Thread: 2010 Staten Island Yankees

    2010 Staten Island Yankees

The 2010 Staten Island Yankees season is only a few weeks away and I have some news. I will be back for this season, though in an abbreviated role with Gotham Baseball and Baseball Digest.

So with that said I am wanting to know what type of coverage do you guys want of the team. Do you want game recaps or more features on players etc. This year's team looks to be just as exciting as last years.

JR Murphy is expected to join the team from Charleston, Slade Heathcott and other young prospects are set to come up from EST.

Why have Murp move down to SI if he is doing so well with the River Dogs?

  3. #3

    Re: 2010 Staten Island Yankees

Because he is NOT doing all that well in Charleston. He is batting .226

I know SSS, but .226 isn't "doing so well"

    Re: 2010 Staten Island Yankees

The word is the Yankees only sent JR to Charleston to get used to playing in front of crowds and under the lights before he heads to Staten Island. Which is understandable as the competition is the same but the atmosphere is completely different especially with the rivalry.

    rpimpsner,
Any advance about how the rosters will look?

I expect to see De Leon, Sosa, Ureņa, Flores and Toussen there.

But besides Turley, I don't know which pitchers will be assigned to SI.

Probably Richardson, Cotham, Brooks, O'Brien, and Barreda

Cotham or Brooks could get promoted very soon though

    Re: 2010 Staten Island Yankees

I am expecting Richardson, O'Brien, Turley, Murphy, Heathcott, Barreda, De Leon, Sosa to be in Staten Island. I am going to sit down this weekend to see who could be slated for Staten Island. I am also expecting Andy Shive who is coming back from Tommy John surgery, he pitches tomorrow in a game in EST.

When you guys see Shive this year you will notice he is thinner. He has been working on losing weight this past year.

Why would Barreda be in S.I.? He was at Tampa last year.

He was in the GCL last year with two appearances for the RiverDogs in the SAL. He hasn't pitched for the FSL Tampa Yankees yet.

What was his high weight in the past? He was a huge guy, and I don't necessarily mean in the height sense............

Always loveto see game recaps, especially a few notes on who did what; stuff that does not show up in the box score.

You features on specific players was always a good read also. Looking forward to seeing them again in 2010.

Good to have you back. Let us know when stuff is posted, and where.

Shive is 6-6 and was 245lbs according to Baseball Cube, I believe he was a little bigger like 260. I believe he is around 220-230 now.

I would bet he was at least 260. And on him, it looked it. Glad to hear he has slimmed down a bit. A guy his size should have no problem carrying 230.

Don't forget that there will probably be a high draft pick or 2 on the team also.

    Re: 2010 Staten Island Yankees

Rumor has it that Slade Heathcott is in Charleston getting ready to join the team for the next couple weeks prior to the SI season getting started. Does anyone know if there is any truth to that?

    Re: 2010 Staten Island Yankees

He is listed on the Charleston roster so I would believe so.

Yep the transactions page says that he was just added to the roster today in place of Justin Milo who was placed on the 7-day DL.

    Re: 2010 Staten Island Yankees

It would be good for these guys to get experience in front of crowds and under the lights before joining Staten Island. Like I said the on the field competition is basically at the same level as the NY-Penn League but playing in front of 8,000-10,000 people in NYC is another.

    Re: 2010 Staten Island Yankees

I plan on getting a new camera in a week or two to take some great photos and videos of the Staten Island Yankees and the rest of the NY-Penn League. I will be posting in the BaseballDigest.com Bleacher Forums with news on the games and doing updates via Twitter during the season.

Monday you will be able check out my season preview with my prediction of players who could be Staten Island bound from EST etc. That will be in the BaseballDigest.com Bleacher Forums and will discuss it there.

Here is the link to the Forum.
    http://www.baseballdigest.com/forum/...d6ad4153b1be62

I am working on possibly getting a photo gallery up on BaseballDigest.com but until then you can check them out at the BaseballDigest.com facebook page
    http://www.facebook.com/pages/Baseba...t/102447605276

Also let me know what type of updates you guys want from the games. My plan is to do more feature type articles this year and less game stuff. But I want your feed back.

Mark Newman got in trouble with his DUI, but I'm not so sure Daneker will survive this incident.

    Re: 2010 Staten Island Yankees

Which of the OFers is likely to sit most? I have a feeling that it will be Golson, but I sure hope not.

Angelini will not be there? Is Checo a reliever? Shane Greene and Richard Martinez are two relievers that could be there. Is there any reason for not making this projection or is it just saving roster spots? Andy Shive could rehab there, correct? And finally, is Kyle Perkins bound to the GCL?

Sorry for so many questions. Thank you for whatever answers you know.

    Re: 2010 Staten Island Yankees

Flores, Sosa, De Leon, Toussen, Mojica will be on the SI roster; The only guys from the DSL will be Carlos Urena and Luis Parache; The rest will make their US debuts in the GCL.

Turley, O'Brien, Barreda are headed to SI too; Gerritse, Checo are set to repeat the GCL.

  35. #35

    Re: 2010 Staten Island Yankees

Why did Barreda get bumped back to SI? Was he injured again? last year he was with Charleston.

NEW YANKEE, COTTON, READY TO START PRO CAREER

Earlier this week it was announced that the New York Yankees signed right-handed pitcher Brant Cotton as a non-drafted free agent out of Saint Louis University. The 6 foot 2 inch right-handed pitcher spent two seasons with the Billikens after transferring from Butler County Community College. He struck out 151 batters and posted a career 4.46 ERA with the Billikens with 14 wins including tying the school record of nine this past season.

Carmen Angelini is nowhere to be found on any roster. I wonder if he'll be among the post draft cuts we always see.
