    Mlb.tv

So I got the MLB package online this year because you can't do Extra Innings month to month and I am moving in July. I got the high end plan which is supposed to have DVR-like features but every time I go to use it, it doesn't work. Does anyone else have this?

That said, the picture is great.

Some features are only available to those who supported Obama in the 2008 Election. See your Terms of Use agreement for more information.

You have to download their special plugin, the name of which I forget right now, if you want to use the DVR features.

    EDIT: It's called "NexDef."

I did it twice to make sure. It tells me I have full speed but then doesn't work. I sent them an email to see what is up.

That's odd. Good luck getting help, their customer service is infamously awful.

I just downloaded the Adobe 10 update so maybe that will help. I know their CS sucks. I used this before Fios had the package.

I heard that Win 7 and NexDef don't work. Some guy on another forum said he got them to work fine though. So if you have Win 7 that is probably the reason why NexDef doesn't work.

Yet another reason why shelling out the extra cash for a Mac makes sense.

Thats funny, cause Flash works better on Windows than it does on Mac. I usually restart my mac in XP to watch games in mlb.tv.

Is it worth it to get the 20/month more for MLB.TV premium?

I don't know much about this. What's the difference and how can I tell which is what?

The reason I ask is because I get very choppy video when I watch mlb.tv... yet, when I stream netflix, it's perfect.

The difference is that MLB.TV uses Flash, which, IMHO, blows, and Netflix uses Microsoft's Silverlight.

The quicker we can kill Flash for something better, the better for everyone.

More than what? Premium is $5 per month more than the basic version.

you may very well have IE8 in both 64 and 32 bit varieties already installed on your machine.

if you're on windows 7, look for the one that says '64 bit', and then choose the other one (or vice versa if one says '32 bit'...)

I am on Windows Vista. I also checked my graphics settings from the desktop. It said 32 bit. Would that mean my browsers are also 32 bit?

Yeah, you have to use a 32-bit browser for flash to work. You can thank Adobe for not keeping up with technology.

However, you can operate other IE browsers in 64-bit at the same time, just in a different window.

(Not sure if MLB.tv uses flash, however).

    It does.

    Flash Player Requirements

The MLB.TV Media Player is built on Adobe Flash Player and requires Flash Player 9.0.115 or higher to function. The MLB.TV Media Player will operate with Flash Player 9.0.115; For an optimal viewing experience we recommend that you install the latest version of Adobe Flash Player 10.

right click 'my computer' and select properties. under system type (or something similar) you should see either 32 or 64 bit.

if you're 32, then you're good to go, and if issues are present you'll want to look into tweak some video card and/or flash player settings.

if your router supports QoS stuff, setting aside bandwidth isn't a bad idea either.

    Re: Mlb.tv

...and my 4 year old (vista) laptop now sports a crack in the hinge. i figure it's got a couple months before that crack starts to spread.

i wonder if those windshield guys do laptop hinges as well?

of course, the techno-geek in me likes this because it means UPGRADE BABY....

but if MLB.TV premium HD (nexdef) is not compatible with win 7 (64 bit)....then we've got a problem. 32 bit version would be the short term solution that nets me access to mlb.tv, but 64 is where we're headed.

If your computer can handle the HD feed, and if you always want to watch YES, then yeah.
