Since the Yankees are the defending champions I thought I would ask this.

Two teams the year after they won the series had the words "World's Champions" put on their uniforms.

The 1906 NY Giants did so.

The 1921 Cleveland Indians put WORLDS CHAMPIONS on theirs.

The 1927 St Louis Cardinals put WORLD CHAMPIONS on theirs.

None of these teams won the World Series in the years they wore these uniforms.

I'm also pretty sure the catcher for the Red Sox in 2005 and 2008 had to be told he couldn't do such a thing, despite his pleads.
