This year, doing well in the U.S. Open Cup, but struggling in the MLS and that's despite having both Freddies: former Arsenal star Freddie Ljungberg and Freddy Montero.

Hopefully, my local MLS club, the San Jose Earthquakes can continue their run towards an MLS playoff berth. The defense has been the reason why for this turnaround.
However, don't count out the Houston Dynamo and Chicago Fire.
The Earthquakes and New York Red Bulls have been the biggest surprises in the MLS so far this season.

Defense is prone to mistakes, as is Keller lately, the heart of the midfield (Alonso) got hurt, and the offense is struggling to score. Put that all together, and you've got a pretty bad season so far.Originally Posted by BroadwayBomber55

Format: This seasons' format consists of 3 rounds plus knockout stages. In the first round only second division teams play. All 16 teams are allocated into 4 groups of 4 teams each. In the second round, teams that qualified from previous round are joined by the two Liga Sagres promoted teams and also the 6 worst in the top league in the previous season. There will be two-legged fixtures in which the winners will advance. The third round is where the remaining top 8 teams from previous season first division enter the competition.
