Could Jamie Moyer win 300 games

This seems ridiculous, but hey...stranger things have happened. He's at 265 wins right now, 35 away from 300. If he only wins 5 more games the rest of the season, he'd finish the year 30 wins away from 300 at age 47.

Is it conceivable that Jamie Moyer could pitch until age 50, win an average of 10 games a year and crack the mythical number?

I vote No. 30 wins are still lots of wins. And pitchers can lose their stuff as quick as they can in that age. He may not even get 5 wins next year.

Historically, how much does a pitcher's FB velo drop between age 47 and 50?

Who would have thought he could win 42 games over his 44, 45 and 46 age years? He's doing it again at 47. Yeah, its possible. Kinda mind boggling.

Maybe if he pitches all the rest of his games against the Yankees.

not chance i'd put the odds at less than 25% he even pitches next year.

You don't need to lose you fastball velocity to suck at that age. Take a look at this year Hoffman. He doesn't lose his fastball and he suddenly gets killed by the hitters.

He's gonna need a better bullpen, but I will say yes.

I voted no, but I wouldn't go as far as the way the choice is worded. I don't think it's ridiculous and I wouldn't be stunned if he gets there, but I think he'll probably he'll fall short.

Re: Could Jamie Moyer win 300 games

He's got about an 87 ERA+ over his last 260 MLB innings and will be 48 next year. I'd be surprised if he's pitching for someone next year, let alone 3 years form now.

I think his goal is to hang around until he passes Cy Young.

Worse pitchers have gotten contracts. Look at Livan Hernandez. His last season with an ERA+ over 100 was 2005. He's made 6 stops since then with pretty bad numbers, putting up an ERA+ of 80 or worse for 5 different teams yet he gets signed every year.

As crazy as it is, I think if Moyer wants it he can do it. Just depends though if he's willing to take the minimum and pitch for teams that might not have a chance to win big. I doubt the Phillies are going to want him back next year, but lots of teams need one more pitcher.

Re: Could Jamie Moyer win 300 games

Even when he was in his 20's, I don't Moyer ever hit 85 on the radar. IMO, that's why he's been able to hang around this long. He really didn't have to adjust to less velocity. However, as much as I'd like to see him reach 300, I seriously doubt it.

Voted no, just because of the low probability of this happening. Would love to see it though

No, but I have a great deal of respect for what he has accomplished.

If he did, he'd be the first 300 game winner not elected to the hall of fame.

he's there 4th or 5th starter, no way he can get enough starts. he'd have to play a minimum of 2 more seasons.

at some point he'll call it a career
