He pulled up lame running to second base. Maybe it's karma for all of the jokes Sox fans made about Wang breaking his foot two years ago in Houston.Originally Posted by Hobie

I got to say, I do wish Buchholz a speedy recovery if he misses any time at all. He was having a great season and finally breaking out. If he's out though maybe a mega deal with the DBacks to solve all of their problems. Johnson, Snyder/Montero, Jackson and Qualls?
Yea a lot do and I think it sucks when they do it too. Wang's career was ended by this joke of letting AL pitcher's hit.At least this looks loke a hammyOriginally Posted by Mr Coffee

On this, I agree. Making pitchers hit is a bad idea. Making AL pitchers hit when they're even less accustomed to it is downright stupid.Originally Posted by puffyme

Buchholz apparently has a hyperextended left knee. Also, the Red Sox made a trade for Eric Patterson from the A's.
Who'd they trade?Originally Posted by blumj

Fabian Williamson, a pitcher they got from the M's for David Aardsma.Originally Posted by Mr Coffee

Oh man, the Red Sox are getting hit hard by the injury bug. I guess they need "I never used steroids" to step up and carry this team until Josh Beckett comes back to repeat his April/May success.

I don't like CB at all, but I was sorry to hear he was hurt - glad that the news is good (relatively speaking). It sounds like he can make his next start.Originally Posted by blumj

Well then, someone needs to go over to SoSH to tell them to stop talking bad about the Yanks. We can't afford anymore injuries this year.Originally Posted by nhyankeefan

The Sox have a terrific offense and they deserve a ton of credit; it's very frustrating, lol.Originally Posted by Yankeeah

what a very nice symetrically laid out field AT&T park is.![]()
Mota struggles with Lester but gets Scutaro out!! lol!!!
It infuriates me how they always smack the sh*t out of good pitchers. Halladay used to beat us every single time and they owned him. Jimenez had been untouchable, and they torched him.Originally Posted by Yankeeah

Victor Martinez fractured his left thumb.
And that's another thing with all their injuries the Red Sox are still beating everyone.
Still and will always be a New England Patriots fan.

I guess it happened on the same foul ball that got his toe. You could see the ball ricochet off his glove.
That's nothing, Lester averaged twice as many P/PA as a hitter than as a pitcher.Originally Posted by shotz

Yeah, he saw 24 pitches in four plate appearances, and didn't have a single inning where he threw more than 17 pitches. He also took one off Lincecum over 400 feet, could have had a grand slam if hit to a different part of the park. All that being said, I'm pretty darn happy the Red Sox pitchers are done running the bases. At least, until October.Originally Posted by blumj

I wish that were true. Even now, after a few years of no longer being "Pedro," he has a lifetime 3.20 ERA against the Yankees in 32 starts and 216.2 IP. He's got an 11-11 record despite absurd 10.8 K/9 and 4.14 K/BB rates.Originally Posted by TommyK8

pedro is the best pitcher ever. so yea

Definitely not. In 2000, he had the best season any pitcher has ever had. That said, now that we have some perspective he wasn't dominant for very long.Originally Posted by awy

Pedro had a 10-year peak from 1996-2005 where he had a 177 ERA+. If look at all pitchers ever, in their best ten-year stretch (where they averaged at least 200ip/year), the only pitcher more dominant than Pedro was Walter Johnson. Calling Pedro the best pitcher ever is not that unreasonable.
Roger Clemens had a 143 ERA+ over 24 seasons. That's why he's truly in the discussion for best pitcher ever.Originally Posted by I'm A Wenner!

Pitching longer is not the same as pitching better. Pedro had an 18-year career with a 154 ERA+. That's about as good as it gets.Originally Posted by Rocketman
True, but it's not like Martinez was a flash in the pan. He has a 154 ERA+ over 17 seasons, and at his peak was more dominant than Clemens. Although Clemens pitched more of his career in the AL East than Pedro did. I think if you could groom a Clemens-clone or a Pedro-clone, most folks would choose the latter.Originally Posted by Rocketman
although i advocate roids and stuff, clemens did take some huge quantity of the stuff that allowed him to have a gentle decline, to say the least.
pedro with roids would enjoy a better twilight of a legendary career, and he would get more respect from people who think cy young can even pitch in triple a

That's what happens when you're in the NL.....you don't have to face the aweinspiring power that is Nava/McDonald/Hall.Originally Posted by Yankeeah

Fistpumping like a champion.
This is silly, but Red Sox pitchers in NL games hit .313/.368/.375 with a 2B, 2 BBs, 2 RBI, and 5 sac bunts.
Without Vmart and Dusty, they're gonna be in some trouble.
A fool and his money can throw one heck of a party!
Not sure if it's just spin or not, but Victor is saying he may not even need a trip to the DL. Sounds like he fractured the bone on the top of the thumb. Can't imagine it would feel good hitting.
Dusty, however, is another issue. He could very well be out until September, and who knows how he'll be when he returns.
Just have to hope that the Rays continue to be average, and we can hang with them for awhile.
