Then don't join the discussion. This thread is about the Cy Young race. The entire point of the thread is to discuss who might win the Cy Young. It's incredibly obvious to everyone that the award is not decided at this point. We don't need you to come in and tell everyone that they shouldn't guess at who might win because they could end up being wrong.

Wow, someone piss in your cereal this morning? Or maybe I'll give you the benefit of the doubt because of the heat?

Title of the thread is "Cy Young Watch". People are following top pitching performances across MLB. THEBOSS narrowed the final award down to a few guys, and I just pointed out that I'm going to reserve on casting final judgment this early. But please, continue to play forum police; it's cute.

I'm going to go with Cliff Lee for my first half AL Cy; that K/BB ratio has me mesmerized. Not to mention all the complete games he's thrown.

Can you tell me the point of reminding a guy who makes a prediction that his prediction isn't guaranteed to be correct?

On a positive note, I am glad to hear that your cat is well-hydrated. That can be a real concern in this heat.

for the NL its hands down Jimenez unless he ends up on the DL.

for the AL its between Lee, Lester, Price, Buchholz and Pettitte with a long shot.

I'd love Hughes to get it but realistically with the innings limits he wont have as many starts as the others.

CC is often dominant in the second half -- I wouldn't count him out

I want Lester and Price to tank during the second half (whatever is bad for the Sox and Rays is good for the Yanks) and Lee to get traded to the NL so Andy has a shot.

For the NL Wainwright makes the thing interesting. Right now he has a better ERA, WHIP, more SO and higher IP than Jimenez.

For the AL everyone has a chance.

Agreed, I wouldn't be too surprised if CC won it. He's got the name recognition, he's on the Yankees - giving him a lot of wins (those guys love wins), and he's known for his second half.

At http://espn.go.com/mlb/features/cyyoung the Yankees have Sabathia first and Pettitte second in the AL Cy Young Predictor. The fact that Sabathia (119.3 points, 3.18 ERA) is ahead of Josh Johnson (117.9 points, 1.61 ERA) despite Johnson's ERA being about half of Sabathia's shows the formula is flawed.

Doesn't JJ have more K's than CC aswell?

I suppose AL and NL factors might be involved in the formula

Seeing how the voters generally judge these kind of things (WINS!)... no, it's actually not a flawed formula.

Anyway, unless he goes on a Cliff Lee CG tear when he gets back, I don't see Pettitte having any chance at the Cy Young now. Oh well.

The Cy Young race has just shown that how long the baseball season is. A month ago people still said that Jimenez is a lock. Now he shouldn't even be in the top 3 voting.

The formula isn't flawed. Candidates get bonus points if their team is in 1st place because traditionally, CY young winners were more likely to come from division leaders, independent of their stats.

That's a bit of an exaggeration. I can't see how he would literally be 4th in balloting right now, not with the 15-1 record and the no hitter.

But your point is made. He's not a lock obviously for the CYA.

Now he is 15-2 and he keeps falling. Right now his ERA, WHIP, K, IP are ALL worse than Halladay, Johnson and Wainwright. Those 3 beat him in all four important Cy Young stats. And it's not like he is running away in win total. Wainwright is only one win behind.

Even if the SP weren't so strong this year, don't you think Rivera would need sexier save numbers? He's "only" on pace to have around 35.

Mo was absolutely robbed the year they gave it to Bartolo Colon...that was a joke, much like Palmiero getting the Gold Glove over Tino

And yes, Santana deserved it that year, without a question in my mind.

    Agreed.

The NL is close between those 5 guys. It's gonna come down to the wire.

At the moment I'd say Wainwright has the edge, but it's hard to argue against Halladay or Hudson either. I think Johnson and Jimenez are behind, but just a month ago they looked like the clear cut favorites. So things can change.

I also think it's between Cliff Lee and David Price in the AL.

As for the NL, I think it's between Adam Wainwright, Ubaldo Jimenez and Roy Halladay.
