitely made up for season 3. I'd say season 1 > season 4> season 2 > season 3.

Crazy ending to wrap it up. I really didn't see it coming for some reason (even though I thought she was in trouble most of the season, that feeling had passed by the last episode or two) Makes me glad I didn't watch it earlier and have to wait through a long hiatus. I made that mistake with Breaking Bad and now have to wait an eternity to find out what happens.

I feel that if Deb were ever to get killed, she would have to go out like Hudson in Aliens... cursing up a storm and shooting everything in sight. And somehow, it would end up as amusing rather than shocking.

The thing with Deb is that she's morally upright. Yeah, I know, she goes through boyfriends like there's no tomorrow but she has this thing about right and wrong. The ultimate crisis for her would be to allow Dexter's wrong to remain active because it's right. And you can't kill a character dealing with a crisis like that! (Of course, once it's resolved, all bets are off!)

At the rate they're going I could see it happening. It would be fitting because even though all these people keep saying Dex is good for them, he's actually pretty destructive.

If season 4 did anything, it proved that significant others get in the way. They're always used as bait, or to steer someone off course. Superman, Batman, Annakin Skywalker, Neo.... name any character in any story who has a mission whether being a vigilante, superhero, savior, whatever. Getting involed just doesn't go together with any of these things.

It really is great. As much as I was pulling for the LOST team to take home the Emmys, it's hard to argue with Brian Cranston and Aaron Paul taking home the acting awards.

I'm interested in watching the show, but I haven't has Showtime in a few years, since before Dexter began. Most of my favorites were always on HBO, like The Sopranos and CYE.

Any suggestions to start catching up? Do I have to buy seasons 1-4, is it on the net, or does Showtime have an on demand feature like HBO?

Right now season 4 is on Demand. Last year during season 4 they had all the seasons on Demand. Right now you may need to buy/rent the first 3.

I wonder if anyone else has noticed this little blunder that's been bugging me since season 2.

In season 1, Dexter kept his blood slides in his AC unit, behind a block of something. He always had to take out something else before he got to them. Then, out of nowhere, this mysterious thing that blocked the slides from being seen even if the AC unit was uncovered, disappeared. Was this a hole created so that Doakes would find the slides when he searched Dexter's apartment? It's annoying as hell. I watch random episodes of season 1 when I'm bored because they all kick ass. But this detail drives me crazy.
