It's the anti-New York bias. People across the country have no interest in seeing the Knicks become good/relevant again.
If the Knicks get LBJ and Bosh, that team will be better than the current Cavs in 2 seasons, if not less. Gallo can really shoot and is a lot tougher than I anticipated. His only problem is that he looks like he's running in slow motion when at full speed.

While their next guaranteed 1st round pick is next year, it could very easily be in 3 weeks at the 2010 draft if they choose to buy a pick.

While I don't think he'll ever be what you consider fast, I do believe we're going to see his athleticism increase for a few reasons. First is that he was still recovering from the back surgery for a fair amount of last season so we've never seen the best of him athletically. Second, he now has a full offseason to work on his conditioning and overall fitness. You have to believe they've got him doing some plyometrics to go along with what I imagine is a pretty vigorous weight lifting routine. Third, he's not at his physical peak yet. He won't peak athletically for 4-5 years so there's that to look forward to. Also, there's every chance that once he matures physically he'll play power forward against guys much less likely to be quicker than he is. Finally, the type of game he has the tools for is not one that requires great foot speed. He has all of the tools to play the game like Dirk plays it except that his body is not as mature yet. I would much rather see him develop a nice post game where he can fade away and bully some smaller guys down low than have him try and blow by people off the dribble.
I understand. I just think pairing him with an athletic freak like LeBron and Bosh won't be that successful, as he won't be able to keep up. But as a guy isolated at the top of the key waiting for LBJ to penetrate and draw attention, he could be an absolute assassin. Something LBJ could certainly use. For example, when Mo Williams was on, they killed teams. When he was off, they couldn't do .................
I hope your optimism about his development turns out to be accurate. I'm not so certain. I realize he has been limited by the back injury, which is extremely serious, but IMO he will never match the athleticism of a good forward in the NBA. He just doesn't have that spring in his step. Watch his jumpers, he doesn't really get up there much. But like you said, we don't need him getting above the rim to grab boards, we just need him to overwhelm smaller guys and post up for fade away jumpers.

Can't you just see a scenario playing out where the Knicks become like their Garden-mates the Rangers..perpetually mediocre?
Signing Lebron would be a magnet for getting another top tier FA. Not getting him would make the Knicks a lot less attractive to other top FAs like Bosh. Is it feasible to use all your cap space to turn the Knicks from a bottom feeder into a middle of the pack team?

It's completely feasible, but I don't think Donny & Co. use up the cap space to use it up. If they can't find a couple max guys to sign, I think they put together the best team they can on short contracts, and continue to wait for a superstar next year or seek a trade. I don't see them becoming impatient after all that work to get out of the cap hole the team was in.

Walsh has said he is conciously going to avoid this.
In my mind the Knicks only get Lebron or Wade if they come with another big FA. They're not getting either of those guys solo.

Yeah I think he'll be fine. He doesn't need to be ahead of the play on the break, just do enough so that if it's not an easy 2 on the fastbreak he can get himself in a corner by the time the ball starts being rotated. I hadn't noticed the size of his feet lol but he's 6'10-6'11 so for the sake of balance they should be pretty big.

So many rumors about Lebron. Nobody knows. He probably hasn't even made up his mind yet. If he has it's doubtful he's told anyone knowing it will go public.
Lets try to dissect this.
I think his main options are Knicks, Bulls an Cleveland. There is Miami and Clippers. I don't buy the latter because why would he go to Miami? Wade is there and in terms of basketball it doesn't fit. Someone like Stoudamire and Bosh fit better with Wade.
Clippers are another team I don't buy him going to. Lebron seems like he likes a lot of attention and to be in the spot light. So why would he sigh with the Clippers? Who are second fiddle to the Lakers? Just doesn't make sense.
Bulls-Can you honestly tell me the situation would be so much greater than say the Knicks? Bulls can only only afford ONE max player. In terms of basketball, Rose does not compliment Lebron. Everyone on the media seems to be getting excited about that potential duo but ignoring both players games.
Noah is a nice player but the someone that will be the difference in winning a championship imo. The rest of the roster is okay.
Cleveland-I doubt he's going back there. He's shown no indication. Again here's where the media ignores things. They are making it all about the coach there. Totally ignoring that the cast in Cleveland sucks. They have no cap room to sign a FA and get help for Lebron. No instead it's about Tom Izzo. And somehow he will be the difference in Lebron coming back.
Knicks-The media is completely overlooking that the Knicks make the most sense. They are the only team that can add two max players. Give Lebron the option on who he wants to play with.
Curry can you get you something. Gallanri looks to be a good supporting player. From what I saw late in the season, Tony Douglas is the exact type of PG you want playing with Lebron. He can shoot and play defense.
Everyone seems to be too caught up in "how are they going to fill the rest of the roster out". Therefore dismissing the Knicks as a viable option.
Everything isn't going to happen in one year anyway. Who's to say that in 2 years the Knicks won't have a center that plays solid D and rebounds? Or one of the best benches in the NBA.
Realistically if they get Lebron, you're looking for at 2 years the most at a possible championship. He will have a one year grace period. Think playoffs in the first year not championship.
I heard on the radio this am that Izzo is close to signing with Cleveland. Why would he sign with them unless he knows Lebron is staying. I could see Lebron sign a 3 year deal with Cleveland. I hope i'm wrong and he signs with the Knicks.
I've heard a few reporters/journalists float this out there. The opinion was that James absolutely loves the attention and loves basically being begged to come to certain cities. The reporters talked about him signing a short term deal with an opt out clause, and going through this whole thing in another couple years.
If he wants to win championships, this is probably not the way to go. I think we'll really get a glimpse into LeBron and what his priorities are when he makes he decision.
