Thread: Players who have not yet officially retired, but are not on an MLB team?

Players who have not yet officially retired, but are not on an MLB team?

I think the last few years, moreso than I can remember, we have seen a lot of guys not officially retire from baseball, but are not on any team currently because they are either no longer good, not healthy, etc.

Who are some players who have not officially retired, yet are no longer part of MLB?

I am sure the list is plenty, but here are two off the top of my head.

    -Barry Bonds
    -Frank Thomas

I don't think Clemens, Sosa, or Palmeiro retired.
If they ask who was our star, give them twenty five names, and if you forget our names, just tell them we were Yankees.

    Has Bernie officially retired?

Heck, I'm not sure Derek Bell is officially retired, still in "Operation Shutdown"

Bernie hasn't called it quits yet. He played in last year's WBC.

As long as he hadn't played in a major league game in 5 years, he was considered eligible, regardless of whether he made any kind of choice to be retired.

Heck, did Jimmy Key ever officially retire? One year he was with the O's, the next ... gone. True, this was a while ago ...

heres the list I can think of

    Tom Glavine
    Pedro Martinez*
    John Smoltz*
    Frank Thomas
    Bernie Williams
    Nomar Garciapara*
    Johnny Damon*
Barry Bonds (funny too cause he's like 70 hits away from 3,000)
    Jim Edmonds

    * = played in 2009 but not on a team yet with 19 days til pitchers and catchers
The real reason why the Yankees keep winning is cause the other team can't stop staring at the damn pinstripes
