Beckett is a massive douche. With his reputation, he goes up and in and hits a guy in the elbow, then drills their best player in the knee, and he gets bent when the opposition retaliates? I was hoping Duncan was going to thump him AND Lackey who came jumping into the fray there.

Beckett... teaching the world to play the game the right way.

i was begging for shelley to destroy beckett. beckett might be the most unlikeable player in the majors. he hits two guys, the indians retaliate by throwing behind two sox, not hitting them, and beckett's got a beef. he's such a colossal douchebag.

When healthy (and that can't be emphasized enough) Beckett is a great pitcher, but there isn't a player out there I dislike more. "Play the game the right way". Yeah Joshie, look in the mirror before you start preaching that crap.

Looks like Joshie's off his meds again. Maybe he needs to spend more time in his special place.

Wonder what Yankee Bob will do in response to his beanings and subsequent tantrum on the field during the brawl?

In light of 2003 and 2007, I can understand the Beckett hate. I thought he looked great last night. I loved the quick strike out after the homer and the fact that he was in the middle of the scrum. And I suspect that if the Yankee starter was in exactly the same position, and making a lot of noise, that the same Yankees fans who are killing Beckett would have loved how their player was a team guy etc.

Are you serious? After a Red Sox player took out the Indian franchise two nights ago, if anything, you'd think the Indians would be the ones throwing at the Sox. Instead we have Beckett hitting 2-3 Indians before the Indians decided it was time to do something. The fact that Beckett took exception to this, when it was all his fault is comical at best.

All I care about is how Beckett pitches and quite frankly, in times past when he's come unglued he's pitched like crap afterwards.I prefer him to remain clam and focused--plus he doesn't look like an ass clown.

I don't think the Indians would have any reason to be upset with Boston. Kalish's play was extremely clean.

I understand the Beckett hate independent of 03 and 07. The guy is clearly an asshole.

On another note, it was fun seeing Francona get so riled up last night. Not every day you see him shouting f-bombs at the opposing team.

While it may have been clean, if I'd predict that one team would seemingly be throwing at the other before the game, I'd think the Indians would be throwing at the Sox.

Being a punk has nothing to do with him being good against the Yankees in those 2 years. There have been many Sox players that have had success against the Yanks that I have nothing against. Acting like a punk has nothing to do with 2003 or 2007.

Beckett is clearly a jerk, but what was odd about last night is how furious Tito got. Given that the 3B coach for the Tribe was thrown out, and that Tito - a pretty mild-mannered guy almost all the time - was so furious, I wondered if the 3B coach had said something to Beckett. Tito has said before that he thinks coaches generally should not be throwing gas on these kinds of fires.

Alternatively, Tito may have been upset that they threw behind Beltre after throwing behing Ortiz (the last batter of the previous inning) on the theory that it should have been over then.

    Right?

It's not even like the Indians struck first. He hit three of them before they finally threw behind a Sox player!

    Bullsh*t.

This is nothing new with this guy. We've seen it before. He acts like he can do what he wants with impunity, and goes ballistic when someone else dares to do the same.

We can pull animatied gifs of him calling players the "c" word, him throwing at batter's heads when he gets upset, etc....

I know plenty of fans who would have no problem calling out a Yankee player who acts like this consistently. But there aren't any on the team.

Soooo predictable. I'm pretty much against our pitchers throwing at guys knees in general. But you go ahead and cheer on your boy as he drills people left and right and then gets all fiesty when the opposition protects their players.

Josh Beckett hits people in the knees the right way.

Always funny to hear how much Beckett owns the Yankees, and then when its brought up how many times they've owned him, they always reference 2003. it's been about that time since he's pitched well against the yankees

And I suspect that if the Yankee starter was in exactly the same position, and making a lot of noise, that the same Yankees fans who are killing Beckett would have loved how their player was a team guy etc.
Beckett isn't a good enough pitcher to get riled up over. He is however, a big enough douche.

Nobody here hates Lester although he is light years ahead of Beckett as a pitcher.

Try tapping on that thing between your ears a few times with a hammer to wake it up.

    Excellent post.

Any idea that Yankee fans hate a thoroughly detestable personality like Josh Beckett due to his pitching ability is completely nuts. The man is a piece of trash.

Indeed, according to a source familiar with the negotiations, the Sox, Rangers and Yankees had nearly agreed upon a three-way deal that would have had Lowell going to New York, Jarrod Saltalamacchia heading to Boston and prospects going to the Rangers. In that scenario, the Sox would have paid all of Lowell's salary except for the major league minimum for the rest of the year.
The framework of that deal, according to multiple industry sources, was all but settled upon by the teams before the Yankees nixed it on the basis of Lowell's medicals on July 30.
I can't believe the Red Sox were willing to do this.

I was thinking that as well. He's normally big, but he looks downright obese there.

If they got to keep Mendez... sure. We'd probably have to deal Ramirez and Lyerly to combat the Sox package.

The Red Sox do have quite the battle for the wild card seeing as they have to overcome either the Rays or the Yankees in the next 2 months.
