I'm probably not qualified to judge, because I haven't seen a lot of those - including The Wire, which is so widely hailed as the best show ever.
Of the ones I've seen, my favorite is Oz. I love that show.

Sopranos, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Oz, to me, are so overrated. Sopranos is good but not the epic series it was made out to be. Sex In the City is awful. I haven't seen the others.... I just finished the entire 6FU series and it was brilliant. Not even close for my choice.

This was my vote as well. Brilliant series. Although I disagree with you about CYE and Oz. Both great shows too. I agree that outside of Season 1, Sopranos was overrated.Originally Posted by Hitman23

Yeah I did. I agree it was one of the best endings in any show. It was just so emotional. I didn't realize until then how much I felt for all of the characters. by the way, Nate's funeral destroyed me. I weeped like a little kid.

For me it's the Wire by a mile. I agree with others that outside of the first two seasons the Sopranos is wildly over-rated. The entire series could have been 4 seasons but they spread it out over 6 jsut for greed's sake.
I haven't seen Six Feet Under, but I want to, just don't know when I'd have the time to. How many seasons is it?
Entourage by default. I haven't watch any of the others except for some early episodes of Curb.
I have seen two of their newer shows though: Bored to Death and How to Make it in America and both look promising. Not eligible for this poll though, I guess.
You've got nothing to believe in but believing in yourself.
Big Love should be include (though last season sucked) over Entourage.
But the answer is The Wire which is the greatest television show that has ever been made and possibly the greatest work that involves moving pictures.
I'd like to give an HM to The Life and Times of Tim, that show cracks me up.

I just finished watching the entire series the other day with my wife (which is fun because my wife's family is seriously mobbed up in a big way). Anyway, I thought Season 4 was really good, just as good as seasons one and two.Originally Posted by RhodyYanksFan

I have not seen all of these, but was super-fond of "Deadwood."
SFU was the first series we watched - rented the whole thing through Netflix. Just a tremendous show.
We're watching The Wire now and it's very very good, but SFU was on another level IMO.

That's a lot of Netflix. Maybe after I finish up Breaking Bad I can jump on this.Originally Posted by Hitman23

I was actually going to start re watching Sopranos very soon since the hype is over I thought I would enjoy it more. Are you saying it's not worth it? I never got past season 2. Maybe I'll just go right to Lost instead. I don't want to be bored. Watching a full series is a commitment.Originally Posted by RhodyYanksFan

Sounds like we enjoy the same sorts of shows. I was into Breaking Bad from the beginning - this season (the third) has been highly entertaining so far by the way.Originally Posted by RhodyYanksFan

Yeah, they really did a good job making you care about the characters. I must have watched the last 5 minutes about 20 times in a row. They did it perfectly with the music, the scenes, the theme. Just so good.Originally Posted by Hitman23

AMC is annoying. The DVD of season 2 didn't come out until a week before season 3 started. Their on-demand (at least on my cable system) only keeps season 3 episodes for two weeks. They're making it impossible to catch up legally. Really stupid IMO. They should do what 24 did last year and release the DVD right after the season ends.Originally Posted by SalingerNY

I get AMC but I don't want to start in the middle. I didn't start watching the show from the beginning, but I've been catching up through netflix. Now season 3 is halfway over, it's not on demand anymore, you can't watch the episodes on AMC's website, and who knows when the DVDs will be out.Originally Posted by SalingerNY
This was a recurring theme throughout the show. The cinematography and soundtrack was always really good. I actually got creeped out a few times. I love how weird it was. The hauntings and hallucinations were amazingly fitting and surprisingly not overused.Originally Posted by CoyoteYankee

Oz was absolutely brilliant. The Wire is a close second.

Does Band of Brothers not count because it was a mini-series?
Also I think True Blood should get some props.
As for the best series I'm going with The Sopranos, the strength of the first 3 seasons were enough to erase the crap that insued towards the end.
The loser now will be later to win...
Yeah I purposely left out mini-series. Hence no BoB, John Adams, Generation Kill, etc.Originally Posted by NewEraYanks2527

Although I am not ashamed to admit my love for True Blood as well. Can't wait for June 13th.
I'm excited for it's return too. It's perfect escape TV. I didn't put it on the list because it's only 2 season's in.Originally Posted by pjfan

I would typically give my vote in a poll like this to a dramatic series like The Wire or Sopranos, but I think Curb Your Enthusiasm is the best comedy series of all time. It just never misses. Gotta give Larry my vote.

The Wire .
The best show I have seen on TV . Its not like I have seen a lot of shows but still .
I liked Sopranos a lot as well .

I chose Oz. I was a fan from the beginning of the show. That sh-t was crazy.

I am reading from you folks that Six feet under is really good . May be I should rent it on Netflix .
If given a choice between SFU and Deadwood , which one should I go for ?

I think I'm the only person on this forum who liked John from Cincinnati although it only lasted one season.
Deadwood is shorter, I'd go for that first depending on your time constraints. Never watched SFU though.

Rome would be my 2nd choice. It was just so well done and intriguing all the way through. My only complaint is that they cut it off too soon so season 2 was way too over-encompassing. It was like 6 months of time passed between each episode.
Nope. I thought John From Cincinnati was great.Originally Posted by AMC

I think then i'll go for Deadwood . But first I need to go back and see Sopranos season 1 . I think I might have missed some episodes in season 1 . I was watching the re-runs on A and E .Originally Posted by teknetic

Good poll idea. I went with Rome. True Blood should be mentioned though.

So did I. It was certainly intriguing. For some reason, I remember you and I (and maybe 1 or 2 others) being the only ones liking it when it came out.Originally Posted by JDPNYY

I can't vote.
I know it's probably The Wire, but the problem is I really, really, really want to vote Six Feet Under.
I still get mad when I hear Breathe Me used in advertising or promos for other shows.

I was also a fan of John from Cincinatti also a fan of Carnivale, which was weird and fun.
True Blood however is terrible. I watch it because I watch the HBO shows plus it is on in the summer when nothing else is on, but it is terrible.
