Any interest in an iPhone/Droid/webOS format?

Hitting the forum on my iPod tonight... Painful, to say the least. How many of you currently use the forum on your smartphone? How many of you WOULD hit the forum on your smartphone if it were less painful?

I visit the forums on my phone anyway, but yes, an iPhone-formatted page would be much better.

Someone actually started a thread about this awhile back. Apparently there's a service you can use which does it automatically?

When traveling I will visit the forum on my i-phone and I can say doing it through the browser can be challenging.

I would definitely use it on the Droid..thing is, I hate this thing so much, I may be switching. but would be getting some sort of smart phone, so yes!

This would be fantastic. Particularly for those many days (particularly weekends) when we might be away from the computer.

I was at a HS football game and tried logging in on my daughter's iPhone. Pretty difficult.

I agree... even the mobile-formatted templates don't work so well... they were implemented before phones had full browsers.

Seems like an interesting idea.... but I'd rather provide good mobile formatting than allow a 3P app like that. Plus I assume they'd run their ads, at the exclusion of ours. Then there's the all-important metrics issue...

If you go the actual app route and you'd prefer not to get into Objective C, then you can use Titanium. It allows you to write iPhone and Droid apps using Javascript which then gets put through the Titanium interpreter to create native Objective C and Java.

It also will be porting to the iPad soon.

I thought Apple was putting the kabosh on porting interpreted code like that? Or was that just for Adobe?

I'm thinking something along the lines of TechCrunch.com's mobile format, or Yahoo, or ESPN. Check all of them out on your iPhone.

That said, if there's a lot of interest in a native iPhone app, I am willing to look into it.

Those are fine, but I'm not gonna lie - an app would be cool.

However, since the browsers on these phones is pretty great to begin with, it's not really a chore or anything looking at the site on them.

Man where has this thread been for the past couple of years. I read NYYfans on my blackberry bold and IT SUCKS!! Putting in a reply scrolls off the page so if you accidentally go outside the text box it takes 5 minutes to move the trackball over. Sometimes only half the page will load, and it's a pain to get the zoom to fit the text just right.

Conclusion #1: Blackberry sucks big giant donkey balls and I can't wait to get an Android 2.2 phone

Conclusion #2: PLEASE OH PLEASE make a smartphone friendly viewing option on the site

On a related note, I downloaded the Yankees News Pro widget for Android today (not sure if is in other formats). Not sure if I am keeping it or if there are better ones, but it seems to do the job nicely

It's a little rough around the edges, but I'm going to be updating the forum software in the near future, and I'll make a slick touch-friendly style then

Okay - the Touchscreen style is live. You can select it at the bottom left of the page, or if you're on an iPhone there will be a link at the top of the page.

Disclaimer: by using this style you'll be helping me test out functionality, features, etc. I will be upgrading the forum software in the near future and will have to recreate all of the styles, this one included. So let me know what you like, don't like, etc.

Tried it on my BB. The dropdown for style chooser didn't fire off an event and change to the new style. Tried fooling around, but much like other areas of my life, no dice.

Also, makes more sense for this to appear at the top so you don't have to scroll down past the entire verbose version of the forums in order to choose the smart phone friendly version.

That's my $.02, and I expect change back.
