Thread: Contest - The 9th Annual NYYFans.com Prediction Contest

Contest - The 9th Annual NYYFans.com Prediction Contest

For the 9th straight year we are proud to present the NYYFans.com Prediction Contest - the 2010 version.

A contest that begins in the beginning of March and ends (hopefully) in early November...

This year's contest is ready and Lou's site has been updated.

Here is the link to the contest:
    http://rltranstech.com/nyyfans/

    (Thanks Lou!)

    Here are the Rules:
    1. You must be a member of the NYYFans forums to participate in this contest. (Fans of any team may particpate.)
      1. If you are not already a member, please sign up.
    2. You must remain a posting member of the forums from now through the end of the 2010 baseball season.
    3. Here's how the contest works:
    4. The first section of the contest is a set of simple yes-or-no questions on whether a player will be on the opening day roster. (Note: If a player is on the Disabled List to start the season, he will be counted as a YES as part of the 25 man roster.)
    5. The second section involves Yankee firsts in 2009. Choose the player you feel will attain each first.
    6. In the third section, you'll see a Yankee player and a target amount for a particular stat. Simply pick whether the actual value for that stat will be over or under that target.
      • If the target stat is reached exactly, the choice of Over will win.
      • Note: The stats for each player are only stats compiled as a Yankee, so if you feel that a player will not remain a Yankee all year, keep that in mind when predicting.
    7. In the next two sections there will be a few questions about the Yankees in general. Answer those questions in the space provided.
    8. Section 6 is a bunch of very easy questions that we only ask that you answer honestly.
    9. There are seven tiebreaker questions that should be filled out and will only be used if there is a tie for first place. If the players who are tied don't answer any tiebreaker questions correctly, the winner will be determined based on whose responses are as closest to the correct answers.
    10. The deadline for entry is Sunday, March 21, 2009 at midnight Eastern Time.
    11. Please feel free to direct any questions about the contest itself to JDPNYY on NYYFans.com.
    12. Technical questions about this web site can be directed to sweet_lou_14 on NYYFans.com.
You must use your exact NYYFans.com User Name and if you have signed up for the 2009 Contest or the OffSeason Contest, you must use the same password.

    Write down your password.
    Please write down your password.
I implore you to write down your password.
After you write down your password, put it in a safe place, perhaps in a safety deposit box or something.
If you are signing up for the first time, please pick a password other than your NYYFans.com password.

Don't let that confuse you... You MUST use your exact User Name for the contest... (just choose a different password... then write down the password and put it in a safe place).

I would appreciate it if a Moderator could sticky this and perhaps post a thread linking to here in say - Just Conversation, The Sports Bar, maybe the Player Performance forum as well???

(also... unsticky last years threads... please?)

    Thanks.

Glad to have this contest up and running again. I missed it last year and was pissed. Been looking forward to it for a year now.

Thanks for putting this together for us.

I just entered. However, I did try to register under this screenname and it said I was already registered and would only let me do it under GoRocket.

As you've probably guessed, this is simply because the contest is not tied directly to the NYYFans site. Updating your user name on this forum doesn't have any effect on the contest site.

If you'd like me to update your user name on the contest site, I'd be happy to the next time I'm in there. Just let me know.

Kind of a silly question I guess but I just got done filling the whole thing out and it said " Congradulations you have submitted your entry" And all that stuff.

Then it said to review my entry or to edit it to click here. So I clicked it and it asked me to sign in again. Then I signed in and there was no entry.

What happened? Is my Entry on there? Or was I logged in too long and it automatically logged me out so it didn't count?

I am very sorry, but the entry isn't in the database. It's been lost.

This has happened to a handful of unlucky people and I have never been able to determine the cause for certain. The the best theory I have is that your user "session" may have invisibly timed out. I've updated the timeout to a full two hours ... hopefully this will fix the problem for you but since I've never experienced the problem myself, it's impossible for me to be sure.

What I suggest you do is jot down your answers on your computer (a Word document, text file, or draft email) and then log in to the site all over again to enter them. Keeping your notes on your computer instead of writing them on paper will also allow you to PM me your responses if for some reason the responses are lost twice. In that case I'll just enter your answers for you.

Again, I'm really sorry. Let's hope the change I made will fix things.

Thanks. But yea, I was probably working on it for an hour or so. I was busy and also working on that at the same time. Then I submitted it and it was all gone when I checked the 2010 leaderboards. Pissed me off. Now I have to do it all over again. Guess it will give me something to do before I go to bed now. I've done this before in the past and never had problems though. I probably was logged in too long though.

Thanks for the advice though. Time for round 2.

Alright, I got my entry in and submitted this time. Firefox helped me out, It saved all of the names I had typed in so I just had to click on the bar and put it in again. And the only ones I really had to redo was the multiple choice ones. But should be a fun contest. Thanks for doing it again.

Btw, Out of curiosity, whats the prize this year? Has it been announced? I know before its been tickets and what not. Is there a prize picked out yet?

EDIT: Also, what if say, A-rod, goes 4/4 on opening day and then gets hurt and is out for the entire season? Would that count as a 1000. BA? So if I picked A-rod to have over a .305 BA I would get that one correct? Or would you not even count that? How does that work? Obviously hoping that don't happen but just something I wondered about.

Yea, it allows you to edit it as much as you want. And 1 more thing that has to do with the past years results.

How come it says this for me:

    Welcome, DerekJeter4MVP!!!!
Of the 113 questions whose answers are known, you have answered correctly.
That is good for 196th place out of 195 registered contestants.

I tottalled it up myself and I got 46 correct I believe. Not that it matters or that I would have won or anything. But how come it doesn't say how much I got right or I'm not on the leaderboard?

You discovered a small bug which caused your "invalid" entry responses from 2008 to be shown even though you aren't on the leaderboard. I've fixed it.

At the end of every contest, John will go through and make sure that all entries follow the rules. I don't recall why your entry in 2008 was invalidated but it probably had to do with something like remaining an active member of the posting community throughout the contest.

It doesn't matter to me, I just saw that to be eligible one has to be actively posting and technically GoRocket doesn't post here anymore. But if it's not a problem, it can stay.

Just updated it for you. You make a good point. Who knows if JDPNYY is going to remember who GoRocket was when he enforces the rules with extreme prejudice later on in the season.

Oh, well I do mainly just come on here and read. I don't post too much. So that could be a problem mainly. Hopefully that don't happen this year. Although there was 2 questions I think that I didn't answer and it had " No response" for. So that could have been why also. Not sure.

    Thanks for the replies though.

Perhaps if someone would report this post it would be brought to the attention of the Moderating team.

Would someone be kind enough to report it and ask that it be read? I can't report my own post.

Maybe if you ask sweet_lou_14 nicely, he'll look up your password for you.

    Nice job, as always, John.

This may be a stupid ass question, but when we are talking over/unders, are we assuming only time in the bigs or minor league time also?
I have no association with "TEPLimey" at nomaas. Apparently a very disturbed individual likes to get their rocks off on pretending they are me. Sad, really.

Only the time in the Majors and as a Yankee. If someone is traded, their stats from the new team are not counted.
