No, see, good players go through slumps, i.e. they have periods of reduced performance. Ortiz is going through the inverse right now.Originally Posted by Nathan

Oh, Nathan. You just can't help yourself, can you?
Sad.

Ortiz getting thrown out because he's a lazy, fat, showboating idiot was definitely the play of the game. Since there isn't anything at stake with the Sox not a playoff contender, I'm just going to enjoy that awesome play.
Well, that's possible. But the past gives no indication of that being the case. He was a very good hitter between 2003-2008. 2009 started out worse than this year for him, then he led the league in HR from June-Sept. So there aren't any reasons for you to brand him anything other than a "good hitter" (minus the slumps to start the past 2 years) unless you think he's hit the wall age-wise and he's just having one last good month before his career is over.Originally Posted by NYYDragoon

Maybe you don't. We're very different people, Nathan. For instance, I don't go onto message boards for rival teams to start trouble. I come here because I enjoy talking about baseball with Yankee fans. I enjoyed the Ortiz play and laughed, and I mocked him with appropriate labels. I'm sorry that your team isn't in contention this year. Is that why you're upset?Originally Posted by Nathan

But yes, he should have hustled. Bad move not doing so.
Appopriate labels? What does being "fat" or an "idiot" have to do with him getting thrown out? Lazy I could almost buy, but I don't think he got thrown out because he didn't feel like running.Originally Posted by I'm A Wenner!
About the contention thing, you may be right. But it's May.
Ok, fair enough.Originally Posted by Nathan
See if it was me, and it was a Yankee that did that, I would call him an idiot.
Like Wenner said, we're all different.

Fat refers to his level of conditioning. Is it really that difficult to make a connection between his incredibly poor conditioning and his getting thrown out at second on what should have been an easy double?Originally Posted by Nathan
He's an idiot because he stood around rather than running on a ball that wasn't long enough to get out.
Wait, is it poor conditioning or the fact that he "stood around"?Originally Posted by I'm A Wenner!
I think you confused yourself. Regroup.

Sorry for confusing you; I'll try to use shorter words. I never said that he was thrown out because of only one reason. He was thrown out because:Originally Posted by Nathan
1) he stood at home plate showboating because
2) he's an idiot and thought it was a home runs and
3) he was too fat and slow to make it to second after not running right away.
You see, given the ball he hit, it's almost inconceivable that he'd get thrown out at second. Because of the number of problems with Ortiz, he got himself thrown out.
It's both, you silly.Originally Posted by Nathan

I feel fine. My team is in contention.Originally Posted by Nathan
Don't misunderstand me. I made fun of Ortiz because he's a buffoon and a liar, and his failures amuse me. It doesn't go anywhere beyond that. Again, I can see why this would confuse you, since you're the kind of guy who goes onto rival teams' message boards to irritate people.
Everyone's in contention in May. Well, maybe not the Orioles.Originally Posted by I'm A Wenner!
No, it's because he's a prominent player on a rival team. Even if he were a buffoon/liar, there are probably 10 more guys on the Red Sox or the Royals or the Dodgers or the Yankees or any other roster that would fit the same description. But you focus on Ortiz for other reasons.
Well, the reason he's prominent anymore is because he's a buffoon/liar. It's not that 101 OPS+ he rocked last season, his outstanding defense or stellar baserunning that's pushing him into the limelight these days.Originally Posted by Nathan
Stop playing games. Or better yet, stop playing games so badly. The reference was obviously to your post out of the blue on Ortiz, which couldn't have been more obvious bait had you put it on a hook. Strike 1 on Nathan.Originally Posted by Nathan
And you know why Yankee fans will focus on Ortiz over Victor Martinez. There's a little history there with Ortiz that Martinez doesn't have. Yet you went with the "I'll ask them questions instead!" approach and tied yourself in knots. Strike 2.
And, since you're not swift enough to realize when you're in a hole the best thing to do is stop digging, you persisted and I'm A Wenner totally clowned you. Strike 3, you're out.
You were never good at this trolling thing, Nathan, but even given that, your skills are clearly slipping. You need to go away for a while, a long while preferably, and regroup.
If the mods won't ban obvious troll NateNate, can we at least stop his use of the smiley emoticon?

Boston's big contract starting pitcher left the game "with an injury" after another completely ineffective start. Scutaro is horrible. Ortiz made a huge out after he adored his flyball single, the runs that made the difference came from a dropped fly ball and an inexplicably shallow outfield alignment, and Papelbon let three guys on and gave up a run before he was able to barely get through Marcus Thames, Juan Miranda and Randy Winn.
I would not be encouraged if I were a Sox fan.

Did anyone hear Kay talking about how Cervelli said he did not think Papelbon hit him on purpose on Monday. Not only the game situation but because Victor jumped up and said "i'm sorry - that wasn't on purpose". So, if he doesn't jump up and say that, and it's suspicious, it is on purpose? just seemed like an odd exchange..
Yep, Red Sox barely won. Guess they should be mad.Originally Posted by brosiusbuddy
Not really. He's still considered a good hitter, which is the reason why his slump has been such big news. If he were Darnell McDonald with the same results, no one would care.Originally Posted by False1
However, May is becoming less and less of a SSS. His OPS in May is now 1.163.

this is why you are a troll...you don't even believe that post..you just want to bait people.Originally Posted by Nathan

It is odd but I wouldn't read too much into it. Maybe VM (who strikes me as a pretty good guy) thought that, given how the Yanks have owned the Sox, it would be natural for Cervelli to assume that the Sox might be trying to fire up the team by hitting a batter.Originally Posted by b-ball-lunachick

Sure, the game wasn't 100% positive for the Red Sox, but the outcome was. Who can say with a straight face that the Red Sox shouldn't be happy about overcoming a 5-1 deficit against Joba and Rivera? Were you guys unhappy about beating Papelbon 2 days ago because you barely won? That post deserved sarcasm.

See, you just don't understand how people outside of your delusional, dumb fan base think because you're a parody of them. Last night's loss sucked but no more than if it had been to the Blue Jays since your team is about as relevant as they are when compared to a world series hopeful.Originally Posted by Nathan
