    Ortiz, April 2010: .143/.238/.286/.524
    Ortiz, May 2010: .363/.424/.788/1.211

His and Pedroia's stats are much better on the road than at home too. Can't predict baseball, I guess.

It's much easier to explain by saying that the eye drops and milk shakes arrived.

Of course, that begs the question as to why he didn't start using them one month earlier...

But why ruin a good conspiracy theory?

If I was into good conspiracy theories I'd say the eye drops and milksahkes arrived shortly after his last random test.

Who knows if he's still roiding up, but he certainly did have a great May whatever the reason.

I don't think he is. He had a great 2nd half last year and got off to another terrible start this year. I don't think he's roiding any more than I think Tex is rioding for the Yanks. But I'm pretty sure there was a time he was roiding as hard as A-riod.

I'm inclined to agree with this, but he could still be cheating in some way or another (HGH, masking agents, etc.). I don't think he is, but there's no way of knowing for sure.

I'm more inclined to think he made an adjustment, probably with his hands, of some kind because when I saw him in April his bat speed just looked gone and he was purely a mistake hitter at that point.

It's not a conspiracy theory, Tommy, only David Ortiz would be drinking the milkshakes and lying about it.

In your opinion, what kind of adjustment increases bat speed? I would think the difference between being late on 86mph fastballs and turning on 95mph heat is more than a mechanical adjustment.

His fast-twitch muscles seemed to have gotten twitchier.

But, as stated, let's see if it continues.

do they have to beep out every interview with that team or what?

This two-day break for Pedroia will be welcomed, but he's not about to make any excuses for his lack of offensive output of late. It's a long season and he knows, as the rest of the Red Sox do, that come September his numbers will be exactly where they need to be.

"I can guarantee you that I won't end the year hitting .260 or whatever the [expletive] I'm hitting now," he said after Friday's loss. "I can guarantee you that. I don't guarantee a lot, but that's for damn sure."

how great would it be if he finishes below .260.

I wonder if Scutaro or Cameron were around when he was making his guarantees. Scutaro - lifetime .265 hitter, Cameron - .250. If I were them, I'd take offense...

Speaking of getting knocked out, how'd the 2009 ALDS work out for you there, Pappy?

I guess there's no three knockdown rule in this fight, because A-Rod alone has sent him to the canvas 3 times.

Well Bronson's, I think you are pandering now. I don't think you will find me gloating after a win against the A's, and I simply continued a back and forth I started before the game started. The Yankees won last night too. I also came in after the Yankees kicked our asses in the first two games of both 3 games series played thus far this year and congratulated the Yankee fans and said the Red Sox were embarrassingly outplayed.

That said, again I hate to ruin a good conspiracy theory, so if that's what you think...knock yourself out.

Sure it is. At the very least, it's baiting. You're clearly bothered by those fans that joke about Ortiz' PED use, especially as it relates to milkshakes and eye drops. You respond by sarcastically referring to the arrival of his milk shakes right after a game we won where his home run was the difference. Now, if I'm mischaracterizing that particular post I apologize, but at the very least, it lacks tact, and it's not like you don't have a history of this kind of stuff.

If I were pandering, by the way, who would I be pandering to? Why? If you mean pandering to the Yankee fans here, not my typical MO. In fact, I wasn't the one in here patronizing them with smarmy congrats when they beat us earlier this season. You definitely don't mean pandering to Curt Schilling, which is both unsolicited and your specialty. Maybe you mean pandering to our fellow Sox fans in here; still way off, but you're getting closer. More than a few of us are regularly annoyed by the frequency with which you set off 10-12 page long arguments, which are frequently fueled by posts such as the one I originally quoted. This just looked like one of your typical jabs, whether you meant it to be or not. I don't want to speak for anyone else, but sometimes its wears out my nerves a tad.

Robby Thomson theory of coaching third hurting the Red Sox today....runner thrown out at home in the 3rd and 4th inning-both times with nobody out. They are playing the A's so it might not cost them.....

When you allow 9 runs I have a hard time placing all the blame for the loss on the third base coach but that's just me.

Re: Red Sox Thread Version 5.0

I blame the pitching and the defense.

Re: Red Sox Thread Version 5.0

Kurt Suzuki hit a pair of homers off Tim Wakefield to help the A's beat the Red Sox 9-8 on Thursday.
Vin Mazzaro got the win for the A's after replacing the injured Brett Anderson to start the third. Third-base coach Tim Bogar should be charged with the loss for Boston, as he twice got runners thrown out at home with no outs in an inning. And it didn't even take perfect throws to get them. Suzuki's homers were his sixth and seventh of the season. He has three in two days after going without one in 54 at-bats during May.
Rotoworld is mad, it's hilarious when they make these kind of statements when the pitching gave up 9 runs, and also they don't make these kind of statements for any other teams.

Their writers are pathetically in love with the Red Sox -- you should see how their descriptions of the Yankees are basically backhanded insults, regardless of performance

Yeah I've realized that, it's quite sad really

I remember for Burnett's last start, they stated that Burnett couldn't keep his current ERA because of his peripherals. But they refuse to say the same for Claytop

Thats true, but both plays were big factors in the game. 9 runs is not giving your offense a great chance to win, but if both runners were held they probably score since they were killing the ball against whomever Oakland put on the mound.

Here after a Red Sox loss AND a Yankee win...Whoaaa!

Reminds me of when I was one of the first folks in this thread to congratulate the Yankee fans after they won the World Series last year....and after all major victories over the Red Sox the last 6 years. Check it out, you'll see it's the truth.

And the only Yankee fan I ever pandered to was yankeebot...I have a soft spot in my heart for her...

Yankee fan on Yankee fan in the Sox thread...interesting.

Back to Bogar, I don't care what Rotoworld said but the fact is that Tim Bogar sent two runners into almost certain outs at the plate, which undoubtedly made winning that game much more difficult. Now it's true that if Wake had pitched better and Manny Delcarman not served up two bombs, the Sox would have had a much better chance to win, especially since they scored 8 runs.

But Bogar is beyond awful. He's costing them outs and arguably games and is a constant risk to the players' health. And even when nothing obviously bad happens, it's hard to believe that runners have any confidence in him when they approach third.

The Sox need to replace him. And while it would be unusual in the extreme to do this mid-season, I wouldn't be at all surprised if they did it.

    Then again, they might.

There should be no ambiguity on this issue for Yankee fans. The longer Tim Bogar remains in his current position for fans who don't like the Sox, the better.
