Should we keep the Political Soapbox for discussion of current events and issues of the day? I know the decision has been made, but let's let democracy have it's day.
Have at it.

Although I never much posted there I did read it regularly. I learned a thing or two from it.

I rarely ever went in there but I think it should be allowed to continue. No matter how explosive political conversations can be I see no reason why there shouldn't be a place for it.

Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes. No question, in my mind. Beneath some of that sniping, there was actually good discussion.
Some moderation could easily resolve a lot of the issues that were going on in there.

Those who can — do. Those who can’t — criticize.
Politics arent my thing and its not something I come to this board to discuss. With that said, I have no problems with having a seperate area for those who wish to talk about them.
Also I think by keeping them seperate from the rest of the board, we wont see those types of threads start to intrude other parts of the board (JC) and annoy those of us who have no desire to have to wade thru those threads.

It was nice to have it in one spot that was out of the way of the main board. I know they said that politics will be banned from conversations/threads here but thats gonna be almost impossible to do. It's also a bigger workload for the mod team to not have the PS where all that stuff can be in one general area instead of scattered around the board (which WILL happen)

Cute, but I have no reason to buy that at all. We just need to wait until the day a mod gets tired of JC. Or when SNY thinks it's a waste of space.Originally Posted by Tifoso

I generally tend to agree with and side with the moderators of the site, in this case I have to disagree. I dont think removing it was the right move, and strongly urge them to reconsider the "Maynerd Solution".
I can definately see JC becoming the Politics Light Forum, and that resulting in suspensions and bannings that should have happened in the PS in the first place.
I respect your decision and understand that it was a long road to get here, but strenously object to the closing of the PS with solid options on the table.

They very well CAN close the conversation portions of this site. You know it, we all know it. Just because you haven't discussed it yet, and the current group of mods dont feel it will ever happen, doesn't act as a protection against such an event.
So while we can all take you at your word that it hasn't come up, and you're not thinking about it... they have a right to be at least a little worried.

I get that they had decided some time ago, but up until then they've tried a lot of things. Different mods, different rules, one thread -- and none of it worked for them permanently. I tell you right now, the "Maynerd Solution" would have only lasted a while too - ultimately he'd have gotten sick of it too.Originally Posted by NYYDragoon
You have to react to that change though, you've got to prepare for folks burning out on the most challenging parts of the job, and bring in new blood. After Maynerd maybe it would be someone else's turn, and let them handle it.
I'd rather not speculate or comment on why they didn't go this route, just voice my opinion that i disagree.

Just wait until SNY really gets a hold of things. I'm sure it'll make a lot of people happy to know that I may not be around these parts much longer (no not an attempt at attention, just a statement of fact).

For all those who you who suggested me as an alternative to the eventual decision, thanks. The confidence you all seem to have in me to make a difference is kinda humbling.Originally Posted by Bozidar

What's done is done. There's another place to discuss politics, and this remains an outstanding site for all its other functions. Time to move along.
