Ha, I'm sure the Rangers and the Ducks at least had some conversation about swapping the two if a deal couldn't be reached on each side but I'm also pretty sure that was purely coincidental.

Slats befuddles me. He handles trades well, hes dealt with almost all of his RFA's perfectly but he'll pay out of the ass for Wade Redden, who was basically the defenseman version of what Chris Drury is now when he was a UFA?

Anyway, we're building a pretty decent core that will only get stronger in the next few years. If Slats reads this board, he'll have this team contending in 3 years

My friend works for MSG Network. I should give him a letter to get to Dolan telling him to hire you as Slats replacement (or at least as the brains behind the Messier operation).

Re: Lets Go Rangers! 2010-2011 season thread

The Rangers Prospects closed out the Traverse City tournament with a 7-2 win over Dallas to grab 5th place in the Tournament.

Derek Stepan had a 3 point game and finished with 7 points in 4 games. Going off of the reports, he was even better than his production showed. Grachev also had a strong showing with 4 goals and an assist in 4 games.

Gordie Clark said that the pairing of McDonagh and McIlrath was bar none the best top pair in the tournament. McIlrath was on the ice against fellow 2010 first round pick Jeff Skinner (7th overall to Carolina) and completely shut him down. Skinner has 6 points in the tournament and also put up 70 goals in the OHL last year, both regular season and playoffs combined. Perhaps Clark and Co. know what they're doing (I can't wait to see the meltdown when Fowler cracks the Ducks lineup this year.)

I'll say it now, I am 150% against forcing Stepan and Grachev into the line up to start the year unless they completely dominate during the pre season. Let these two get more comfortable with each other in Hartford until at least December and if they're tearing it up down there, then go ahead and call them up together.

Staal for 5 years is a load off the mind...now just ease him into PP time so he can allow his full game to develop.

I dont mind if Stepan and Grachev crack in together...We are not going anywhere so seeing if guys can tread water a little bit would be interesting.

As long as they prove they're ready for the show I'm all for it.

I think Steps is closer than Grachev despite not having a year of pro experience. You can't teach vision and the level of hockey sense that he has.

Assuming Stepan stays on track, and stays healthy, in terms of skills what current NHL player could you compare him to?
Glad to hear about McIlrath and McDonagh. Think they will both be a big part of the Rangers' future defense corps.
I'm a lot more hopeful about the team's future than it's present, but i still wouldn't put it past Sather to screw things up.
We do not see things as they are. We see them as we are.

Current? A better version of Joe Pavelski. His shot will come along and he sees the ice incredibly well. Clark went as far as to compare his vision to Craig Janney (who was an excellent player before health problems got in the way) and Adam Oates, who obviously needs no explanation. I think Oates is a crazy optimistic projection, but I will say that he just makes plays that you don't see very often. Hes got a pretty slick pair of hands too so if he can improve his shot to an above average level, 20-25 goals on top of 40-50 assists is a pretty fair estimation.

I said it before, McIlrath completely shut down Jeff Skinner who tied with Stepan for the tournament lead in points and I'm pretty sure he led the tournaments in shots on goal (he managed just 2 against the Rangers.) For me its all a matter of how the offense comes around. If he can turn into a 15 goal 35-40 point defenseman on top of everything else he already does, then the pick is a hit (unless Fowler becomes the next Leetch, which is as likely as Stepan becoming the next Oates.) If he offense doesn't come around, he better become the best defensive defenseman in the league.

I like the fact that we can conceivably ice an entire home grown defense if we want to or add one more guy to the 5 we'll eventually have out there to put the group over the top (Suter 2012!)

Nice job locking up Staal. Very reasonable deal. As was stated before, why can Sather be smart when it comes to signing his own RFA's, trades but he completely f*cks up the UFA market?

Agreed. I really liked that jersey, and I wish it would come back. Not in love with this new one.

No need for a 3rd jersey IMO. Plus this one is just a rip off of their regular jerseys.

I didn't like the liberty ones (Too dark IMO) but I really like the new 3rds. They're simple and I like the color scheme.

I may actually buy one of these new ones. Just gotta find out whose name to put on the back.

It's for the 85th season. In fact there's a 85th season anniversary patch on the right shoulder.
