    2010 Cy Young Watch

I know it's early but you know some pitchers will be in the race from now to the end of the season. So I start it now.

    AL
    CC: 2-0, 19 IP, 2.84 ERA, 18 SO, 0.737 WHIP
    King Felix: 1-0, 20.1 IP, 3.10 ERA, 18 SO, 1.131 WHIP
    Jered Weaver: 2-0, 19 IP, 2.84 ERA, 21 SO, 0.895 WHIP
    Brett Anderson: 1-0, 12 IP, 0.00 ERA, 10 SO, 1.000 WHIP

    NL
    Halladay: 3-0, 24 IP, 1.13 ERA, 21 SO, 0.958 WHIP
    Lincecum: 3-0, 20 IP, 0.90 ERA, 24 SO, 0.800 WHIP
    Jimenez: 3-0, 21 IP, 1.29 ERA, 20 SO, 1.190 WHIP
    Adam Wainwright: 2-0, 15 IP, 1.20 ERA, 13 SO, 0.800 WHIP

I think in the NL, it will probably come down to Halladay or Lincecum.

Agreed. At the end of the season I think their WHIP and ERA will be similar. Halladay will have advantage on IP while Lincecum will have advantage on SO. The deciding factor will be wins total. Halladay should have more wins but so far the Giants' offense surprises me a little bit. It's only 3 games but they backed up Lincecum really well.

The real reason why the Yankees keep winning is cause the other team can't stop staring at the damn pinstripes

Doug Fister- Just lost a no-no in the 7th, had 10 innings straight of no-hit ball and 14 straight scoreless innings.

Let the campaign for Doug begin!

No Mariner will win the Cy Young this year, because if their current run production holds up, their pitchers will all commit seppuku sometime in early July.

I think the Jimenez, Pettitte, Niemann, and Lincecum numbers need updating.

    ETA:

    Ubaldo Jimenez 10-1, 80.1 IP, 0.78 ERA, 70 K, 0.896 WHIP
    Andy Pettitte 7-1, 65.1 IP, 2.48 ERA, 41 K, 1.148 WHIP
    Jeff Niemann 5-0, 71 IP, 2.79 ERA, 45 K, 1.099 WHIP
    Tim Lincecum 5-2, 71.2 IP, 3.14 ERA, 83 K, 1.186 WHIP

At this stage my original plan is to update it every one or two weeks to just let people know which pitchers are in the lead and are deserved to have a closer look. But every update is certainly welcome in this thread. Thanks for your help.

If I had to pick right now I think the easy choice in the NL is Jimenez. The AL is tougher, but I'd lean towards Lester right now. Pettitte/Hughes are right there, but Hughes will have some starts skipped to limit his innings so Cy Young is very unlikely. Obviously a lot can still change though

This year is a good year for pitching fans. We may be seeing one of the all-time best single pitching seasons by a pitcher and one of the closest Cy Young races.

Doesn't it seem like at least 3 times a week someone is taking a no hitter into the 7th or later? It's getting almost silly.

They were discussing this a few days ago on Mike & Mike. The thing everyone agreed on as a big part of the reason is the absence of PED's. Even taking that into consideration, this season has been ridiculous so far for pitchers. It's just like the good old days when teams didn't stand a chance against Koufax and Gibson.

Yeah this is exactly what I'm thinking with no PED's. Pitching really can overpower hitting on a level playing field I suppose.

I can't listen to M&M anymore, and I did for a long time. I went over to Boomer and Carton on WFAN. Way more entertaining.

No way they crack me up. Carton is hilarious, and a closet Yankee fan. Which makes him funnier when he complains about the Mets.

    Re: Cy Young Watch

Carton is hilarious. He is a closet Yankee fan in the sense that he is happy that there is a good NY team to talk about when the Mets are sucking. That said he usually sides against the Yankees whenever he can. Dont even get me started on Boomer who brings up payroll and ALWAYS sides against the Yankees. He took Bradens side in the A-rod thing, because he took Bradens word for it that there was an unwritten rule.

Thats the difference between Carton and Boomer. Carton also took Braden's side. But he took his side because he thought it took balls to stand up to A-rod and pretty much admitted he didnt like A-rod.

I may not agree with Carton all the time but he is an honest funny dude, who doesnt try to BS his viewers.

Looks like a battle between Lee/Lester/Price.

Lee may lose his chance at the award if he gets traded to the NL.

I'd put my $ on Lester.

I like Lester as well, but don't discount what Weaver has done. He's been a monster, and if he keeps it up he should be right there.
