Is it such a loss for Villa ? If I remember rightly ,Martin has been given a fair amount of money to spend in recent times and the club has little to show for it.Originally Posted by BroadwayBomber55

First of all . congrats on being able to make something out of the Championship . For what it's worth , this league looks to me to be pretty weak - much the same as last year - as a whole . Imho , the winner is anyone's guess at this stage.Originally Posted by BroadwayBomber55
As for League 1, I saw Huddersfield play on two or three occasions last season and they impressed each time , so I'm with you on them doing well this season.
As for Div 2 , no London teams in this division ( ok , Barnet may just qualify , just) ,so I'll being paying little attention for the time being.

I really doubt a club could have 96 points without having a better GD than +42. The last champion to have a GD of +42 or worse was Manchester United in 2002-2003, and they had 83 points. The champion doesn't have to have the best GD (you didn't say if you think that will happen), but the last season no club had a GD better than +42 was 1996-1997.

"Don't Give Up...Don't Ever Give Up." - Jimmy Valvano
One must know pain to be a hero.
EPL FT Scores: August 15, 2010
Well, it wasn't the start Roy Hodgson was looking for in his first EPL game as Liverpool manager.
Liverpool had a heartbreaking 1-1 draw against Arsenal in Anfield.
Joe Cole was sent off in his Liverpool debut for a reckless lunge on Laurent Koscielny at halftime.
David Ngog drew first blood for Liverpool one minute into the second half.
However, Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina made a howler from an Arsenal corner in the 90th minute when Tomas Rosicky delivered a corner, Marouane Chamakh bumped into him and Reina inadvertently scores an own goal.

One must know pain to be a hero.

The abiding memory I shall take with me from this first weekend of EPL action is the fact that the standard of goalkeeping was so woeful. You could justifiably claim that, Reina (Liverpool), Almunia (Arsenal), Howard (Everton), Kirkland (Wigan) and Carson (West Brom) all cost their team points with their respective "misadventures", although it would be hard to blame Carson for all SIX of the Chelsea goals!
The above being the case, take a bow, Joe Hart (Manchester City), who made at least four world class saves in the first half against Tottenham yesterday, a performance which gained the lad a richly deserved "Man Of The Match" award.

Take a bow David Stockdale too, Nash. He never put a foot wrong yesterday and very much hinted that Fulham already has a replacement for Schwarzer should Mark get his wish - a move to Arsenal.Originally Posted by Nashwan

But not Scott Carson. West Bromwich Albion needed a prayer against Chelsea.
Joe Hart and as Humph said, David Stockdale were deserving Man of the Matches this week.

I can't voice an opinion on David Stockdale, as I haven't even read a report of Fulham's match, but I am happy, as always, to accept Humph's erudite opinion.Originally Posted by BroadwayBomber55

Nice to know that FFC has a ready made replacement for Schwarzer, Humph, although I am not totally convinced that he will end up at Arsenal. Rumour has it that Wenger would like to get his hands on Shay Given (Manchester City), but City are not willing to part with their "stars" to domestic opposition! To be fair, though, I would take take Schwarzer over Given because I think he is a better all round goalkeeper. This week should see a resolution because after Almunia's "performance" at Anfield this afternoon, Arsenal might as well forget their title ambitions for this year if they decide keep the pillock between the sticks again this season.Originally Posted by Humph
Hope you are keeping well, old lad. Weather has turned to sh*t over here, just in time for the height of summer. Well, what can you do, other than keep taking the pills?![]()
