Your 5 favorite & least favorite MLB uniforms

Stole this idea from a football board. Your favorite team, presumably the Yankees, but whoever it is, is excluded.

My top 5:
Orioles - My favorite non-Yankee uniforms. Very sharp, and orange is my favorite color.

Mariners - Always liked these since I was a kid, simple and the colors stand out.

Royals - Simple, classic, sharp

Marlins - Simple, bold colors, and I think they pull off the pinstripes well. One thing I like about both the M's on my top five is the silver outline on lettering.

Braves - A very sharp color contrast, and I especially like their alternate hats - the classic A, crossed with the tomahawk.


My bottom 5, for various reasons:
Rays - Theirs have always been terrible, but the new version are the most bland uni's around.

Diamondbacks - The new colors - red/black - already used by lots of teams, and theirs don't stand out - also think the letters are way too big on the front.

Rangers - I don't like that it says "Texas" on their home and away uniforms now. That and the pointy numbers and letters gets them in my bottom five. I also don't like the sleeveless alternates with just the T.

Padres - Sand-colored road uni's instead of traditional gray - big swing and a miss for me. I think they are hideous.

Twins - They wouldn't be here if they didn't change them in '10, I don't like the new look.

the White Sox w/ the big collars and shorts...

Favorites:
Cardinals- All they need to do is put "St. Louis" on the roads to have a perfect uniform.
Phillies- Phils are my second favorite team.
Mariners- Teal and black.. great combo. <333
Giants- The cream home uniform is fantastic. Orange and black goes very well together.
Braves- I love their set, excluding the alts.


Leasts:
Brewers- I do not like the cap logo, at all.
Nationals- IMO the blue road uniforms are much better than the red home set.
Rays- The cap logo is bland and the roads should be "Tampa Bay" rather than "Rays".
Diamondbacks- WAY too similar to the Astros.
Jays- They are the Blue Jays, not the Black Jays.

Honorable Mentions:
Montreal Expos. <333
Minnesota Twins. I loved their pinstriped road uniform and was sad to see it go. However, their new uniforms aren't too shabby.

The Mets in '86 looked pretty good also, but not an all-time classic.

I like traditional, classic uniforms. I abhor dark colored jerseys. They should never be worn after spring training ends.

Favorites: Dodgers (home), Tigers (home), Cubs (road), Reds (home), Giants (home)

The Dodgers is classic just like the Yankees. Same for Tigers and Giants. The Reds home jersey style isn't that old so it could hardly be called traditional, but I think they really did a good job with them and they could be traditional eventually (if they stick with them). I'm a die hard anti-Cubs fan, but I like the blue "Chicago" on the gray jerseys with the red numbers.

Least favorites: Padres (road), Nationals (home), Blue Jays (home), Rays (both), Diamondbacks (home)

The Padres and Nationals both have font problems. The Blue Jays' original uniforms were much, much, much better than whatever they call what they wear these days. The Rays uniforms are much improved over some that they wore in their last-place days, but they also have a font (and nickname) problem. If the Diamondbacks nickname is "Diamondbacks" don't put "D-Backs" on the freakin' uniforms. Shortened names, weird fonts, strange logos, bad colors all contribute to non-traditional, unappealing uniforms in my book.

I have a major soft spot for the cheesy Astros uniforms with the rainbows across the chest. Like the Mariners and Royals. And, of course, the pinstripes.

Hate any and all Diamondbacks and current Padres uniforms, especially the awful camo. I know it's for the military in San Diego. I still hate it. The Giants have a nice cream-colored home uniform and a TERRIBLE orange one.

-The Giants' colors combined w/ their warm, offwhite uniforms are cool...(as Norge and she-snark mentioned above)
-Also, I like the Phillies blue/red/white uniform. Reminds me of RBI Baseball for Nintendo back in the day.
-I enjoy the new Twins uniform. "boss," as my pragmatics professor would say.

Lots of support for the Phils alternates...I don't like those myself. Looks odd without the red pinstripes.

I think the Rockies color scheme is pretty good. Again, the silver outling looks good on most everyone.

Agree on the shortened names also! "D-Backs" (especially since the lettering is SO big) and "Jays"

Best alternates, in my opinion are the dark blue ones...Seattle, Atlanta, Washington. Bright red...Angels, Red Sox, Nats (you know you have too many uniforms when) a little much.

Not a big fan of the sleeveless jersey. I think the Angels' is the worst one.

I usually don't care too much about unis one way or the other, but my father in law just got back from a trip to VA/Baltimore, and picked up a Matusz jersey.

Holy crap, those colors are pretty freaking sweet. Again, I normally just tune them out, but seeing one up close...man, I'm not gonna lie, I'll be wearing that shirt out and about over the summer. Talk about cognitive dissonance.

i always thought the sleeveless alternatives should be adopted by the Yankees, and that they could roll those out on special observance days...

the pirates, reds, etc all the teams that use the alt sleeveless are pretty bad-ass in my book. that's timeless stuff.

The worst uniforms, hands down, are the Blue Jays' throwbacks where the jerseys and pants are light blue. They look like pajamas. I'm also not a huge fan of the A's green and yellow.
As for the best ones, I'll go with Yankees, Cubs, Mets, Cardinals, Orioles.

All of those powder blue uni's were awful, and it seemed like everyone wore them in the 70s/80s. Glad I wasn't around for those eyesores.

I don't mind the Pad's camo, just hate their away colors.

I love the old Astros uniforms, I don't know why. I also loved the powered blue Blue Jays and Royals uniforms. I liked the Expos uni's as well.

The WS uniforms with the shorts and collared shirts were clearly the worst, and the Padres camo's. Diamondbacks were ugly as hell too.

Agree 100%.

Baseball's traditions make most all of the uniforms tolerable. The 70s-80s was a rough stretch, but that's true of almost everything.

So it's hard to say 5 teams have the absolute best uniforms. There are plenty of good ones: Simple, classy, traditional, etc. Lots of teams fit that bill.

The bad ones are usually the teams who switch them up too often because they can't find an identity. The Rays and Jays come to mind. The pre-93 White Sox too (it AMAZES me that the Uni Watch people think the Sox need a change when they finally have some continuity for the first time ever). Even the bad ones aren't hideous anymore. The Nats made some odd color choices, the Twins' new set is a bit too much like the Nats, the DBacks is too modern and commonly colored, and the Rays are too boring... but none of those are actually UGLY. Hell, the red/black is a HUGE upgrade for the DBacks. The Brewers had better logos before (including the glove, obviously) but the new one, while inferior, isn't offensive.

Obviously any team that wears the BP pajama jerseys loses points. But that's everyone other than the Yankees and Dodgers now, right?

So the Yankees and Dodgers win.

My least favorites:
- Cubs. Just cause I hate them.
- Marlins. I liked the teal better than the black and have always been mad when they joined the herd and went black.
- Mets. Too many variations. Stupid batting helmets.
- Nats. Too many red/blue and font inconsistencies.
- Astros. Too many colors, pinstripes look odd to me. I liked them better before they added all that red back in.
- Rays. Finally settled on a good one (dark green) then they changed it and went boring and unoriginal.
- Jays. Really not even that bad, but they make too many changes every year, and black/grey makes no goddamn sense. They eliminated as much of the word "blue" as possible because it's the color of Rogers' main competitor, which is pretty much the stupidest thing ever.
- Rangers. Only for the typography reasons pointed out above.


Top to bottom I think the AL Central wins. There's nothing really bad about any of the 5 sets in that division.

I always liked the Mariners uniforms. They were one of the first teams I remember to change to a new look, and it made me a fan ever since.

I don't know about five, but I love the black and orange Mets uniforms.

Best:

Chicago Cubs - I like the colors, and its the only other non-NYY home pinstriped jersey I like.

Kansas City Royals - I really like their powder blue unis, but don't care for the full power blue cap that goes along with the jersey.

Atlanta Braves - I feel the color combo is just right for their uniforms...don't know why.

St. Louis Cardinals - Their uniform logo is one of the best in baseball.

Montreal Expos - Obviously not around anymore, but I always liked their logo, colors, and style of their uniforms when I was growing up.

Worst:

Pittsburgh Pirates - I think their away uniform looks terrible. The gray and yellow just doesn't do it for me.

Boston Red Sox - No explanation needed, and their decision to revert back to navy ornamentation on the road jerseys I guess was just to sell more jerseys.

San Francisco Giants - I always thought their off-white jerseys were weird. Like if they weren't properly washed, or someone forgot to add bleach.
