    Civic Duty

I received my Census Form yesterday. It's already completed and returned in the mail.

My JDPNYY Annual Prediction Contest entry is submitted (although I reserve the right to make chages until the deadline).

    Re: Civic Duty

Sent my census form out this morning. I was a little bamboozled that they sent out a letter last week to remind us to fill out the form. I'm not normally one to complain about that kind of thing, but it seemed a little wasteful.

I had to laugh at the spaces for 12 people living in my house. And I let the bf inspect the form before I sent it out...he doesn't really like to have his name on anything but he deemed it OK.

I've never done the JDP contest but will check it out shortly.

Anddddd.....I have completed one bracket so far but usually do four--not sure if this will be the one I use in the NYYFans contest yet.

    Re: Civic Duty

1- haven't received my census form yet. (although I haven't gotten my mail in a couple days so it's probably there. )

2 - is that a march madness bracket? is there money involved?

3 - I did the JDP contest for the first time last year..it was fun - I think I finished in the top 15 or 20...andI would have finished higher if Robertson had made the team out of camp (which he should have )..yes, I'm still bitter - I'm very competetive.

I will fill my JDP one out soon...

    Re: Civic Duty

I sent out my completed census form today. I tried a couple of times to finish the JDP Predictions contest, but shut the wrong window both times . . . losing my results.

I will work on the contest later this evening. Hopefully, I don't make the same mistake a third time.

    Census - check.
    NYYFans Prediction Contest - check.
March Madness, 6 brackets - check.
Fantasy Baseball Draft One - check.
Fantasy Baseball Draft Two - pending.

Not bad. Not bad at all.

I just said that to myself this morning. I actually hadn't even opened the 'reminder' until this morning - I thought it was the census form. Very wasteful. (we need a tsk tsk smiley)
I have not received my real census form yet.

I did do 2 March Madness brackets (one here and one at work).
And I entered the JDPNYY contest this morning.

I got the letter telling me I would be getting a letter that would let me know that I would be getting a Census. Then I got the letter telling me that the Census was on it's way. Yet still no Census.

I'll complete the Census within the allotted time frame.

I completed my NCAA Basketball bracket.

I made up the NYYFans.com 2010 Prediction Contest and I submitted a contest entry.

I called in my Unemployment Claim as directed by the Agency.

I have Fantasy Baseball drafts pending.

    Re: Civic Duty

The census form is sitting on the desk. I suppose I'll get around to filling it out eventually but I'm not in any hurry.

    JDP's contest - entry submitted.

college basketball bracket - no interest

fantasy sports - I have less interest in those than I have in filling out a college basketball bracket, if that can be possible.

edit: census form completed and ready for the outgoing mail. That took all of about 5 minutes.

I'm doing my civic duty... I'm doing my tax return. Anyone wanna tell me if I can claim civil service exam fees as a job-related expense, since if I didn't take it, I would probably lose my job?

While the letter may seem wasteful, it is a form of advertising to raise awareness and remind everyone. It costs much more later to send people out to your door and in some cases multiple times.

They've actually been able to show that sending such a reminder saves money, since it cuts down on the number of people they need to send out in person to follow-up with people who didn't fill out the census.

    Not wasteful at all actually.

    OK. Let me regroup here.

I was using the requirement to complete a census form as a means of encouraging completion of JDPNYY Prediction Contest entries and Madness Brackets.

Somehow, the conversation has devolved into a discussion of the census. Good grief, people, it's the census. It's pretty dull.

Go put in your entry in the JDPNYY contest and/or the brackets. Much less dull.

Did the census. Was tempted to say I live away from the house because I have a secret second family or something, but didn't.

I may try the Prediction Contest - I started it last year and gave up halfway through.

    Brackets...ooooooooooops, missed the boat!

Well, I did one good thing this week anyway.

They're still open until the games start on Thursday. It's not too late!

And, by all means give JDPNYY's contest a try.

I was tempted to leave race blank but I can really live without a visit from a census employee.

I put 5K. It was a white lie. I couldn't run a 5K at this point. I could run a little, then walk some holding my side. I might be able to run a little again near the end.

The census form took me maybe two minutes to fill out. Maybe less.

I mailed it today, along with my jury questionnaire, so I've really done my civic duty.

I haven't done the contest yet, and I've never entered an NCAA pool in my life.

Thank God I didn't take the job as Census Bureau Manager in the Hartford area. Everyday they have some sort of news on how they can't get employees to stay there, or even show up.

I started my form but haven't finished it yet. I have to do it for 5 people so it's not a 1 minute thing.

I did Census work n 1990 and I found that some do that kind of thing for the company, in addition to the many who are simply forgetful, procrastinators, illiterate, or something. Kinda pitiful in some cases.

It's a shame that JDPNYY won't come by your house if you don't enter the prediction contest. That'd be cool.

What will she be doing, Margaret? I took the test, went to a few interviews, was hired and sworn in, finger printed, the whole bit, but I decided not to take the job...it was a management job. The 80% turn over for CB workers was part of the deal breaker for me. Well and I had a few other jobs lined up.

I wonder if she's going to do what my dad did last time..he had recently retired and was going knocking on people's doors..he had some interesting stories, that's for sure.

After that he started doing deliveries for meals on wheels...he has even more stories from that gig..most of them heartwarming.
