It was funny when they mentioned that Johnny Weir and Tanith Belbin are roommates. The reason that happened is that one of them would have had to room with Evan Lysecek. It would be a problem since he is Johnny's rival and Tanith's ex.

Someone made a comment like "No matter how many pink tassels he wears, he is the envy of every man in America because he's rooming with Tanith Belbin."

Plushenko is arrogant, but you have to be to some degree. He simply wants to destroy the competition. He never makes mistakes and exudes confidence. Evan will have to be at the top of his game again.

The skater I enjoyed watching the most last night was Stephan Lambiel (sp?) from Switzerland. He missed a couple of jumps, but his spins were gorgeous.

They mentioned that all the other competitors watch him when he practices, and that he is "a skater's skater."

His spinning was incredible. At one point toward the end, he was spinning so fast that it looked like his head disappeared.

It's far more difficult than it looks. They add a substance to the ice's surface to make it even more slippery. The push-off to get the stone moving is far, far more difficult than it appears. The first couple times you try it, you're lucky to get the thing moving more than 20-30 feet.

    Fun stuff.

The way I see it, figure skating is the Winter Olympics version of gymnastics. Just trying to just stay on my feet while ice skating makes me appreciate the skill and athleticism of these skaters, regardless of the image they project.

On a different note, I can't stand the new scoring system in the sport. I liked the old system better because at least it was comprehensible to the average
viewer and didn't camouflage extreme bias in the judging.

It hasn't been good for both United States curling teams. They need a string of wins to get back in.

Hopefully, they can do it, but it's not looking rosy right now.

What completely amazes me is how the male pair skaters lift up their partner high over their head, hold her up there, let go with one hand, and continue to skate forward AND turn.

I've curled a few times, and it is the hardest sport I've ever tried. I found that I either threw it 20 feet (as you said), or put a bit more on it and fired it straight through the house. Throwing the stone right on the button, as all these curlers can do, is an incredible feat in itself.

Riesch from Germany. She's the only other skier to win a downhill race this season other then Vonn. She's like 5-6 spots away from going.

Almost a full second between 2nd and 3rd place. The two Americans are really the only ones that have nailed their runs so far.

Apparently Vonn spends Christmas at her house every year. I'd find it hard pressed to be friends with my main rival in an individual sport like this.....but more power to them if they can do it.

Thanks...I can't watch at work so I'm following the results on-line (the website is awesome). There are a lot of skiiers so I wanted to see who I had to watch with concern.

So if Riesch doesn't beat her then it's a pretty good bet that she'll take gold?

    Thank god for the internet.

And from what I know, if she can get by Riesch still in 1st....she's home free barring a big surprise run from an unknown. And Riesch is about to take her run right now.

Oh no..no no no. That is cruel. That was a medal run and down she went.

The margin for error in any event in the Winter Olympics is finer than any sport in the world. These athletes are inches from medals and flame out every time the race.

Ouch...tough break for the Swede. She was in silver medal position.
