You make it sound like they would prefer Wade or Bosh to James, which is of course completely ridiculous. James is every team's first choice.Originally Posted by kan_t

But if the Bulls know that their chance is not good, no need to waste time and they should focus on Wade, who actually may come (he is a Chicago native). It's not like no team wants Wade. If they wait for LBJ, Wade may decide to stay in the Heats during the LBJ waiting period and the Bulls would likely get nothing in this case.Originally Posted by Philip Hughes Fan

Wow.
Wow. This is real. It's finally here.

Let's not get too excited yet. Remember, these are the Dolan-owned Knicks.
We do not see things as they are. We see them as we are.
It is never too late to be what you might have been.
I'm just excited that there's a real chance Lebron comes to the Knicks now.
I still don't think it's the likely outcome though.

The funniest thing is going to be just how loudly and lustily he is booed in his first trip to the Garden if he doesn't come to the Knicks.
Hell, perhaps it goes beyond the first time - he probably becomes PE#1 in the Garden if he doesn't come.

I would still say the Cavs are the favorites to re-sign him. I don't think the Knicks can get him unless they bring another big FA with him, like Chris Bosh.
If he's not coming here, I really hope he stays in Cleveland.
We do not see things as they are. We see them as we are.

It's about 14 hours later and I'm officially sick of thinking about this.
Prior to the playoffs, I had been convinced that there was a 90ish % chance of him re-signing in Cleveland, which made me uninvested, but I think that's dropped significantly to 65%-70% now.
This has had me actually entertaining the thought of Lebron as the first in-prime alpha dog to play for the Knicks since Ewing/Bernard.
I am now ceasing that exercise until late June or the start of July.

Agree with this. If winning is his ultimate goal, he may not want to stay in Cleveland, but is there a reason for him to believe the Knicks are going to be any better than the team he has been on for the forseeable future?Originally Posted by Snatch Catch

Uhm, yes? The Knicks are the only team that can offer Lebron the chance to play with an already established, legitimate scoring big man, in Bosh.Originally Posted by Yankee Fan in Boston

Yeah there is a chance they can be better than the Cavs this year.Originally Posted by Yankee Fan in Boston
First the East is weak. Other than Orlando and Boston and maybe Miami, there aren't any elite teams. There are alot of bad mediocre teams.
Second the regular season in the NBA is not a big deal. Sixteen teams make the playoffs.
Third the Knicks can offer LeBron a legit sidekick. Something the Cavs have failed at 7 years in a row. And currently have little cap space.
I think the legit second scorer is really over looked by a lot of people looking to criticize LeBron. This is a big factor when the playoffs start and you're facing better teams that can make adjustments in a series.
Easy to pile up wins during the regular season in a league where there is only a handful of elite teams imo.
But during the playoffs you need help. Don't matter who you are.
I may be wrong, but couldn't the Nets sign two max FAs, and have Lopez on their roster?Originally Posted by Snatch Catch

Once they sign their draft picks, they wouldn't have enough salary space for two max FAs. Still a Lopez/Wall/Harris core looks attractive. But I doubt the Nets are serious in LBJ. They may and should set their sight to 2011 FA, like Melo who was born in Brooklyn. Considering the timing, Melo will be a perfect fit for them.Originally Posted by Yankee Fan in Boston
Yes. And Terrence Williams, CDR (who would be just fine in a complementary, "second or third guy off the bench" role), John Wall (if they get the number one pick, Evan Turner if they get the number two pick), and whoever they would recieve in return from a Devin Harris/first round draft pick package (don't forget...the Nets have the Mav's first round pick this year as left-over from the Kidd trade) which, I imagine, could be used for a true PF or maybe a quality outside shooter.Originally Posted by Yankee Fan in Boston
Are the Nets the favorite? No. But I think they are in the conversation. Factor in the aforementioned roster, the crazy Russian billionaire with an insatiable appetite to win and endless resources, a brand new arena and a brand new New York franchise that he could put on the map, the Godfather of marketting (and good friend) minority owner Jay-Z that could take the "Lebron brand" to new and striking levels, and of course, the chance to be unequivicably the face of a franchise (Julius Erving not with-standing, he was more a contributor to the ABA Nets), and I think the Nets are definitely players (probably top 3 or 4 with Knicks, Cavs, and Bulls).
What's playing against them and probably refutes everything I just said? Well, if Lebron leaves Cleveland, more than anything else, it's going to be to win, and it goes without saying that the Nets didn't do enough of that last year...but could a starting five of Wall, Terrence Williams, Lebron, Bosch (or Amara or Boozer), and B. Lopez with whoever they get in the Harris trade and CDR coming off the bench 1-2 be enough to wet his appetite? It's worth at least asking. Personally,
Personally though, I think the biggest stumbling block would be the two year pitstop in Newark. The arena is actually gorgeous and I think if he were lured to NJ, Prokherov would bring in legions upon legions of Russians to assure a speedly completion of the new arena (and spare no cost), but nothing will change the fact that he'd be indentured to New Jersey for two years.

The Nets will be more in the conversation when the three year deal he signs now is up. I could see him re-upping with Cleveland for 3 years and then making the move to Brooklyn if that whole transition goes well.

Right....so Snatch was very wrong...
The Bulls would easily trade Deng+ for Bosh. The Raptors have no leverage to demand Rose.
I suppose, but that's assuming that the Raptors want Deng and that salary. It takes two to tango in a S&T.Originally Posted by THEBOSS84

No, the Raptors will have lots of leverage if the Bulls want Bosh and they don't have any salary space. Because not only the Bulls want him. And the Raptors would be very happy if they just keep him.Originally Posted by THEBOSS84
It does, but your original point was that the Knicks can offer Lebron the opportunity that no one else could - the opportunity to play with Bosh. That's not true.Originally Posted by Snatch Catch
This is true, but demanding Rose would result in no trade, obviously.Originally Posted by kan_t

That's the tricky point. The signing time of those big FAs (Wade, LBJ, Bosh) will totally change the outcome.Originally Posted by Snatch Catch

Even though the Raptors can offer Bosh the most money, he's not going to sign with them only to be traded to a team he has no interest in joining (Kings)...Thunder is a another story, but Bosh has spoken about playing with Lebron before, and I'm sure that would be his first interest.Originally Posted by kan_t

If I remember correctly, in almost every scenario where someone is involved in a S&T, the team getting the already signed guy gets boned and is better off just letting the guy walk rather than taking on a contract like Deng's.

How much more money is Bosh getting for an S&T vs. FA? If he really wants to win, how do we know he wouldn't leave it on the table to keep his new team stronger?

We are taking this further than I originally intended to take it. I was just pointing out something you clearly overlooked, regardless of whether it's likely or not.Originally Posted by Snatch Catch

If Deng was in the final year of his deal, I'd give you credit, but he's not even close, so you get none.
Now, if you wanted to talk about Bosh in a S&T to the Mavs or Rockets, I'd give you that, but to try and insinuate that there is somehow even close to a level playing field in the ability to acquire Bosh next year by the Knicks and Bulls is off.
